how is that ? He didnt even paint the bare metal and it will rust. Looks like a botch job to me. A pair of scissors and a knife as tools. I'd stay clear of any advice from this guy. Especially electrics

The orange wire is the mains feed to the unit . It goes to the Input plug on the outside of the van , the plug where the campsite wire goes into. See thumb nail photo

Yes the earth would go to the earth bar at the bottom if it has one ...i should have wired the earth in . Sorry to mislead you ,i should have wired it in.

Hey fella appreciate the video. I have a question regarding the RCD: I see yours came with a 63amp version. Should there be a surge from your 240v power source would that RCD NOT trip unless the current reached 63amps? In which case your input power cord would need to be able to handle 63amps? I have a 32amp and am thinking to switch it out to a 16amp RCD or RCBO for this reason...

RCDs don't protect against overcurrent. It's fine to use this RCD in this situation. My caravan came fitted from swift with a a 40 amp RCD. The current rating on the RCD is how much it can safely carry/switch not where it would break. There should be overcurrent protection in the supply. If it's a campsite bollard, it'll probably be an MCB or an RCBO. If it's plugged into a domestic supply via a BS1363 plug and suitable adapter, the fuse in the plug will protect against overcurrent.

You haven't fitted an earth bonding wire between the consumer unit and the vehicle chassis. It should be 6mm square plus and bolted to a secure part of the chassis or bodywork, to earth the vehicle when connected to the power. With regard to the loose input cable, glands are readily available to secure and protect the cable.

Yes you can earth to the chassis if you want . no harm in doing it . the campsites electric units are earthed so i didnt bother.

If I want to run a 240v wire and then split it can I use one of then 30amp circle junction boxes and will it be safe.

Put the mains cable through a compression gland big enough to take the cable in that hole and the mcb clips in without taking the din rail off

.. mine had two because the earth was not needed .. your green wire (THE 3RD ONE ) goes on the earth bar at the bottom the the unit green / greenyellow

I am doing a electric hook up in my race truck so I have done the hook bit but what do I wire the cable to in the consumer unit the 6 amp or the 16 amp then I need to wire in a battery charger do I use an extension cable or can I wire it into a fuse in the consumer as its only to charge a car battery that is wired up to my winch in my garage in my race truck hope you can help as I dont want to wire it all wrong as this is all new to me.

use the 16 amps for your plug sockets and . yes you can wire the batt charger direct but check the size of the fuse on the plug and go the same size trip switch if possable

On the final install the plugs have earth wires. This was a drill will a plastic case and didn't have a earth anyway., but the final install has earth wired in. The earth should be wired to the earth bar in the consumer unit.
