I love this video and am so happy I found this channel! It is so refreshing to see someone who is not arguing for gutting everything and starting over. I am a semi-retired real estate photographer and stager. Over the years, I worked with so many clients who were selling dated homes and didn't want to pour a bunch of money into updates just to be competitive and who needed just this sort of practical advice and inspiration. Eventually I wound up adding color consulting to my resume for that exact reason. Not everyone has the budget to gut a kitchen whether selling or just moving in or even if it is their forever home that they want to refresh, but nearly everyone is will to paint. The change that the right color can bring to a space is nothing short of miraculous.

@NYCBrat9 ай бұрын
Great video! These are very impressive, low-cost transformations! While timeless, classic white subway tile has really had its moment and is now so over played most designers agree we need a break from it. For a few dollars more you can find wavy, textured tile at the big box stores, as well as Zellige if you choose to splurge a bit. As you said there’s not much sq footage needed, so why not elevate as you update? For me gorgeous walnut countertops have always looked rich and luxurious and replicating that look with walnut stained, budget-friendly butcher block is a good option for many. It won’t be ideal for every kitchen refresh but it’s neutral enough to work with most palettes and can look beautiful if done well. I would add that replacing your outdated faucet with a beautiful statement faucet can level up the style of your kitchen instantly. Replacing the sink is a worthwhile companion project as well, nothing pricey, just new. The faucet is where you should “invest.” OTR microwave hood combos look dated and basic so if possible replace with a smaller model to fit on a shelf or tuck inside a pantry. If you’re not using it for more than reheating or making popcorn, you’ll be much happier with a proper hood. It will totally transform the space, and with so many options available, investing here is a good idea. Finally, if upgrading just one appliance is within your budget, it should be to your replace your freestanding range with a SLIDE-IN MODEL. Trust me on this one. ***BONUS TIP: Over that slide-in range you can add a wall-mounted potfiller faucet for about $200 …but the trick to save the exorbitant cost of re-routing pipes and plumber fees is to have it for decorative purposes only. No one ever needs to know it’s “non-working!” I have been a design industry professional since 1985 and these are some of the ideas I currently incorporate into client projects when the budget is a driving factor. I hope this is helpful to some of your viewers. Good luck to all.

You said it ..high-dollar designers may need a break from white subway tile, many homeowners do not. Seems you are out of touch with the majority of people wanting a new kitchen. You stating .."for a few dollars more..." shows you are a spender, not a saver. Go ahead and design (spend) for people who have $200 for decorative "looks" trying to impress others with things that don't even function. Bwahaha. How silly. Normal homeowners don't simply want to impress other with things, they need for them to function. I suppose sellers out there are fortunate there are so many homeowners that will spend, spend, spend so that "designers" can buy, buy, buy. This video is SENSIBLE and "CENTSIBLE." The fact she discusses tile prices is impressive. I love installing tile, and white 2x8 or 6x8 is both affordable and lovely in kitchens and bathrooms as it will be timeless--it can be used for decades with any color or trend that pops up. Timelessness is a major factor to those not wanting to throw their hard-earned money at ever-changing trends.

I had these about 20 years ago in another home. At the time cherry wood was the rage. Now it’s walnut. Minwax has a product called Polyshades. It is a varnish with tint, I believe. No sanding needed. I just put a coat on and voila, cherry cabinets. The only problem spot was on the wood-trimmed counters near the sink but I just occasionally touched it up. It’s a great solution for people who do not prefer painted wood (typically men😊).
@BeckySmyth-gp4ik2 күн бұрын

Forgive me if there is some KZbin reason I don't know about which limits the number of seconds you can show someone else's picture. But if there is no prohibiting reason, could you please show us the picture you are talking about WHILE you are talking about it? NOT everyone wants a white kitchen - it's hard to keep. Or subway tiles - there's so many tiles to choose from even if you make the back splash behind the cooker a feature or if use a colour tile to match / compliment the paint on the cabinets / islands / furniture etc. Dark colours are nice in BIG kitchens that GET PLENTY of LIGHT. If it's a small kitchen it's nice to see just the bottom cabinets painted - all over is O.T.T. Liked the use of brass, wood, lights - they really complimented the neutral countertop.

Ugh! White subway tile reminds me of… subways! And turnpike restrooms & everything common & dirty. There are some good ideas here but not white subway tiles!

Bight white works with anything. The moody colors makes the granite look worse to me.

....What was disappointing was NO " Before photos " OF THE " DATED KITCHENS ". ... Would have been great to actually SEE the " Before " pictures. ...Without having to " click on a Link. " This could have been a " 2 Part Video " , in order to actually s h o w the " Before Photos ". $1 000 - 1500 is indeed a Budget Re- do... which is mire relatable to most people, rather than a 15 000 $ Budget. ... most kitchen small Renovation is around 15,000-20,000.

$1000 for painting a kitchen may about cover the paint cost, but unless you DIY, it is no longer a low-budget project.

I don't like gray and browns together. I don't think they go together.

I am redoing my office. I am having built-in cabinets. I’m wondering if my cabinets and wall color should be the same. I’m thinking a Moody green. The rest of my house is very neutral, creams browns, etc. I could do my office with the same look, but I was just thinking going more moody.. so would you paint the cabinet and the walls the same color and if so, what color suggestion do you have for Green?

Oh yeah, go all in! I just did the same thing in my office. Built ins are Ben Moore Britannia Blue and so are the walls. I love it. I'm going to do a video on greens I like soon, but in terms of a few I really like off the top of my head, try SW Evergreen Fog, SW Pewter Green, SW Ripe Olive and BM Caldwell Green.

Farrow & Ball have a lovely array of green paints, too! I especially like their Cooking Apple Green & their Breakfast Room Green. I am particularly enamored of their Pale Powder, because it's soft mutability (depending on the light in the space) seems to subtly shift from green to grey to blue.

Well, you lost me. Not everybody wants a white kitchen. I have granite countertops that replaced plain ones because the granite I chose Totally melted with my Hickory handmade cabinetry, it picked up the towns and some of the goals as well as the blacksmith handles I had created. I think “everybody wants a white kitchen” is dated and I thought you were updating us.

IMHO painted cabinets are a cheaper alternative to solid wood cabinetry with a nice wood grain and mellow tone. My guess is we’ll see a shift in a few years and painted cabinets will be “dated”. Makes no sense to renovate a kitchen every few years to keep current with the trend. Waste of money.
