Ok film. But Purple Rain is still the best and most successful rock/pop star movie of all time. Besides ending the year as the 10th highest grossing film of the year and the biggest selling soundtrack of the year. A movie that cost 7 million to make and made around 85 million at the box office. More successful than 8 mile, the Beatles movies etc.

I think my favorite part of this movie is the end, where Eminem's character achieves this great personal accomplishment, makes it through a pivital moment in his life, feeling victorious and gratified, and then he just... leaves and goes to work. Because the bills are still due and he's not rich yet. Life didn't just stop because he won. It feels real.

I was in high school when this came out. Either a freshman or sophomore. We snuck in to see this. It was playing in 5 different theaters at this 1 movie theater & it was completely sold out. There was not one seat. I was sitting on the steps of the theater watching this. It was such an experience. Will never forget that.

Fun thing to note: while the raps in this movie are not all written by Eminem (which some people say that that's the case, due to basically just urban legend at this point), what is confirmed is that Eminem used real life information to form the last rap about Papa Doc. He did change the locations and such but Anthony Mackie did really go to a private school and does really have parents that are in a good marriage. Mackie stated this in an interview a few years back, it's on KZbin ^^

This movie has huge meaning to me. I saw it in theaters originally cuz I was a huge Em fan as a teen. Then during high school I remember we didn't have cable at home to save money so I watched so many DVDs so this movie was on repeat a lot where I remember most of the rap battles word for word. The behind the scenes for extras is so fun. I wish there was more movies like this. Em doesn't nearly get enough credit for this considering he is a rapper first. I am glad he won the Oscar for Lose Yourself though. Well deserved

This is loosely based off of his story. B.Rabbit and Future mirror Eminem and Proof. Proof actually DJ'd for a radio station in Detroit and was one of the first people to get Eminem's music on the radio. They would play songs off his debut album "Infinite", which is an album every Eminem fan should listen to if they haven't because it's fantastic. But just like Future hooks up B.Rabbit with gigs, Proof hooked Eminem up with radio play when no one else would. Even scenes like when B.Rabbit and Future are working on the car spitting a random funny freestyle, that's a mirror image of Eminem and Proof freestyling and having fun with each other back in the day which there's a few videos of on KZbin.

My ex fiance lives near 8 mile and knew Marshall from parties, he took me to his house were he grew up definitely not a trailer park just a typical home, there's roads off the interstate in Detroit, 8 mile, 9 mile, 10 mile etc I've been in this area many times, most is filmed in downtown in very rough areas
