smartmouth4444 I remember hearing that somewhere. Something like sending assassins out on missions in the Assassin's Creed games, companion missions in SWTOR, or duty officer missions in STO. It's a nice feature to have. What I don't like about the feature is that sometimes it ends up making those characters "2D". In my experience, they tend to become "nobody" with a timer (for whatever menial task given to them). I hope not though. As a huge fan of DAO (and not DA2), it's so important to me that they make the characters have meaningful impact on my campaign against the Fade xD.

So does the combat play more akin to the first Dragon Age or the second one? To be honest, I actually like the second Dragon Age's combat because it was more like a hack-'n-slash, but I honestly can't tell if Inquisition is using MMO style combat where your character is doing a series of attacks after one button press, or DA2 style combat where YOU are controlling the attack sequence.
@War62410 жыл бұрын
You can play it like DA2, like more of an action rpg, if you want. Attacks don't queue up like an MMO. You can still play with the pause and play tactics from the original DA, if you want.

I never understood the RPG loot system. You switch gear almost every hour. And even weapons to different weapon types. It is like Aragorn dropping his sword in favor of a mace that does +1 damage. A fighter, who uses *swords* will not change to *maces* unless the situation requires it. Not to mention, that every weapon/armor fits your hero perfectly, no matter the race/size/gender of its previous owner. It is hard to imagine qunari males wearing armor that fits elf chicks perfectly. Even harder the other way around. I would prefer a mechanic where you bring the loot back to base to reforge it into the weapon of your style. You just found *Mace of Fire* but you'd prefer a sword? Reforge it to *Sword of Fire*. You just found *Corset of Fire Resistance* but you are a male? Reforge it to *Tunic of Fire Resistance*. Problem solved, the character is more realistic and you can immerse in the story more easily. Even if they put a slight downgrade on the reforged items it would still worth it.
@WillJohnson13810 жыл бұрын
I, like most of RPG gamers, don't change to something that does +1 damage. If it was +25 or say more, then maybe. Most of the people who do that are people that don't Pole Play in a RPG.
@bindair_dundat10 жыл бұрын
Will Johnson A real warrior would only switch weapons if the new one is given to him by a King/Queen, a love interest or a legendary weaponsmith/warrior. And they probably wouldn't change to a different weapon style, not even in these cases. It is fine as long as you play as the "farmboy" who starts with *wooden sticks*, but eventually in every game you will gain status, recongition and equipment halfway through and this is when you become a "warrior". And in most games, you keep switching gear long after that point. I still support the idea I mentioned before. You have *sword* and you find *mace of fire* with +5 fire damage. You either replace your weapon, which is the less immersive way, or you reforge the new weapon into your *sword* or a rune that you can add to your *sword* to get *sword of fire* with +3 or +4 fire damage. Those who wish to roleplay, would take that minus fire damage in favour of immersion. It may have been done before in games, but definitely not often.

Still no PC gameplay. Worrisome. Until the confirmation that horrible skyrim-ish menu UI, dodge-rolling/button-mashing and pause-only isometric camera are console-only(as in you can play the game in similar way as Origins on pc), this is still no-buy. Still sad for derivative art style and no modding and the writing most likely will be incredibly meh, if bioware's last few titles are to go by, but oh well.
@wintermoons121510 жыл бұрын
Well you are a very pessimistic person. In any case every demo we've seen has been on the PC with an Xbox controller because the controller is easier for doing live demos. But there will be a separate keyboard/mouse interface.
@FeuerFremder10 жыл бұрын
wintermoons1215 I hope that involves different UI. One of biggest problems with Skyrim that made it unplayable was the "Scrolling" interface EVERYWHERE(look at the attribute allocation "scroll list" in the video), which makes no sense on PC. But at least with Skyrim you could mod it out - you won't be able with this. So yes its quite a hindrance.
@johnfaucher258210 жыл бұрын
If you mean that you can only use the isometric camera while paused then you're wrong, the latest combat trailer showed a lot of combat in isometric view that wasn't paused. As for button mashing I'm not sure what you mean since there are over 200 spells and abilities. I guess you could mash those 200 buttons lol. The writing I guess is personal preference. I love the writing in dragon age. There are tons of political/racial conflicts with different types of bad guys. There are some all out evil characters but also some enemies that could be considered "good guys" if you look at their point of view like Loghain.
@FeuerFremder10 жыл бұрын
john faucher I mean the forced "push button for something awesome to happen" combat nonsense. Hopefully it is playable with mouse like the previous games, without the twitch-combat. AS for writing, no matter the topics, DA2 and ME3 handled it in very juvenile ways(Ex: Ander's "Terrorism", not to mention horrible almost offensive misrepresentation of sexuality). I do not expect anything better in this this. I just hope its more bearable than DA2 writing where unless you played Snarky Hawke(who was sufficiently aware of being a character in some sort of bad fanfic, making quips about stuff and questioning reality), you would go insane.
@FeuerFremder10 жыл бұрын
john faucher I am sorry? How the fuck are you doing that shitty logical leap? I am bisexual myself and I am offended that Bioware has turned sexualities into stereotypes. THEY CAN'T write them correctly and the result is offensive horrendous mess. We do not need need stereotypes whose only defining characteristic is their sexuality, we need EQUAL very well fleshed out characters who are capable to stand on their own BEYOND that. . Leliana was a step in right direction, Anders and the guy in ME3 - took away that progress. Write character who happens to be gay/bi/asexual/pansexual. DO NOT write character AROUND it as if they are no longer PEOPLE. Look at Gone Home for an example of WELL WRITTEN LGBT characters who are established as characters BEYOND their sexual preference. Its like bragging about adding poc character into your work and then giving them an "afro" and a gangsta personality.

+travis sprague I did, when it first came out. I loved Dragon Age Origins, and even Dragon Age 2. So I was very exited to pick this up when it was released, but... there was just something off. I didn't enjoy the combat as much as I did in either of the previous games, the story failed to grip me as Origins had done so many years before, and my favourite class, The Warrior felt kinda "meh" I got as far as to Skyhold, and I got my speciailzation (Reaver) But even that failed to save me from my lack of enthusiasm. So I simply stopped playing, my GF continued though, and she really liked it, she is as big a fan of the 2 previous games as I am, and she has continued to play this game and all the DLC content, and she has loved it and kept raving about it. So, after the last DLC was released, I decided that I should give this game another go (I started playing again little over a week ago) And now I'm 80 hours in and loving every second of it, and I have a lot of the main story plus a lot of side areas left to go through. I don't know what changed for me, maybe it was that I started over and am now playing a Artificer Bow and Arrow Rogue instead, but even though I like this class a lot better, it can't be the only reason. All I know is I stopped playing this game almost a year ago, and gave it up as a lost cause, but upon reinstalling it last week, it has me hooked, and I already bought and installed all the DLC's, because I want more!

I was hoping this would be more like Skyrim. Looks like an upscale Diablo.(some may like that but, not me) Swinging a sword shouldn't cause an earthquake every few hits. Seems like a lot of fluff.

Skyrim was (well, still is) fun at times. My favorite part is when you're an archer going stealth, and firing arrows at an unsuspecting bandit. The arrow proceeds to impale the poor man's forehead or torso, and that is the moment when he decides it's probably time to stand up from his chair and loudly ask "Is anyone there?!" because his head feels a little heavier than usual. I'm certain that we won't have that sort of comedy in Inquisition coming from enemies, because there's A.I. in Inquisition (well at least in DA2 enemies did spawn out of thin air, that was quite something).

shadow of mordor is a bit dark. the landscape is most of the time somewhat ugly plus the gameplay is quite linear. same thing to do most of the time. whereas dragon age has a witcher 3 touch and is perhaps a lot more playable. use of magic and stuff like that. but shadow of mordor is more critically acclaimed.

I always loved the art and lore of Dragon Age but the game was almost unplayable gameplay-wise. Every battle draged on too much IMO and the game would get really boring thanks to that. It looks a tad faster now, but I don't know if it would be worth the buy for me.

@ivanlagrossemoule10 жыл бұрын
Because most people only know Skyrim as RPG reference. But I agree, the game has to be worth it on its own, if other games are better or not isn't really relevant. Though honestly, I'm quite sure the threat of The Witcher 3 sort of motivated them to do a better job than on DA2.

The statue in the circle of magi, in DA:O and even Jowan, both seems to foreshadow something big. "The sun goes down but here comes the dawn" sound waaaaay to much like the song "the dawn will come" the first sentence most particularly.

DAI needs to be a hit for Bioware, for whatever is left of it. DA2 was very disappointing. Reused maps, poor writing and (for PC) awkward combat. ME3 had the huge PR fallout that got so bad the 2 founders of Bioware left the company. SWTOR's sub numbers got so bad it had to convert to f2p to sustain itself. So, to use a baseball analogy, they need a Grand Slam with this game. If this game fails, then Bioware will pretty much be done. A once great company ruined by EA (possibly).
@CreativeUsernameEh10 жыл бұрын
Poor writing and awkward combat? No, use your words properly. The combat was too fast and flashy, the endless waves of minions was annoying. Even so, most people enjoyed the increased action/responsiveness of combat, compared to DA:O. It wasn't "awkward" at all. Awkward would be pressing X and waiting 5 seconds for your character to shuffle into position. DA2 was nearly instant and very snappy. The poor writing is your subjective opinion, and I'd like to know why. I really liked all the acts, with the exception of the somewhat tedious act 1. At least it set up quests in the later acts (like the Serial Killer)
@drownoble10 жыл бұрын
CreativeUsernameEh I did use my words properly. On PC the combat was awkward, no tab targeting. So when a mob dies I'd have to pause, click the next target and unpause. This broke up the flow of combat. I heard combat was better on console, but I never played it on one.
@drownoble10 жыл бұрын
CreativeUsernameEh Oh and as for the poor writing. Merrill ' s story went no where. She's trying to rebuild the mirror that Morrigan used in the DAO DLC. Then at the end says "sorry can't get it to work my bad" and that's it. Numerous characters from DAO make an appearance, but their pointless to the story. I never met Isabela. Not once. You'd think I would of at least been directed to go meet her if I wanted. Go from a large game in DAO that spans an entire country, with many large different environments, to kirkwall. A dull uninspiring city that I never grew to care about. Finally there were too many choices taken away from me. Pick a mage at creation? You just got your sister killed and there's nothing you can do. It's like Bioware wanted the story a specific way and you were just along for the ride. This is why DA2 got lower ratings from critics too.
@CreativeUsernameEh10 жыл бұрын
drownoble Uh, Bioware stories tend to go off in different direcitons so maybe you didn't get the same ending: Merrill eventually learned after slaughtering her clan and watching Marethari sacrifice herself she WAS wrong and the mirror was evil. Its a lot of character development, and a big change for her. So she stopped working on the mirror, after the Pride Demon came through. You call that "going nowhere"? The cameos were kind of lame, they should have had real impacts rather than "you get this quest now" or "hey remember this dude?" -- I agree. it seemed rushed. If you didn't meet Isabela, you avoided her. She was constantly at the hanged man, they even play a cut scene the first time she is present; you avoided her on purpose. Hey, I'm not arguing that. DA2 was rushed and they cut corner with the environments. We know.
@drownoble10 жыл бұрын
CreativeUsernameEh I didn't "avoid" Isabella at all, I checked locations many times as I played through. You would think if she was essential for the qunari storyline I would of been directed to her somehow. Yet I did that storyline and she was never mentioned. Merrill just "stopping" was going nowhere. After standing by her side she just "gave up", it was rather anti-climactic. As far as a Bioware game DA2 seem to have less branches. Many things were pre-scripted regardless of what I was doing. Not to the extreme of the ME3 ending but still was disappointing.

Man, this game is going to be so awesome. Just finished all of the content on Origins: Next is DAII, I want to have played it all before Inquisition comes out. BioWare is by far one of my favourite game developers, second only to Naughty Dog, who are genius at developing games. But I love how BioWare blends story with customization and character choices, DA and Mass Effect are legendary franchises in my book. If you haven't finished Origins and all DLC's, again PS: If a recreation of my original grey warden returns with Morrigan as part of the story in Inquisition, that would be the coolest thing ever in terms of an RPG story.

For those who plan on playing the previous games before this, don't forget using mods. They make the games even better, Check the Nexus. My ideas: Dragon Age Origins: *SilveriteFix* - this fixes a common bug where you lose some equipment. *Hide Helmet/Armor* - it is so annoying to hide your companions' faces with helmets. Especially cloth and leather wearers, as those helmets look dumb. *Extra Dog Slot* - this allows you to take your dog with any other 2 companions all the time. Is it OP? Slightly. Is it fun? Till the very end. *Qunari update* - this makes qunari look like in DA2. They kind of changed their appearance between the two games, and this simply fixes that. *LockBash* - allows you to bash locks if you don't have a thief in the party. We ain't got no time to "come back later" for it. We want it now. You can even set a % of destroying stuff inside. But 0% is the best. *Gift Guide* - lets you know which gifts should be given to which companions. Nobody wants to google them or miss out dialogues. *More Hairstyles* - just some cosmetics. *Bigger Shale* - this golem companion was shrunk due to gameplay reasons. I don't care what others say, a golem should be bigger than Leliana. Dragon Age 2: *All Chests Unlocked* - similar to LockBash, but this is as far as DA2 modders got. *No More Bloody Teeth* - does what it seems to. *Big Bad Fenris* - makes a typical anime character into a warrior more fitting to a Dragon Age game. I prefered the Dark one. *Tougher Dog* - makes Dog tougher. Here he is already a free companion. Something to change Aveline. There are several mods. The original Aveline looks like He-Man. She is not supposed to be stunning, but at least she should look like a female.

Yeah there are over 200 skills/spells, BUT YOU CAN ONLY USE 4 OF THEM AT THE TIME, BECAUSE YOU ONLY HAVE 4 SLOTS IN YOUR FREEKING SKILLBAR. Sooo brainless.... seriously....
@kharjo433110 жыл бұрын
You can use 8 and a lot of those skills are passive or upgraded versions of simpler skills. You'll be fine.
@prygler10 жыл бұрын
Juvei Styles Yes you got like 4 active skills and 4 passive skills in a 2x skillbar system. I know about it dude. But passive skills are PASSIVE, and therefore you DONT ACTIVELY USE THEM. So they are not really something that contributes to the combat intensity and complexity. They are just buffs that are there. And having only 4 active skills to use in combat is for 11 year kids, who cant comprehend any more than dealing with 4 skills at the time in combat. In previous Dragon Age games you could have lots of skills in the skillbar. Now it is all simplified down to 4 active skills and 4 passive skills. Who cares if there is over 200 different skills/spells... They could make a 1000 different skills/spells, but you can only use 4 active (ye ye and 4 passives) at the time. Do you run around checking hundreds of skills/spells in when you can only use 4 actively? No, you choose 4 and then stick with them untill you get bored or challenged enough to change something in the 4 skills/spells. Why? Because of default bias and status quo bias, which is a psychological bias in humans, where you have strong psychological tendency to use whatever you are already using, unless something motivates you to change it. This is not fun! This is not a good thing to have in a game! Its like when Total War decided that "Oh the building system in Rome 2 need to be simplified down to 4 to 6 building slots in each town and like 20 different buildings, so they wont get confused and so the game wont be too complicated for people". Previously Total War games had a fine building system, with lots of options and limited resources. Now Total War Rome 2 is made with at simplified shitty building system, which makes the game booooring! I know because ive played and many says Rome 2 is boring.

Well look at the gameplay footage. They never do pause the game and use a different skill/spell then they have in their skillbar. So it seems you cant on that data. But ultimatively i dont know. However, you should always use your skill from your skillbar, that is what the skillbar is for in the first place....

Why stop? Witcher 3 and DA3 compete directly. They both promise open-ended world and lots of gameplay hours. But W3 is based off a really good setting (if you didn't read the books, it's not my fault) and visually looks better (IMO, of course).
@gsimon12310 жыл бұрын
Rastrelly True. But you can't pick your character can you? You can't pick your race can you? You can't play as any member of your party can you? Oh and add to the fact that Bioware always presents more dialog options and story paths... it is also a very easy case to argue that Bioware consistently gets superior voice actors... plenty of reasons to play this instead of Witcher. It is all preference. WHY NOT PLAY BOTH? Besides the latest trailer from Gamescon for DAI was more impressive to me than anything Witcher 3 has presented. And I don't give a shit about the books. I want to sit down and play a game that entertains me without the need to read novels. Besides, Dragon Age has books too lol
@Rastrelly10 жыл бұрын
I won't play DA:I in any case: after ME3 I'm boycotting BioWare. Still, I preferred Witcher setting to Dragon Age's one. Sapkowsky managed to create a great pattern of factions and countries, a wonderful backdrop and awesome characters. Can't wait to see Ziri and Yennifer. And don't you fucking dare to compare The Witcher novels to that soulless crap released for DA. Do you even aware that Witcher games are based on book series that is actually more interesting then Game of Thrones cycle? Also, I don't care how you spend your time. I hope buying all DLCs to DA:I will be fun. As for WHY NOT PLAY BOTH: maybe in your country 60 bucks is a miserable sum, but I live in fucking Ukraine.
@gsimon12310 жыл бұрын
Rastrelly I don't care about your financial problems. And you claim that it is heathenish to insinuate comparing video game novels but yet you make the wild uneducated boast that the Witcher books are on par with Game of Thrones? Do you mean a Song of Ice and Fire? In which case you are still silly. ASOIAF is what freaking inspired generic stuff like Witcher. The Witcher is nothing remarkable from a storytelling perspective. It is just darker in tone than Dragon Age which is simply what you prefer - not better. It is nowhere near the same league as Martin's book series you stock-fish. That tells me everything I need to know about you - you don't know the difference between an above average book series and one of the best ever written since Tolkien. So stop typing useless comments on here since you clearly don't care about Bioware anymore. The amount I care about your dislike for Bioware is even less than my sympathy for you being a poor bastard that can't afford two video games. Get a job and a better taste in storytelling and stop to trying to ruin things for other people just because you can't enjoy them.
