This is completely true I hate just hating on the game but people forget so fast what this game could have been. But the game was too focused on being mainstream they diluted all the rpg aspects of the game and tried to make it mass effect.

Fun fact: Preston WAS meant to be the general, in some concept art it states "Leader of the Minutemen" which probably wasn't implemented because they rushed the whole Minutemen questline and characters Adding onto that, the same concept art design for Preston was used on the "When Freedom Calls" and "With Our Powers Combined" quest icons, it's likely that they had more plans for the Minutemen or that they just were too lazy to implement a hood

16:50 lets not forget hancock, a ghoul and of course X6-88... AN INSTITUTE COURSER (who, might i add, proudly mentions this fact in certain dialogue, such as when you are tasked with killing danse) also the railroad is hostile to X6, so they thought of it plus danse can enter the railroad hq even during the whole "brotherhood are enemies" speech

Funny thing about Nick Valentine being an essential character and the whole access to far harbor is you can access far harbor before ever meeting Nick or even knowing he exists. All you have to do is travel to the Nakano residence and talk to them

I love this whole series you're making for fallout 4. I would love to see this channel talk about other games as well and the things wrong with them. I will watch this channel regardless of what you do with it but the way you talk about the problems with fallout 4 is very captivating and I would love to see that same energy with other games.

It's funny how the game devs didn't bother turning the lights off in the run-down buildings even though they could've utilized pip-boy's light source (since it's really never used in moment to moment gameplay scenarios) or, if you were wearing a power armor suit, you could use its bright head lamp (which I did use on several occasions but, it's was like 6 or 8 times total). But no, they had to go the safe route.

@HenryTan-pj2oi yeah cause its not like 200 years of water damage would break any electronics or cause something as temperamental as a fusion battery to stop working
@stubenhockershr1161

11:20 imagine using the fusion cores to power up old buildings to get access to Terminals, Safes, Protectrons and other stuff while also luring enemys to the now lit building, altering enemy spawns and ai behaviour. Would be a nice risk vs reward balance. The super duper market in Lexington spawns many Ghouls when you enter the storage area which ambush you as you already cleared the market area, so the technical question has already been answered. The storage area even has a powered up generator with a fusion core inside.

I refuse to rescue kidnapped settlers, I gave you armour, I spent ages setting up a ring of rocket turrets around the settlement, provided food, water, beds, merchant stands, exercise equipment and a soda fountain and all of you are heavily armed and wearing combat armour. At this point if they are still getting taken that's on them.

I worked around the kidnapped settlers problem by placing them as guards. P.S: I don't know why so many people didn't figure this simple "set settler to guard duty" as a solution to an already bad and poorly written radiant kidnapping problem.

I found the same bug while playing it as a kid. I remember that the brotherhood mission to go to Prydwen was activated anyway and if you followed it it makes you enter a vertibird that went on forever even leaving the map. Luckily I had already finished the game so I knew it was a bug.

Dunno if you've covered this yet, but. Laser weapons don't really have recoil due to the weapons projecting light as opposed to firing conventional projectiles. Yet they all have as much recoil as any .308 rifle which makes very little sense considering in FO3 and NV the lasers fired from laser weapons doesn't move physics objects they hit like fired bullets do (if my memory serves correctly that is). Point is, it's an oversight and a very odd one.

NPCs in Oblivion sounded so fake, I was convinced it was a computer-generated text-to-speech voice I'm hearing. Ever since, I was looking forward to the next Bethesda sandbox featuring such a thing, so modders could make every NPC read any custom dialogue they want. Nowadays these voices sound natural enough to sound less robotic than Linda Kenyon and co. did in Oblivion...

The whole “jet is post-war” lore debacle is completely false. Fallout 2 absolutely never establishes that jet was created post-war, rather the kid who creates it is actually copying a pre-war recipe, and is creating a new drug called jet-fuel. Jet itself was around pre-war.

I actually thought removing weapon degradation was a good thing. I've always found that particular mechanic to be tedious, annoying and immersion breaking in any game that has it.
@spikeshartell4675
@spikeshartell4675 2 жыл бұрын
@Henry Tan I could see having it at higher difficulty levels for the people that want it, or an option to turn it on but to just have it in a game with no option to turn it on or off even seems annoying. Especially when you're talking about a RPG/shooter Hell even in Breath of the wild it was super annoying and was really the only real flaw in that game. The option to turn it off would have been nice.
@peppermillers8361

I never found the degradation system that bad, since made you think about the condition of your weapon, and had you use uniques sparingly when you could. System Shock 2 had a much harsher degradation system until you figure out how to handle it.
@spikeshartell4675
@spikeshartell4675 Жыл бұрын
@@peppermillers8361 Thing is weapons don't really work like that in real life and certainly they don't degrade at the rate the do in video games. Like if I go out and fire 500 rounds out of a gun it's not suddenly going to be less deadly to an opponent. It would be one thing if this mechanic wasn't incorporated into games where the enemies are bullet sponges but from what I can tell that's how Fallout enemies work. The one game that came the closest to getting this mechanic right I'd say was RDR2 as the weapons don't just break but they do lose performance if you don't clean them,(and in that sense the mechanic actually makes a bit more sense).
@aralornwolf3140
@aralornwolf3140 Жыл бұрын
@@spikeshartell4675, It makes sense, for RDR2... black powder is pretty corrosive. It's manufacturing meant that it didn't "burn" cleanly... which slowly builds up in your weapon as you use it. Even then, you want to clean your gun because small foreign objects could damage parts making it not work, or worse, cause the ball/bullet to get caught in the barrel causing it to explode, in your face. Part wear out... but not fast. Melee weapons on the other hand, especially those with blades and spikes, they need constant tending, as they can bend, blunt, or even break, rendering the weapon ineffective. So... Guns, should require "down time" to maintain, and to replace worn out parts before the weapon breaks (or ceases to function). Thus, depending on the gun, they would need "maintenance" every 100 to 1,000 rounds with a "gun kit". If maintenance isn't performed there is a non-zero chance of complete gun failure (breakage) after that point. The percentage increasing to 1% to 5% (depending on the gun) after 500 to 5,000 rounds. Melee weapons should require "down time" to constantly keep them in perfect form, failure to do that will result in less damage, or even the weapon breaking, beyond repair. Thus, depending on the melee weapon, they would need "maintenance" every 50 to 250 "attacks", to sharpen, to straiten the weapon, etc, with a "weapon kit". If maintenance isn't performed, there is a non-zero chance of a weapon failure (from breaking completely to doing no more damage than your first could) after that point. The percentage increasing to 1% to 5% (depending on the weapon) after 150 to 750 "attacks". Weapon and gun kits should be cheap and easy to acquire. _Everyone_ who needs weapons for their job has a kit, or there is an armourer who can do the needed maintenance. The same thing applies to armour... although, armour will end up being destroyed, eventually. It's getting hit with bullets, blades, energy weapons, not to mention Death Claw claws and teeth...
@lartza_85
@lartza_85 10 ай бұрын
@HenryTan-pj2oi Yeah it was way too fast, with weapon condition at 100% you can only shoot 500 bullets before it breaks. And lets not forget that able to repair weapon at 100% condition you did need repair skill 100. While something like ak on real life is able to shoot between 15-30k rounds before need swapping parts.

Abaout voiced protagonist, i admit i like that protagonist is voiced, would silence protagonist mean that they would spent more time to add new quests or other voiced npc:s i highly doubt that. And yes i agree that by having most peoples not having voices would be huge downgrade (fallout 76 is good example for that, so many people dislike that they launch game where isn't any voiced npc) Abaout modding, new vegas has 900 quest mod on nexus while fallout 4 have 750. Sure 2016 there wasn't good way to add new voiced lines to protagonist but in year 2024 we allready have mods that adds voiced protagonist with new lines that sounds like vanilla voices. But i totally agree abaout leadership and minutemen, nuka world is more the same you come to overboss but it still feels like you have to do everything, only times you get any help are when going hunt down gang leader that betreyed others or when taking over settlements, like yeah i really need to help with those molerats on starlight drive-in after clearing out 20 gatorclaw on nukaworld while raiders just sit and wait to me get job done. Abaout prydwen, that would have easily fixed by not allowing to player go there with any companions, i dont see reason they would let outsiders in. Another thing is when you go clear arc jet and have companion with you, you get invited to be part of brotherhood but your companion not. Kid on the fridge quest dont make sense in anyway, even if ghouls could surive without eating or drinking there is no way he could just be on the fridge near quincy 210 years without nobody letting him out. But abaout jet, if you belive fallout bible yeah Myron is inverted of jet only problem with that is fallout bible just get it wrong, i havent play fallout 2 on myself but what i have read Myron himself admits it's orginally from pre-war, also Myron claims he did make jet but on same game there is long time jet addict so it's not make any sense Myron would have made jet orginaly.

I thought the armour deterioration was fine but the weapons one was dumb Let me explain You can shoot tens of thousands of rounds through a firearm (especially military ones) without them simply breaking maybe add a mechanic that you have to maintain them like clean them or something similar And you can take a tire iron and bash skulls and break bones for years before it breaks IT WONT BREAK the steel is harder than bone PLEASE DONT DO THIS IM MAKING A POINT but the armour being shot at and beaten with melee weapons should cause the armour to break

Ah, i have to disagree on weapon degradation. Personally I feel like that mechanic doesnt add a lot to a game cept make you have to manage another resource. It just feels bad to punish early game players with unreliable weapons for not investing in repair. As for power armor, yeah its definitely unrealistic. But its obviously just a balancing game mechanic since power armor is so OP. I can accept that.

Well... as they say, we have to make do with what we have. I envy modders that they have so much patience, that they provide us with quality mods non-stop. If most of the things you mentioned really bother you, you can check out the "Horizon v1.8 Immersive Survival System" mod on Nexus. The mod is in alpha, builds on the Horizon 1.8.7 mod, and is... well, you have to read everything in there, it's going to be an enormously large mod. I will say up front that this is going to be a tough game for anyone who starts playing this. As I said before, if these things bother you, Qrsr tries to fix it. I quote from the description page: "My orientation is Fallout 1+2 but also "Tactics" and "New Vegas" when it comes to lore, brutality, humor, etc. and other games such as "7 Days To Die", "Age of Empires 1 and 2" when it comes to crafting etc."

Pretty much everything boils down to one core problem: Godd Howard wanted more action, less story/lore. Why world build in a complex and interesting way when you can blow $#!7 up betterer? Thanks, Godd. Anywho, so on to the Sixty Second Men ... it's worse than that. I don't remember hearing a single mention of the OTHER faction that does nice things for neighbors and opposes villains: THE ATOM CATS! There is literally a whole faction that no one even remembers to include because it was ... a joke? Horrifically underutilized? Not that I'd want every play-through to forcibly involve them like the other factions (which is itself a sin), but should you enjoy saying Daddy-O a lot ... they SHOULD have been viable to do ... something ... anything ... with. But that would have meant spending less time making those fantastic replacement weapons that FO4 absolutely totally nailed when they yanked all of our canon ... err ... cannons. Honestly, I suspect Fallout is going to continue to get the short end of the dev cycle stick even when it should be back in rotation, and won't get any 3rd party options like New Vegas did to alleviate that strain, no matter how many years go by with N O T H I N G, simply because Godd Howard is at odds with anyone and everyone who cares in any way about the Fallout series as a whole. Rather than let people do better with Fallout, internally or externally, Godd Howard will hold Fallout hostage until worldwide we all sign in blood his satanic pact to agree with his vision that the only RPG in Fallout is the one which propels grenades via rockets, and that any other acronym with these letters does not exist in the context of Fallout. I was hoping that M$ would somehow pressure Godd to release the hostage, but I'm not seeing ANY signs that M$ actually cares about this part of their investment. 😞 (And no, vague rumors do not a sign make. They're just products of wishful thinking ... until they become a lot more substantial than vague rumors at least.) I could be wrong. I hope that I am. I'd love to have a Fallout game that I can love to look forward to. But, unfortunately, I doubt it. Look at what Godd is doing to TES. It's the same thing. He has a vision for action games, which would be great if only Bethesda's success wasn't so solidly founded on RPGs. Bethesda really has to find a way to gag Godd before they completely crack their foundation beyond repair and find they have built their lofty ambitions upon what is now glorified sand. M$, are you reading this? Do you see this investment's future? You still have time! Oh. Right. Windows 11. Yeah, you don't care what customers think. Sorry. Never mind. M$. if you need more useless advice from a customer of yours, you can maybe still reach me on my Win10 VM running on my Linux box, at least until the day soon when I don't even need that to play games on Linux anymore, because yes, M$, you're totally winning, son. M$ and Godd Howard, a winning team For The Future!

Nobody ever accused Bethesda to not give us enough effort for the money, they worked their ass off. But they wasted so much energy and time with the wrong things; Fallout 4 is way worse in this aspect. It has so many things and systems in it, but none of it has a quality better than mediocre. Fallout 4 is "paint by numbers", the leveled lists, the trees and building, and the NPC are there, but everything else must be replaced if you don't want to get blind, and angry and bored soon. With the result that it runs like shit. This game isn't good for my karma. BTW: There was no special effort at all behind Thicket Excavations. It's just a water activator positioned by a script and some NPC with an enable parent, and there is no special navmesh for it. I transformed it into a fully functional settlement, with a terminal to set the water height: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqeve3aiaM9podk

@PancuroniumB 2 жыл бұрын
@PixelMurder Very interesting information, thanks for the comment! I assumed that much of the navmesh is initially disabled throughout the quarry to prevent Sully Mathis or your companions from falling into the water, then enabled after Pull the Plug is over and the quarry is drained. Perhaps that's not the case. Regardless, enabling some lights after a quest stage fires must be a much easier process than however Thicket Excavations' transformation was handled.

@@PancuroniumB You draw a navmesh underwater and give the triangles a water property. There is no separate navmesh for the water surface. The dude just stays there because he has an AI procedure forcing him to sandbox around the machine. And they give a damn about your companion :) BTW: The Raider Sully is technically another NPC. But enabling lights in a grand scale is more work than you may think, because you would have to place double the lights sources and double the visible light statics like lamps and link them all to a marker. And there are a lot more invisible light sources in the game than you may think.

The argument about the lighting situation and the subsequent level design is on point. Because I like that I want to write my two cents. I actually like the bright design. I find myself playing the unrealistic but somewhat a little bit realistic games more than those with realistic design and worlds. I think for me it comes down to the games loop that triggers serotonin and dopamine. And somehow realism counters that for me. I find myself more stressed by realistic games. And at the end of it all I play a game to have a good time. Yes, I play on the highest difficulties but not being able to see in a game makes it frustrating for me. And yes you are right. Making the interiors dark if there is no light source would justify the night person perk. It would be scary and force you to use the pipboy. However, if an NPC can sense the player through pitch blackness and attack while I can’t see it and fight back. It would just make the game unplayable. So the solution would be the implementation of an npc line of sight and also extremely different behavior. Therefore making the whole game impossible. I don’t know a game to this date that could pull that off in the right way. This would require a sophisticated light and npc behavior algorithm that is just not possible today. And then we get back to the realism dilemma again. Is the loop that generates the happy stuff in my brain working better because of realism or the lack of it.

so on the power still being on id say the issue isnt so much that it is but that as you say later its not internally consistent. it doesnt break lore that there was a resource shortage as you can have a shortage when there are lets say 10 billion people and it stop being a problem after most of them are turned into microwave dinners. most places just have things like light bulbs and a few terminals on. its not that much power. theres the Poseidon reservoir that is a hydroelectric plant. if you allow for the same unobtanium that keeps food forever and terminals/robots functional then no reason that thing cant still be running at reduced capacity. the issues are again shit world building. light bulbs are 1 thing but there are quests like the quarry or the one that requires clearing out Weston water treatment plant. those pumps are going to use a hell of a lot more power or even all of diamond city. they seem to draw power from no where. if nothing else part of building up settlements and the minute men could and should have involved a bit more concern for that grid that doesnt exist. new Vegas at least paid lip service to the idea that while the old world might still be limping along its definitely not unlimited and even made it a core part of one of the factions goals/problems. tldr: lights being on isnt an issue. shit world building is

In terms of AI generated text to speech voice acting... I think it's a dangerous precedent to include in a game given the potential for pushing out lower level voice actors in both the theoretical fallout 4 that used it or any games that will use it in the future. I personally think that if a game company got away with it once in a potentially justified circumstance other games will use it specifically to avoid paying voice actors which is a net negative. That being said I'm not against the fallout 1 or 2 style dialoug system being a vew voice characters with others being texted based even if it might be awkward in game.

If companies can spend less money by replacing voice actors and concept artists (and perhaps some texture artists as well) with AI, they will. And due to the law of coercive competition, if AI is useful enough all game development teams will have to start taking advantage of it or be left unprofitable. Some jobs will be lost, but historically new technologies have always created more work for people to do. The automobile may have put carriage drivers out of business, but I’ll bet it created 100 new jobs for each one it made obsolete. Don’t worry too much about AI. It’s not going to destroy the world or anything.

@@yes5937 A decent chunk of people might be displaced, but that’s always happening. The best anyone can do is attempt to advocate for their own economic interests, and try to limit the harm this economic system can exact on them as much as possible. Good luck with that, though. You have to understand that average people like us can have no impact, not only on the AI debate but on any issue. You can be “part of the conversation”, but what’s going to happen will happen regardless of your input. Even individuals with audiences numbering in the millions can only move the needle a few degrees towards their desired outcome. Compared to them, we are nothing. Consequently, if you’re in an occupation vulnerable to disappearing as a result of AI or anything else, all you can do is try to stay prepared so you can land on your feet when the termination notice comes in.

@@PancuroniumB I disagree, people can speak their mind about something as unethical as A.I being used for stuff in the entertainment industry, to lie down and accept it would mean that people's input is worthless. I feel it's integral to brace for the worst but that doesn't mean people shouldn't stand against something that's completely and utterly nonsensical regardless of how much these companies want to make money. People today are already against the use of A.I in their media, no matter the situation it will always be seen as not cool, and to let it just overwrite talent and creativity that many individuals have contributed to the industry that the A.I based their work off of is absurd. Don't ever feel like you can't change something in the world, you may not be able to move mountains but giving up is the worst thing you can do.

@@yes5937 You can speak all you like, but if nobody’s listening, what does it matter? Even if an overwhelming majority of people opposed AI being used in commercial projects (and recent polls don’t show this) their opinions could be altered by propaganda within a very short time period. Unless you have a high-ranking position in a major news or social media platform, you can’t have any influence on this process. No individual can change the world. All you can do is understand it, and try your utmost to protect yourself and those you care about from its worst excesses.

One of the greatest RPGs of all time, and way better than Fallout 3 and New Vegas. If 3 and New Vegas are so great, why does FO4 have like 10x more people playing it on any given time according to Steam charts? FO3 = aged horribly. New Vegas = aged horrible AND mostly empty space.
