Ferrari only sold cars to race. Porsche was before the beetle. He designed a 4 wheel drive electric car for Mercedes in 1890 somthing. He also worked for auto union now Audi to set speed records in the early 30s with the silver arrows, 250 miles per hour on a public roads. His engine and body design ideas pre date Hiltlers power grab in 1933.

The main reason for a canvas roof was to make loading of large objects easier. Anything too large to go in through the boot lid or the doors was lowered in through the roof. .

Also, the Austin Seven. Not only was it better and cheaper than a Ford Model T in its role, it also served as the first car for many manufacturers. Two of these are Datsun (modern day Nissan) and BMW.

Well, Golf Mk2 indeed changed the Balkan (ex. Yugoslavian countries). Around mid. 2000s and early 2010s, it was very popular and almost everyone owned it. I had one built in Brussels, 🇧🇪 in 1989. It was the most reliable and non-breakable car. Today, it's rare to see them after just a few yrs later, incredible. Mine was sold in 2017 and it's still active, but rarely seen.

Actually here in Brazil,we got a different lineage of the Beetle,which is known as Fusca here. Starts with the launch of the Fusca in the early 40's,then the Brasilia on the late 70's and finally the Golf coming in the mid 80's. Still,all three are very popular,and it isn't hard to find one of those in the streets.

@@savagetuner2404 The Trabant is the car that liberated East Germany when the wall fell and has become a cult classic for that reason. It was also the first and only car to use a material called "Duroplast" which was a mix of resin and cotton fiber. In short, it was a brilliant car for the time and place and definitely doesn't deserve to be forgotten.

@Anon Commenter nope. It was to be a people's car. German's paid up front and when it was built, they could pick it up. However, war came along and the majority of the "people's car" were owned and driven by high ranking Nazis. The people never got theor cars.

Honda introduced the Civic, and also don't forget Australia has some automotive history dating back to 1934 when it comes to the ute, the wife of a farmer wrote a letter to Ford complaining about not being able to get a suitable enough car for going to church on Sundays and taking the pigs to the market on Mondays, and so Ford built the ute.

Thanks for the ,up'. What I forgot to say, is that vw promised the workers ,a car, if you give a deposit now.' They gave the deposit, but never got ,the car'. The only reason, why it succeeded, was an English army officer, who was in pension, who came with the idea, of parts on the shelf, before the car was sold. That time, it was a big struggle, to get parts, if you had a brakedown. Parts must be ordered, and you had to wait how long, to get it ! Something small, the ,new' vw frontwheel drive was a NSU, they merged with vw, Horch, and Audi, there's where the 4 rings came in !
