You say you apply the “done is better than perfect” mindset to this channel, but it’s really hard to tell 😂 This channel is amazing

Having been in this 'failure' zone for several times during my PhD, I didn't know one day this video would pop up on my suggestion. So helpful, Andy. Thanks for this.

Diminishing returns law when approaching perfection, that's a gold nugget dear Dr Stapleton. I adore your videos. Wish I had access to them when I did my Masters research. But it's perfect fitted for my professional life right now. Thank-you so much!

What I think is brilliant about this is “celebrating failure”. Unfortunately as a society and culture we expect easy to get finished and polished quality outcomes, without experiencing the litany of failures and the carnage of hopes, dreams and lost time to get there. We should teach kids that failure is an integral part of the path to success, and that success is never guaranteed, but what you learn on the way helps towards future successes.

Another cringe tip that works really, really well for my Ph.D.: the 80-20 rule. I'm overloaded with projects (my supervisor is kinda shit at project management), so I constantly need to jump between tasks. And it is true. Most of what I show to my supervisor I did in 20% of my time (i.e. an hour before the meeting), whereas the remaining 80% of the time are spent way less productive (coffee breaks, making ice cream using liquid nitrogen, watching youtube videos about how shitty academia is etc).

The thing about failure is typically American. However this time they're right. Failure is better. The Antidote speaks about this. Any self help does.

My problem with with the 1% rule is its delusional name. Improving by 1% in a single day would be a huge improvement and is completely unrealistic.
