Powdered cheese was in great demand by the US military quartermaster corp to feed soldiers in WWII. When the war ended they had a shi- -, er at lot of this stuff and not a lot of soldiers to feed. The quartermaster offered to sell some to Charles Doolin. It was such a good price the Doolin bought all of it. He had no use for the product but he saw a good deal. Once he had it he added it to a corn puff and Cheetos were born.

I cooked in the army, I used powdered and dehydrated food all the time, even shrimp packed more than 30 yrs before i opened the can, but the #1 powder i would recomend in any prep, beef base, chicken base, vegetable base, tomatoe base, I can guarantee with these ingredients, I could cook a turd and make it tastey to ya. Powdered onion soup is another staple can be used in lots of things, dry beans,all kinds,rice,noodles all kinds,dehydrated potatoes,all kinds,dehydrated vegetables, these items go very far feeding more people with very little. Powdered cheese,powdered milk. Dehydrated meat is always good but it is expensive, but with these ingredients you can make hearty soups by using small amounts of these items and feed many people. Its really not hard

A man after my own heart! Lol, I 100% agree, I use all of those powders in 75% of my meals every day and I buy the big tubs of it. We've been in 'survival mode' since 2008 as I've been a disabled single parent since then.(until last year when I married a wonderful woman). Everyone raves about my cooking, and when I tell them my "secret ingredient" they usually laugh. It sounds to me like your preps are the same as mine across the board. Dry beans, potatoes, veggies and spices. I usually say "I can make cardboard taste good, but if you got 1/2 pound of meat of any kind I can make a meal for 10 people who will crave it for the rest of their lives. My grandmother (who was first nation) grew up in the great depression and had to feed a huge family along with the farmhands and took over the cooking on the farm at age 7. She's who taught me how to cook.

I have a few things that I ordered from Thrive life, including powdered butter. My family wasn’t crazy about the flavor of the beef and chicken options, however I believe they’d be less picky in a SHTF scenario, and I actually liked the ground beef option, I found it pleasing in ramen and soup. The cans last at least 25 years when still sealed. Once opened they should be used within 6 months. I would genuinely like a free dryer, but the cost has prevented me from investing in one. I will start pressure canning next month and see how effective I am with canning fruit, soups and meat. Edited to add, it wasn’t the flavor of the meat but the texture. I was still a beginner and possibly I didn’t prepare them as well as I could have.

downside to powdered peanut butter is that you lose the best part which is the fat. we need a certain amount of fat to avoid protein toxicity hence why sustaining on something like rabbits alone does not work. the rest are great options, not sure i would want to waste money on powdered peanut butter, since i have beans and rice for protein.

@@irislewis4711 ya if you are using it for short term that works. if you store it for long term then you need to grow a sustainable source of fat like sunflowers lots of them to press fat from the seeds. since fats and oils go rancid after 1-3 years. so if you are storing it for long term not so great. mostly it is good for adding to smoothies as having the fat removed makes it blend better with smoothies.

Powered food, dehydrated food, freeze dried foods are expensive so they are not for everyday use for the average person. I think they are mostly intended to be survival food in the event of a disaster, Hurricanes, tornado’s, flooding, power grid interruptions, etc. Many people have been buying these kind of foods little by little since the pandemic in 2000. Also, watch for sales. I like powdered tomato’s and freeze dried fruits and vegetables because there is no waste.

I have a question about the video. I get GNC protein waste supplements and they have an expiration date and it’s not 30 years. Does this mean I’m getting the wrong kind of protein supplement or does that mean the expiration date can be discarded?

Powdered, dehydrated, freeze dried food that is packaged for 10-30 year storage will clearly state that fact on the label. Once you open the package the food inside will deteriorate after 30 days to a year. All this should be explained on the label.

. I vaccum seal my products in glass with lids. It lasts for yrs and taste fresh yrs later, eggs I water glass, FD & dehydrate, can everything I grow or get deals on, etc. Started in 1965 and to this day continue. Keep in a room in my celler, under ground, with no windows and a door, keep it dark and it stays cool yr round. It's great to only have to go shopping every 4 or 5 months. 😊

Where can you buy powdered food and fruit! 😊
@frugallivingrecipes
@frugallivingrecipes 11 ай бұрын
You can purchase powdered food and fruit from various retailers, both online and offline. Online options include popular platforms like Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and iHerb, where you can find a wide range of products and brands. Additionally, specialty health food stores such as Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts Farmers Market often carry powdered food and fruit items, catering to those looking for organic or natural options. Nutrition and supplement stores like GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe also stock these products. Supermarkets and grocery stores frequently have health food or organic sections where you might find powdered food and fruit products

You have forgoten the added health benifits of freeze drying over dehydration. Dehydration cooks food on low heat which leads to significant loss of nutrition. Freeze drying retains 98 percent of nutrition. Freeze drying is considerably better.

Biscuits and bread mixes have much shorter shelf life. I was shocked to learn that the cans of mixes I'd purchased only last 18 months or so. Wasted money. Hillbilly Kitchen demonstrated bread making with only two ingredients. We plan to try it this weekend. 😊
