Thanks coin “Greek”. Can’t wait to add an 8 reales to my collection. My boss and I were going thru some stuff from a house he flipped and found a 1876 “cap and rays” that had been holed. Trying to talk him into selling it to me but we can’t settle on a fair price. Thanks for the content. Keep posting!!!!

When you travel to Peru, make sure you see the Casa de Moneda in Lima. That is where the coins with the "LIMAE" mint mark were struck. There is alot of history in Peru, from the Aztec Lines to Machu Pichu and much more! Plan to stay for awhile. I've been twice and I have only seen a fraction of Peru's history! I will return!

These coins are so cheap compared to US coins of the same era. I usually believe in buying American but with old coins I prefer foreign.

I love chop marked coins... Would be cool to start a chop mark collection, but they are all so $$$$

The chop marks are interesting. These coins were also counter-marked in the UK and used as every day coinage due to a cronic shortage of coins. These coins at that time were stored by the BOE and released then re-tarrifed to 4 Shillings 9p. These counter-marked coins are valuable in the UK. All coins with a Spanish influence are very interesting. Very interesting coins and good to hear your opinions on each coin.

1814 We took a little trip, Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip. I forget the rest of it, but the gist was that they kicked the' crap out of the British.

I'm glad you mentioned the Spanish government and their control over those countries.I can't imagine the working conditions the miners had to endure,not to mention the smelting process as well.Short lifespans

35 years ago; chopmarked coins were half the price of similar graded coins.
