I have always loved chives and yes, they are very expensive at the stores. My hubby had a plant last year but he did not take good care of the single plant, it got over grown and did not have the flowers you show on your plant. It was in a plastic mid size pot on our porch. We live in an apartment and would be very much helped for us that do not have a big yard to plant. I had one question also, if we get a plant that grows and has the blossoms, when do we harvest these chives, and do we wash the stems or flowers? I made my chive flower vinegar today - just steep the freshly picked flowers in white vinegar for 3 - 4 weeks, shaking regularly, then strain. Turns the vinegar a lovely purple, and has a good chive taste for salad dressings - makes a nice present too. If happy, they'll self seed around; seeds are easy to save too.

If there was a long term grid down and we couldn’t buy onions, onion seeds or starts, chives would fill the gap. It also takes two years to collect onion seeds. The seeds don’t last long either, about two years. So I grow chives year round in zone 8 Amazing in scrambled eggs and fried rice

A friend of mine gave me a little plant of chives from his garden many years ago. I love them but they grew so much to the point of being invasive, especially if you have a small garden area. Last year I transferred some into pots and this year I placed the pots in the garden so bees can pollinate my tomatoes and zucchini or any other vegetable that needs to be pollinated. This week I will move the pots next to the cucumbers. 🤣😂🤣 For me it's working out wonderfully.. Love your video.. Keep up the good work.. 👍

Chives have essentially replaced green onions in our house. They grow faster and easier and the taste is milder so the kids enjoy them more. We’ve been putting the blossoms in salads, dips, butter for crusty bread and started a vinegar. I’m also experimenting with less common uses for me, like cream cheese and chive baked wontons and Korean chive pancakes.

When I was a kid my mom always had chives growing in front of her house, I always thought they were a decorative plant since she only grew them because she liked the purple flowers. She didn't like the taste of chives, just the how they looked. (As an aside, she's got a massive fennel plant in her front yard too. She doesn't eat it, just grows it because it looks nice.) I absolutely love chives (especially on a baked potato or with eggs), and will definitely be considering them for our garden.

I have a perennial fennel plant that I got a start from an herbalist in our area. It is a beautiful deep purple and I can see it being a lovely contrast in a front landscape. I also absolutely love the smell. That is one of my favorite things about the garden. It is a complete sensory experience. The smells from the flowers, garlic, onions, spices, and mint ... I love the smell of quality soil. You see the beauty, feel the sun, the breeze, hear the birds ... it is great for my mental and physical health!

Flat leaf Italian Parsley are tasty and very easy to grow, in fact, if you allow them they will easily reseed in your yard/garden.

all members of the allium family (onion) have lovely flowers that attract pollinators! there are commercial flower bulbs that are sold especially for their lovely flowers. chives- and the perennial onions like nodding or walking onion- can easily be planted in a flower garden or pollinator garden with no one making anything of it. in fact i have often planted regular ordinary onions (not perennial) in my flower beds and vegetable beds to pull in pollinators, and they produce really lovely flowers!

We just received as gifts bunching onions from a native American in our community. There were enough I divided them into 4 bunches and planted them with my blackberries, strawberries and in 2 raised beds where I plant brassicas and other veggies. I love chives as well.

OH! both chives and garlic chives sold as young plants in the stores are usually a lump of multiple plants. while you can plant it "as is" and it will spread slowly, you can also *carefully* separate out the plants, and get 8 or more individual chive plants from each pot... i tend to plant them in groups of two or three but it lets me divide a pot of chives into many areas of my garden for not much money. they will fill in and spread slowly over time. i almost always plant some good flowers (chives or any flowers really) near the plants that have trouble being pollinated- like cucumber- to attract more good insects, so dividing up the chive plants lets me put them in many places. oh gosh i keep thinking of new comments- im sorry for spamming your comment section... i hope at least it helps the algorithm (wince)

I love chives! A few years ago, (25 or so), my chives didn't come back. At first I didn't notice, until I was going to use them in something. I went out to get some, but there wasn't any! The real kicker was when I wanted to make my blue cheese cracker spread with green onion tops instead of chives. It was ok, but not the same! We had an unusual fall and winter last an we lost a few plants, so as soon as I noticed plants coming up I went out to check on them. I needn't have worried. They made it fine!

I bought my house in 1993 - it came with a chive plant which I moved to a new raised bed in perhaps 2003. It flourished providing all the chives I needed for cooking UNTIL this past winter when we had over a week of temperatures in the teens here in Puget Sound. Spring has shown just one surviving bit of growth but I told it I'd provide a cloche next winter if it continues to grow back. So that's over 30 years the same chive bunch! Similar experience with mint that was in a pot.

I have some stored in jars with oxygen absorbers and some in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers also

Once they are completely dry, just put them in a mason jar and vacuum seal them or use an oxygen absorber. You can store them without doing either and they will be okay for a year or so. They are super light so they will blow around so protect them from breezes. You don't have to make a contraption like this but it will give you an idea how to air dry.

Time is short. It is time to go home... the rapture is near. Buckle up the ride is going to get bumpy. In the time that we have left until the rapture, it is very, very, important to be able to hear the Holy Spirit talk to you and guide you through these perilous times that we are in and that are coming in the near future. If you have not accepted Yeshua(Jesus) as your savior and you will be left behind in the rapture. Most people today, right now, this minute, are comfortable. They go on with their day to day activities. They don’t see the changes in what is happening all around them, the evil that is rising. They either don’t know or don’t care. Right now, you are watching the controlled demolition of the US. This is by design to bring in the antichrist for his 7-year reign. The destruction of the animal barns, the land, air and water with the train derailments. Be aware where the derailments are, and how they not only affect the running waterways, the ground water as well. Large population areas, where they can take your land due to it being unsafe. The burning of the chemicals that float all over in the air streams, how much comes back as acid rain… destroying the crop lands, etc. That is just the start, there is an increasing number of earthquakes, tornados, wind storms, and other natural disasters that you as a person are helpless to, as well as can’t control. I can’t speak for the evil that satan will bring to this world, but the judgment of God on the earth is coming as well. When YHWH (God) takes His church in the rapture the tribulation will start. The restrainer, YHWH, has always been present on this earth since the beginning. When the church leaves He leaves. The horrors that will be unleashed are unfathomable. With YHWH’s presence still here, the arm tickets started, the control with the masks and mandates were a trial for what is to come. There will be more and worse pandemics, there will be the mark of the beast (if taken, you will never be redeemed), there will be a market crash and the institution of the digital dollar, and the introduction of AI as it relates to your control. You can bet just after the rapture when they come on the TV and say that it can’t be the rapture cause I’m still here (LIE), and/or aliens must have taken these people for reprograming (also LIE), then they will lock everyone down into martial law, (of course for your safety)… you will not be able to move about freely. There will be more that happens but I’m guessing that will happen pretty quickly post the rapture. On the other hand, you will have YHWH pouring out His wrath during this time as well. There will be earthquakes, tsunamis, tornados, volcanos, meteors falling out of the sky, solar flares knocking out the electricity all over the world, plus more. There will be a great number that die very soon after the rapture, and over the next 7 years most of the earth’s population will die. If you have accepted Yeshua after the rapture you will have to die to prove your love for Him: martyrs. You have all the preppers channels that are talking about you need to prepare for “the next great depression” or the “banking collapse”. Not one of them, have I seen, say a word toward the wrath of God and/or the rise of the antichrist, NOT ONE. I know they mean well however, I don’t believe they really know what is coming. They tell you to stock and store food, precious metals, tools, etc. Just curious, in a burning world where you have volcanos going off that have never gone off and 9.0 earthquakes in places that have never had any or had very small ones… EMP’s and even nuclear bombs, so what good is all that food, and or gold and silver when everything around you collapses, or gets taken in a tornado, or even washed away in a tsunami? My other question, who do you think guides these people to tell you to buy, buy, buy, stock and store so YOU can take care of yourself and yours. Satan, that’s who…. He wants you dead, he hates you and teaches you to rely on yourself… in what is coming that is just not going to be an option. He has lied and made you feel you can take care of yourself… With all that is in store, you will need to be able to rely on YHWH, to go to heaven to avoid what is coming or to accept Yeshua after. When YHWH leaves, all the people are going to become angry, hateful, arrogant, and turn on each other you will feel and see the shift just after the rapture, after the shock of your children and loved ones just vanishing out of thin air. Things will become supernatural and things you have never seen before will start happening. Satan wants control of this world and he will take it in any way shape or form he can. When YHWH leaves satan will rule everything, that is why the fed now system to control your money and you, the increase in the plandemics so that they can feed you more poison in the new arm tickets coming, and the cameras everywhere along with the 5 gee that connects you to the computer system via the food and arm tickets. Your true option, accept Yeshua (Jesus) as your savior before the rapture and be on the boat home, as was in the days of Noah… or if you miss the boat because your so caught up in loving the world and not your Father, YHWH, you will have to ask Him to save you after the rapture, and hope you can make it through or die a martyr (someone who dies for their faith). What is coming is a war between the creator, YHWH and the created, satan. They are both working for your eternal soul… satan hates you and wants you dead and to burn in the lake of fire with him. You originally came from YHWH, who created you and “knitted you together in your mother’s womb”. He loves every one of His children. He wants none to parish. Everyone on this earth today is here for a reason. Are you going to accept Yeshua and be saved and take your place in His kingdom and serving out your reason of being created for this world today, or are you going to keep your head in the sand and die because the world was too enticing and you couldn’t leave satan’s enticements? Understand that no matter what you have done Yeshua (Jesus) died on the cross to take your sins upon Him so that you could appear to the Father spotless and go to heaven. You can’t be in the presence of the Father without being spotless. No man can be spotless on their own because we are ALL sinners from birth. Yeshua came to this world to save not convict because He loves his creation (man). It is by grace that you are saved, not by works. When He returns to earth for the second time, it will be for judgement. The rapture is the taking of the ones that have chosen to believe that he came to earth as a man, died on the cross and shed his blood for you. He took your sins upon himself, to be sin for you, so you could come to the Father spotless, then he rose 3 days later. You need to repent and turn from your sinful life, asking for forgiveness. YHWH’s wrath will fall upon this earth after the rapture. If any are still here after the rapture you will need to believe (see above). You will have to be persecuted to prove your love by being killed for your beliefs: The Martyrs. You need to make the decision if you are going to follow Yeshua or not. The “doors to the Ark” are closing and when they are closed, no one else will be able to enter. Noah was laughed at when he was building a huge ship in the middle of the desert when they only had the morning dew to collect their days water from. He kept telling people there is a huge rain storm coming. Kind of like today, people make Yeshua a second thought, they didn’t believe him. After Noah, his 3 boys and their families were sealed into the ark by YHWH, the rains started. The rest were too late. They had many years to make the decision to follow Yeshua and repent but could not let go the world around them and they perished. There are many today that is not making the decision to come out of the world today, and just like in Noah’s day, they will parish as well. You need to believe that Yeshua came to earth as a man, died on the cross for your sins and rose 3 days later. You need to confess your beliefs out loud. You will need to repent and turn from your sinful life. Make sure you are diligently seeking Him and reading the Bible plus praying and asking for guidance what is real and what is not. Satan is putting up a lot of deception presently and if you don’t have the discernment you will not be able to tell what is real and what is not. YHWH wishes for none of his children to parish. However, those that choose to not wake up are going to. They are lulled into feeling like everything is going to be ok, we are going through another rough patch. As I have said to my family, no matter how deep you stick your head into the sand to avoid seeing all the signs around you, it won’t change what is happening and going to happen. You will be caught off guard and unprepared for what is to come. You will parish for your lack of knowledge.

@AKWashkeeton, I wanted to say to this poster that for those walking in the path of the Lord, they know what is coming. For those not walking the path, they have eyes and ears closed ,and all of this is in the book of Revelation in the bible and again it is for a purpose. I know people have the right & ability to share their own ideals but not all people who come to learn about many things (such as preparing or planting) are on the same path. Those of us that following the Lord, do not impose our beliefs upon all who come for a different reason. Yes the things you have posted are accurate and the lord wants us to share the "WORD", yet we are not to beat it into the heads of all that are in the world. Remember that the LORD gave all people "free will" so it is by their choice not by the choice of others. I hope you will find peace in this world and the next. Amen.

@@momof2mimiof3 it is a post for those that it may help open someones eyes, those that don't want to read, so be it close it and move on... but for the one that may find it and it touches their heart, I post for the lost sheep out there that may be hearing the call and not understanding what the call is. as a reminder: any member of the onion or garlic family... is still a member of the family. that sounds very obvious until someone with an onion allergy has chives put in their food because "its not an onion" MOST, but not all, onion allergies are to a sulfur compound in the onions that breaks down when the onion is cooked. (yes, i am allergic to onions and garlic. its a sulfur compound, and i can eat french onion soup- onions cooked through- but a sprinkle of raw chives or scallions on my food and i am violently ill)
