That's not the meaning. The bible is an esoteric writing of ancient African spirituality. 400 years of bondage refers to the soul entombed in fresh through the 4 elements required for the soul to cross over into matter - fire, earth, air, and water. When the flesh dies, the soul regains its freedom.
