The man you've shown with blue skin, was named Paul Karason. He was not blue because of in-breeding, but because he consumed colloidal silver daily, to self-treat a condition known as Argyria (dermatitis on the face). He passed away in 2013.

As a Pakistani English person who was the result of a first cousin incestual relationship, please for the love of god don’t have kids with your cousins or family. Not even once. I have severe health issues and spent my entire childhood being in and out of hospital. My siblings are all healthy and so it was confusing for me when one of my consultants said my health issues were 99.9% genetic to my mum ( who still stayed quiet about my biological dad). My uncle told me when I was 12 that my biological dad is their first cousin. I was so upset, disgusted and angry. It doesn’t always take generations, just once can bring a child into this world who ends up suffering. My aunt would justify cousin incest still by saying that it’s okay because ( the Quran says it’s okay) despite how she’s seen me suffer all my life. The willingness to be ignorant and in denial is real when it is cultural. My cousin ( her son) backed me up and said no person should ever have children with anyone they are related to. I wish in the UK there was a law against it too. I stopped identifying as a Muslim when I was around 18 years old for that and many other reasons.

The thing I hate about inc3st is that it hurts innocent children, like you. You have to live with the consequences, and it seems so cruel to inflict that on someone who didn't have the choice. I hope you're doing ok with your health stuff. I have lots of health issues too, but my parents are 15th cousins who knows how many generations removed (they are descended from, amongst many others, a brother and sister in the early 1500's, and I only know that cos my dad is super into genealogy)

@@zacharymelendez2982 People from the old times and still some countries today is still practicing it, it might be weird or unkown to most people today because we have better options but technically it's not wrong. My parents countries are mostly still doing it for security. But what unknown is unknown doesn't mean it's wrong. People from the old times had to marry between cousins because mostly lived in small villages and there was not many options otherwise how did we multiplied eachother?. The problem with it especially today is when it comes to your children than can grow up with a genetic disorder etc. You can study it even more. I personally not too closed to my male cousins, but just female cousins naturally, compared to you, since your a western where you can feel comfortable around the opposite gender has a friend etc.. not having this sense of boundaries can make you develop a certain familiarity since its whitin the familly circle. A brother is your brother, your sister is your sister, but your cousin is your cousin not your brother or sister unless you developped this relationship than naturally can lead to a fraternity feels which is understandable. But either wise I invite you to look for It even more.

Given a global evolution with much different boundary conditions, we end up with the amazing diversity of today. We have been given the knowledge to look in the womb early on in pregnancy. Women have the right to choose whether to keep the baby or not. A living disabled child struggles everyday and so does the whole family. Some will say, oh I'd never abort until it actually happens to their family. Ukraine has an orphanage filled with disabled unwanted children that the parents dropped off. They struggle to keep workers and funds for all of the children. That is a living he'll for the children in pain everyday. Why anyone would choose to bring a child into the world to suffer, is incomprehensible.

When I was in Bangladesh, I didn't realize this, plus I was a child. Now, I am grown and live outside of Bangladesh and studied. Back in the country, I have heard that my grandma and her family along w my mother would blame other jealous people for putting black magic on my uncle. That's why he was not normal. But when I told my mom most likely the reason he was abnormal it is because of inbreeding. She got REAL defensive! People don't learn. Gross! Angelmans syndrome doesn’t only occur in incestuous relationships. My cousin and his wife both have a genetic mutation. @teijaflink2226

It's just that the risk is much bigger in an incestuous relationship as most genetic disorders are very rare, so bigger risk two cousins have the broken gene for a genetic disorder (in most cases you need it from both parents) than someone you are not related to have that broken gene too. But with bad luck it can still happen, I know a woman who married someone from other side of the eart with a completely different ethnicity but they still had a child with a very rare genetic disorder, so both parents had a broken gene for that disorder.

And don't forget Speilmeyer-Vogt disease. It's particularly heartbreaking since the kids develop normally until they are 6 year old and then, they go blind and decline, physically and mentally until they reach their twenties. And while they lose their abilities, they remember a time where they were able to function. Then, they die at 21 or 22. In my career, I met two families with this problem. All their kids were affected and they were big families (Since they had no idea something was wrong with their first child until 6 or 7 years, they had no reason to suspect what was going to happen.) The parents were first cousins in both cases. One of the youngest kids also had Down Syndrom. Truly tragic consequences of inbreeding.

Most cases of Down Syndrome (also known as trisomy 21) are not inherited, so you shouldn't blame that on inbreeding. Lots of people were born that way by pure chance. ----- While inbreeding can increase the risk of passing on certain genetic disorders, it can still happen if there is zero inbreeding because mutations can occur on their own.

But by then, self destruction is imminent. Especially when power and money is the main goal. It is merely a matter of time. There's a good-sized community of various sects of Amish and Mennonite people here in Central NY. They've really helped the economy a lot, buying run-down farms and making them beautiful and productive again (no food shortages here, either), and bringing in more small businesses and tourism...although as long as my old beagle lived, I could never convince her not to bark when a horse and buggy went by our house. They tend to marry within their various communities, although not close enough to be considered incestuous, but some genetic conditions are more common. Polydactylism (extra fingers) for one, also little people, and some Down's syndrome. The thing I admire about it is that all of them are treated as useful parts of the community. They don't send them away to institutions, they give them jobs suited to their abilities and accept them for who they are. My boyfriend had a job for a couple of years doing "day care" for a mentally handicapped man, and would take him to auctions and other public events put on by the Amish/Mennonite community because everyone treated him as just another person (and he loved the homemade doughnuts!). Perhaps the "ostrich" people have similar lives, because in their community it's not "different", but common.

Causes Human cells normally contain 23 pairs of chromosomes. One chromosome in each pair comes from your father, the other from your mother. Down syndrome results when abnormal cell division involving chromosome 21 occurs. These cell division abnormalities result in an extra partial or full chromosome 21. This extra genetic material is responsible for the characteristic features and developmental problems of Down syndrome. Any one of three genetic variations can cause Down syndrome: Trisomy 21. About 95 percent of the time, Down syndrome is caused by trisomy 21 - the person has three copies of chromosome 21, instead of the usual two copies, in all cells. This is caused by abnormal cell division during the development of the sperm cell or the egg cell. Mosaic Down syndrome. In this rare form of Down syndrome, a person has only some cells with an extra copy of chromosome 21. This mosaic of normal and abnormal cells is caused by abnormal cell division after fertilization. Translocation Down syndrome. Down syndrome can also occur when a portion of chromosome 21 becomes attached (translocated) onto another chromosome, before or at conception. These children have the usual two copies of chromosome 21, but they also have additional genetic material from chromosome 21 attached to another. NOT INCEST

Marrying your cousin only became considered incest in the late nineteenth century. I'm pretty heavy into genealogy, and discussions I've had with others on the topic indicate that almost everyone has a few cousin marriages in their family tree if you go back hundreds of years. In modern times, however, it can be problematic in certain cultures because of marrying cousins generation after generation, rather than just the occasional cousin marriage throughout the centuries. Cousin marriage inbreeding is kind of like photocopying a document. Do it once, and it's fairly legible. But a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy... Well, it becomes pretty much illegible fairly quickly. That's what happened to the Hapsburgs and to the pharaohs. And that's what happens to folks whose parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and great great grandparents all married their first cousins.

That has been my general understanding as well. There have been many first cousin marriages, one of the more famous being Charles and Emma Darwin's union. It's not a rarity by any stretch. In fact, first cousin marriages are still permitted in Virginia, and as a native Virginian of many generations on both sides, there is likely at least one instance of it in my own lineage somewhere. It's not so much the one time, although I'm thinking there must be some risk, even if only slight. The problems really surface when inbreeding occurs in subsequent generations, too. For the curious, the Darwin children grew to adulthood and led successful lives as I recall. One daughter did remain at home with her parents, but I'm not sure of the reason.

I have a (male) friend I have known since Jr. High, who was adopted because his birth mother was too young to financially take care of him. A few years later, after she married, and she and her new husband were more financially stable, she had a daughter that they both raised together. A normal family. When they were in their mid and late twenties, the siblings met up. They fell in love and wanted to get married, but due to legal issues, they were not able to. However, that did not stop them from being together. He had a vasectomy in order to avoid any kind of accidental pregnancy. They've been together for 22 years now in a very happy and healthy relationship. They adopted as well and have a beautiful daughter. Except for a few close friends, they never mentioned their familial relationship to anyone because of social stigmas. Even though I have kept their identities anonymous, I still asked them for permission to even post this. They are both great people and good friends.

The hematologist that worked with the Fugate's was from the University of Kentucky and it was part of a research project. It did work but after he gathered the results, he did not continue with the treatment. He had the data he needed. And this wasn't a standard medication that they could get and just take. Also, their condition was a bit more involved than being blue; it effected how well they processed oxygen and had effects on their cardiac systems and some were prone to seizures. Despite this they could be long lived. They were also affected to varying degrees, i.e., some were "bluer" than others. There are to my knowledge, no Blue Fugate's left anymore due to assimilation with the greater population. They lived in the mountains near Hazard, Ky. in Perry Co. Now with better roads and transportation they are no longer and cut off, so their gene pool expanded, and given it was a recessive trait, it stopped manifesting. This means of course, that several families carry it now, but as long as they don't intermarry, it shouldn't be a problem. By the way, lifetime Kentucky resident, and not blue.

To simplify: the closer the relation, the more likely both parents will contain copies of recessive traits and the more likely any children will obtain and express those recessive traits. Most recessive traits are not good for the individual, but some can be. Inbreeding is how we have so many dog breeds. A desirable recessive trait will be bred to be stable which usually means lots of inbreeding. Plants aren't much different. Inbreeding can reveal recessive traits that may or may not be desirable. A giant protruding jaw wouldn't be considered a very desirable trait, but blue eyes is. Everyone with blue eyes are related. 😉

🤔 I wonder if families that have all male or all female children is a hereditary thing? My maternal grand mother was one of 12 daughters with no brothers. She gave birth to 4 daughters. Her daughters all gave birth to daughters. I have 11 cousins (all female) who have only female children. Myself included, I have 3 daughters. I have researched our family history as far as 10 generations back (as much info as I was able to gather). We haven't had a record of a male child birthed in any of those generations.

Haemophilia isn’t always the result of inbreeding, it's a spontaneous gene mutation and can happen to literally anyone. I’ve done DNA tests and family trees and none of the marriages on my great grandmother’s side were related to one another. I carry Haemophilia B. Thousands of people have it, including the actor, the late Richard Burton and his brothers. Him and Elizabeth Taylor set up a charity to try to find a cure. My great grandmothers family also have other blood disorders I found through distant cousins. There’s no doubt that the royal family were incestuous but haemophilia doesn’t always in most cases stem from incest.

The widespread consanguinity in Pakistan has led to much microcephaly ("rat children"). Recently the cause of this condition has been denied by some but it is self-evident. Expect huge problems in America from the growing number of children who don't know who their father is as they begin to become sexually active. We're going to have half-sister/half-brother unions giving birth to babies who may have severe mental and physical health problems.

You know what I've always found strange about people feeling physically connected to individuals they're related to? There have been numerous scientific studies on the science of attraction and proven that our bodies send signals through pharamones in scent and saliva based on who we're most genetically compatible with to bear healthy children. I would think that we should be *repulsed* by people we share genetics with, even if we don't know that we share DNA.

@@Ephesians5-14 I have dual science degrees, one being in biology, and it is amazing how much new info comes to light as time goes on. I suspect that the attraction based on similar DNA has nothing to do with sexual attraction and "healthy children" but on strong family bonds based in safety & survival. For example, male lions can detect their siblings and offspring by pheromones and that plays into them developing a strong pride to protect their territory. Btw, I am 80% Italian but I married a woman who is mostly Irish & German. However, when I'm around other Italians I feel VERY strong ties and a camaraderie that compels me to stick with them as with a brother or sister. Some of that is no doubt social conditioning but often I don't even know they are of Italian lineage until later. Btw, when I was young I swore that I would NEVER marry an Italian. I've seen too many "throwing hands". I'd rather fight a dude, they're not as tough.

There was a documentary years on pheromones that concluded that the many perfumed products our culture uses, masked natural pheromones, therefore it would not be impossible to be attracted to a close relative. As has been stated here in the comments and on this particular documentary a lot of these examples are from isolated communities or done deliberately to keep a particular family line. However in royal families or wealthy families in the not too distant past, used perfumes to cover their own stench because they didn't wash very often
