There’s an advantage to the yellowhammer setup blocks if you live in the southern US (or anywhere with high humidity). Those spongy storage slots keep out the moisture. Too many manufacturers don’t plan for their tools to be stored in 115 degrees temperature and 80% humidity all summer.

I made my own bench cookies using empty dip cans, concrete and flex seal. I put mineral oil in the dip cans, filled them with concrete. I popped the concrete out after it dried them paint the cookie with flex seal. You can also tack a roofing nail in the center of the can upside down and then when you're done you have a little spike sticking up to help with finishes.

Kreg setup blocks. A set of several blocks to almost do the job of a single adjustable height gauge. Which will cover all the heights, not just a selection. And do it in both Metric and Imperial, fractional or decimal. Giving you seven heights instead of any, at ~ twice the price. Great idea... And it digital height gauge will also replace your brass setup blocks. Gripping bits to change bearing- just use your router. It is going in there anyway. Rockler gauge- once again, the height gauge will do all of this. Please be honest- if you are doing a sales video then say so.

First, I want to say I love your videos. Second, I’ve gotten some great ideas from you, so THANK YOU. I know you’re a Christian, please keep my family in prayer. My mother is totally disabled and after my father passed away in ‘21 I became her sole caregiver as well as of my son who is autistic. As a single dad and only child, this has taken a toll on our family financially. I had to quit work to stay home and care for them, now 8m doing crafts to sell from home. It’s hard because I have my own health problems and I don’t have a shop. I was using a 30 foot party tent as a shop, but sadly this past Sunday it was damaged in a pop up storm. Now I’m back to nothing but my tools. Pray I can get something for shelter while I’m working, because of health, I’m limited on outdoor activities without shade. I don’t have a lot of tools, but I do what I can with what I have. I’d love to see some videos on using a job site table saw to create a good edge when you don’t have a jointer. Also, can you recommend some basic power planers? I can’t afford a bench top planer, but I was thinking something handheld.

Hi Matt, I always appreciate your videos as you provide not only best in class suggestions, but alternatives that are either just as good at a lower cost, or something that will get the basic job done and be just as accurate also at a lower cost, but may not have all the features as higher priced items do. Bravo!!! I find your approach allows those just entering the hobby (or on a budget) to do so getting excellent results while finding out if the hobby is right for them, or letting those on a budget to progress many finding their way to higher end tools as they begin to appreciate how some of the small things can help. When it comes to routers got a couple of suggestions for future videos... * A rundown of circle cutting jigs. Three that come to mind are from Milescraft, Jasper, Powertec to name a few. If various brands (Dewalt, Festool, ...) have something might be good to through those into the ring as well. Even the buying vs making your own might be included. * Perhaps a review of first party and third party dust collection attachments would be great, as routers produce a great deal of dust and chips. I'm talking about the plastic pieces that place suction near the router bit and direct the dust/chips, not the vacuum itself. Are third party attachments worth it? (both of the above might be enough for you to get a Festool router, as based on my reading Festool is the gold standard ;) And, I can't help but wonder if higher end solutions for edge guides and circle cutting and such are worth the price, Micro Fence comes to mind, but I suspect others are around. Also, perhaps a rundown of some specialty jigs for router, as I see something very useful on AliExpress is a Adjustable Precision Router Template Guide. I can go on and keep you busy for quite a while :) Again, really appreciate your work and your commitment to providing alternatives.

Complete respect to a alpha man (like myself mind you) who knows what he's doing, but it's Bosch "1617" only, for a big/heavy mid-sized Router under 3 amps. Just installed a couple of doors that use Soss Invisible hinges, for a client..... Router worked like a charm, as always. Brass Bushings only when installing doors with fresh Jambs from scratch...... brass retains heat better than any metal and a bearing-less straight bit, cutting out Poplar or Maple builds up a lot of heat...... if you're not using Brass Bushings, then you're not at a "custom" installer/woodworker level. Dimar Guide Bushings. Canadian brand, I'm up here ion Canada....... we don't know much up here but we know wood...... check out Dimar. Best Forstner bits, they're the only saw blades (chop/table/track-saw) I use.... countersinks and drill/tapered bits, only Dimar. Humble Canadian brand I'm telling you
