Something not mentioned, but absolutely essential, are a pair of slippers. Of course not for outside, but inside your house. They shield your feet from the colder, badly insulated floor, prevent your feet and socks to become dirty and if you have guests, you appear more presentable.

Jeff, loafers seem to go with everything, and what i like to wear, but sometimes lace ups fit better. Loafers feel a little tight for me in the instep. I notice that wearing a nice shoe makes anything you wear look better.

LIKE the Philly Cap and Sweater love dress boots or chukka Boot since mid 90s wear with Dress pants or jeans and yes Black Oxford tie up and monk strap I love I remember especially The 8os and 90s almost round toe Georgio Brutini loafer wore and love The white minimal sneaker also especially for fall dark minimal seake nevervgotinto the Broug still classy good stuff I have flat feet sandals feels like walking on tbe ground

Your suggestions are always spot on, but those of us in warmer climes ( Ca & Az) don't delve that heavily into the "boot game" as they are too warm. Finally, aesthetically most sandals make the hair on my neck rise (including the ones you pictured). JMHO They look like tourist wear or your old, crazy uncle at the cookout. Would rather wear a pair of casual Cole Haan slip-ons w/o socks.

I really love the Allen Edmunds Dalton in Chill. They are brogued dress boots that will work in many situations. I really like plan toe derbies, and I've liked them since I was in the Army . These are essentially military low quarters. Everything being equal, they are slightly less formal than a similar oxford. This is because of the Blucher lacing. Yes, monk straps are an essential. I personally associate them with some really horrible people from my childhood. I won't wear them. Chukka and loafers are great for most folks. Just finding a pair that will fit my 13A feet hasn't happened.

I would add cowboy boots. But I’m from Texas. Cowboy boots are to Texas what timberlands are to NYC!!! But unlike Tims the cowboy boot can be dressed up and down easy.

I would recommend a good year welted boot. That way when the soles wear down, it can be resoled. Look towards british brands. They have a rich history and amazing boots at every pricepoint. Loake 1880, Barker, Crockett & Jones, Edward Green, and John Lobb comes to mind.

I've never found an Oxford that was comfortable to wear. I wore a pair of Derbys at my wedding, nobody could tell the difference. I refuse to wear a loafer. I agree with everything else. A grown man should also have a pair of casual, rugged boots like a Redwing Iron Ranger or Moc Toe

No sandals please. Instead have espadrilles, there are ones in punched leather for max breathability. Castaner brand, pablo fierced model. Or can have loafers in also punched suede leather. Can even have suede punched leather oxfords etc for summer if thats your thing.
