@Marisol M WARNING: [Please if you prefer understanding what I said and making sure your not misinterpreting what I said please read the entire comment or read it twice to make sure. Since this is a pretty long comment.] Or it means the person has self doubt because they are self aware of their lack of intellect. Or it's the other way around since just, because ones intelligent doesn't mean they are good at self awareness. If one doubts their intellect it's, because they know their intellectual flaws so they assume they aren't that intelligent. If one lacks self awareness, but is intelligent they may doubt their intellect, because they don't want to make assumptions about themselves when they don't know much about themselves. After all most intelligent people tend to do to much learning about THINGS rather than PEOPLE. So they might not be that self aware about themselves. Since weirdly enough learning more about others helps one learn more about themselves. So if you don't do enough socialising you won't understand yourself that well. Unless you do constant self reflection, which I am not 100% sure that would always work out for a person. Since you need more than self reflection to help understand yourself. Since you need to be able to look at other perspectives to further your understanding of yourself. Therefore you still need social interaction. Since most intelligent people are introverted or socially awkward this generally causes problems with the person's self awareness. Though this is not taking into account other things that might be able to by pass all that. Another thing to consider is that this video lists traits that MOST intelligent people have. Their is bound to be abnormality. Like extravert geniuses do exist. There is also the fact that plenty of people have these traits that are listed in the video, but are not geniuses. Most geniuses are introverts, but most introverts are not geniuses.

@Marisol M This is not true. Highly intelligent people rarely lack confidence in their general intelligence, instead they lack confidence in any specific opinion. Understanding that hidden facets of a construct can radically change ones understanding and opinion. Highly intelligent people see and and understand that that any equation which represents a real life phenomenon is going to be immensely complex making high levels of confidence in any specific model irrational.

omg... I totally relate to that.... I don't have many friends and I feel very guilty at the fact I'm too selective about people. Honestly, having to know more things than others is a real curse. There are some times I think of this as a curse because no one understands you at all, and it's hard to state all of your thoughts out loud, because there are too many of them. I wish I had OP ways of speaking and I wish I could think less carefully about what I'm about to say. Heck, I'm thinking about what I should say not to be offensive or degrading in anyway right now. Honestly, people out there who want to know more... Sometimes, knowledge is a curse that makes you very, very, very depressed. (once you know how the world and people are, you truly value wholesome moments for what they are)

Indeed. Especially with “neurotypicals”: depending on the country, they are either fairly logical or absolutely absurd when it comes to interaction, with figments like “unwritten rules” that they can’t even define themselves, or using very watered down terms to speak about matters of a serious nature because the truth is too bold for their little minds to handle. I could continue into a full-on rant about this, but that would be a touch long winded for a comment.

My emotional intelligence has skyrocketed in the last 2-3 years from journaling, and paying more attention to my feelings (perhaps too much (paralysis by analysis lol)). “The problem is that idiots are full of confidence, and the intelligent are full of doubt.”
@ManyArmedMooseDeiАй бұрын
Indeed. The key with intelligence is, I’ve found, to not let one’s questioning get so far that one begins to second guess and onverthink too far, but to not let it be so low one blindly or impulsively goes along with anything. Being smart means being questioning, and questioning tends to turn on oneself at times, leading one to imposter syndrome and the like. Whereas the Dunning-Kruger effect runs rampant in some parts.

@Fallon Waye you can find happiness- before you find awareness. If you're not aware you arent aware of who knows what, whats not to be happy about? Life would be exceedingly more simple and easy to understand. And how can you truly feel entitled to tell someone else their happiness is wrong or incorrect? I think i just argued in defense of science deniers but 🤷
@solonada96022 жыл бұрын
The connotations of ignorance are always negative. Even if ignorant people tend to be happier, it doesn't mean that their lifestyle is more practical than the one of those who are aware of the harsh side of the world. The more knowledge you accumulate, the more benefits it rewards - because with more knowledge, navigating around the world becomes easier; your life becomes generally better. It is better to search for the flaws of something, rather than only watching its positive side.
@edasencalis17644 ай бұрын
"Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people." I appreciate the quote. The thing is, we also need to talk about people and events even if we prefer talking about ideas because learning about what is going on in your small circle, school, workplace, and city... is a way to gather data on the outside world, no doubt the smart people love all kinds of information and data. This awareness is also crucial for making informed decisions and understanding the context in which we live. Everyone gets bored of small talk at some point;). Still, exchanging small talk is better than non-engaging with people (like sticking your mind to books, and studies), because we all crave some sort of communication for better or for worse. I think every small talk is an opportunity to add a tool to your skill set. The stories you wouldn't consider worth telling may teach you something. Not to forget, the " Gossiping" is actually an evolutionary concept. Discussing people helped early humans form alliances, identify threats, and build cohesive communities. I am not saying you should talk badly behind people, but when someone tells you things, try not to be bored with the facts and analyze the situation. Try to understand why they gave you that random piece of info at that very moment. Life gets less boring, and people become more interesting. All of this to say, talking about ideas might be seen as the hallmark of great minds, but as long as you do not want to live in a thought bubble, you need all kinds of people around you to help you improve yourself and find the network to excel in your path. Discussing ideas, events, and people is equally important in creating a well-rounded and informed individual. Embracing all types of conversations can lead to intellectual stimulation, practical knowledge, and strong social networks. This balanced approach not only enriches personal growth but also enhances one’s ability to navigate and contribute to the world effectively.

It's a good description of a highly intelligent person who happens to be an analytical introvert with social anxiety, it's also a good description of an analytical introvert with social anxiety that has a normal or even below average level of intelligence. This is far from the only archetype for intelligence.

I would say that there is truth to this, but not from every angle ;) I can only talk about research in Germany, but look up Prof. Rost and his research on giftedness. It is a huge, ongoing research project on the development of gifted children (defined as IQ of 130 or more) and found, among other things, that giftedness is a contributing factor of resilience. Many gifted children are better adjusted, better at making friends and less likely to be thrown off balance emotionally than their peers. The struggles described in this video, however, do exist as well

Why would you hope for that ? We want people to think they are intelligent and we want them to be incorrect but think they are correct this makes it easier for us actual intelligent people who suffer these drones daily the opportunity to utilise these NPC characters to our benefit and make profits and build and innovate while they are distracted by things that we imply or teach them is important or is worth something , happiness for example , they think they need this or that it’s actually real or something that can be attained lol , the clever part is you just dangle something and say this will make you happy or show them another drone claiming to be happy and get them to smile because we told them smiling means happy , and boom they buy it , but it’s a double edged sword see even though happiness is just a concept and not a tangible proven or sustainable thing or feeling that doesn’t mean it can’t be attained. If they believe this house or car or clothes will make them happy then they will make themselves happy to the best their brain can be it , now this doesn’t last long because humans are better at suffering and hardship and adversity it’s why our species is the dominant species we are worse than cockroaches, you can try and drown and your body will automatically try to survive even better example is a drowning person will drown another person in order to survive without even thinking twice the instincts just kick in and it’s auto mode . So what we do is we let purchase our happy products then we get their influences to demonstrate they don’t bring happiness anymore which they don’t for long anyways because being happy is boring . Best idea was a pandemic , i didn’t buy into the danger of it but u thrived i the fear of society , watching these idiots buy all the toilet paper and show the true nature of humans when it’s do or die they always pick themselves over others it’s only later they will be kind to others and share things etc onl after they have seen someone else do it which is why they panic buying stupid shit in the first place , I could go on forever but I forgot what I was talking about because I’m looking at my memories of these idiots haha omg but yeah don’t go educating people please I need them dumb so I can exploit them , cheers

(burp) Moooorty . tbh a smart person shouldn't have a hard time communicating with anyone because they're smart enough to recognize how other people communicate and match their level effectively. The "smart people hate small talk" thing immediately throws me off because small talk is a great way to get to know someone and communicate with very low stakes. To imply that "smart people" only want to talk about high-concept, complicated shit is stupid. I love debate and media analysis and high-concept stuff, but it gets exhausting. Talking about the weather or a something "unimportant" is easy. It's like saying "talented baseball players don't want to just play catch" or something. Of course they do. Shoot.
@tinkerbelle13174 жыл бұрын
M-K-L i don‘t agree with that statement. Actually, highly intelligent people have a hard time communicating with other people, because they usually have other mannerisms and interests. Thats why gifted students are often bullied in school, apart from the jealousy. Being socially intelligent isn’t the same as being highly intelligent 🤷♀️
@maanokay25534 жыл бұрын
Tinker Belle “gifted students are bullied in school” is exactly the kind of generalization that causes this misunderstanding. It isn’t even necessarily accurate. As a socially anxious gifted student who was never bullied in school, I feel the need to voice that this correlation between intelligence and social ineptitude is complete bologna. There are confident smarties. There are shy dummies. It’s never as black and white as many like to think.

@Ghostwatcher19234 жыл бұрын
And that the smart people are outnumbered by the fools, this world is not made for highly intelligent people. If you are not socially educated/integrated then you got massive problems to get into an habitat where you can use your intelligence properly. social inequality and an unleashed misanthropic capitalism are the roots of most of individual struggles with what this clip framed so nice as "social awkwardness". What got this in common with the COVID-19? The consequence of the virus is, that the virus works as an catalyst. In lesser time, as without this nasty little boy, we will see worldwide the issues in "our" system. And IF we are smart enough (or if the smart people are loud enough) than we got perhaps a chance to fix our problems. And the virus is the less important problem we got. @@user-unknown173 And yes, that is absolutely correct. The smarter you are, the more you view of the world. Including the uglier sides of things. That can really affect one's mental state. I have noticed this, myself. I try my best to stay optimistic, but sometimes I just get pessimistic and think the world is just a repetitive pattern of people making the same mistakes over and over and there is nothing I can do to change it. Then I stop to think: "I CAN". Every little bit helps. Giving just a little bit of hope to another person can already mean the world to someone. So that is what I do, now. I agree with what you say for many people, but I think it also plays a huge role how u get raised. Many high intelligent people behave like that even in their childhood. Also, many people with high iq also have the asperger syndrome, which is actually the main cause for these social problems. I think that if you're one of the people who don't have the asperger syndrome and are raised well, they can live very good in society. I have an iq of 145, I experienced that on my own. It sounds pretty sad, but people with high intelligence have to learn to "level themselves down" to the level of other people. As you can learn basically everything better the younger you are, same goes for levelling yourself down. I mean at the end there are dozens of people who aren't high intelligent, we have to learn how to live on their world if we wanna live their too. When speaking to a therapist, councilor or close friend I never feel they can gauge how serious an issue is to me because I am able to articulate my feelings on the topic so well. I do feel being that aware of your feelings about a certain issue is a big first step in improving mental health. However, just because you are emotionally intelligent enough to recognize your in pain doesn’t mean you are equipped with the tools to solve it on your own.

Yes. This. All day. I had a therapist tell me not long ago that I can't possibly have ADHD because I'm too smart. And when I'm able to analyze and articulate my feelings of depression, anxiety, etc. they look at me like I'm just there trying to score drugs or, as one person said to me, am just overly sensitive and "feel things too much." I've switched therapists a couple of times looking for a better fit. I spoke with one recently about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help with my day-to-day ADHD struggles but, because I was able to talk about it intelligently, she said, "I don't know why you're here. What is it you want me to do?" I stopped seeking help after that one and am now just trying to brute force my way through. I've considered finding another doctor and dumbing it down when I'm there but, tbh, I don't want to spend the next couple of years with them just throwing antidepressants at me while they try to figure out the symptoms I'm already exquisitely aware of. I'm just hoping to find one that understands you can be intelligent AND struggling at the same time.
