I do ice swiming. I have to say that the last scene put chills down my spine. It is not like they will get to go some nice warm place right after that crossing.
@TrenchDiaries17 сағат бұрын
Yes, the swim is just part of it. Getting dry and warm afterwards must have been quite the struggle.

I crossed a snow melt river when I was 15 in Idaho. Wow! You can get into hypothermia very fast.
@TrenchDiaries17 сағат бұрын
Extremely fast. You can also overexert yourself extremely fast as well.

Tough way to loose his crewman , I can’t imagine making that swim ! But being captured was definitely out of the question! Great chapter ! Catch you on the next one ⚓️⚓️⚓️

Thank you Ron. I think most people would have chosen the river over captivity 🫡

The more I learn the more the war looks like a slave revolt to me.

Sauna, then rolling in snow and sauna again. After that driving an airplane on a road with traffic, ending having a 600yards icebath -I really like this guy!! Thanks Jay!!

The memoir makes it clear he was an utterly unrepentant Nazi.

Theres a interview about 2.5hrs long on you tube with one of Rudels Commanders Heniz Georg Migold. Its well worth a listen, Rudel isn't in it much and the opinion of Migold and other comrades provide a interesting counter to this memoir.

I will check it out, thank you for the recommendation!

There you go kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqmnnKJ_i8ikbNEsi=b9aYWxu2Q40yyOKA I think you with thoroughly enjoy it. Its a bit of a shame its in English as hes a quintessential Prussian and i suspect some of the nuance is lost in translation...

A very empathy invoking story, beautifully read, writen by a former enemy and aggressor.

G'day, 600 metres of flooding Snow-melt...? That's an amazing effort..., but then jumping back in to play Lifesaver is bordering on the incredible. Was this feat witnessed, or is it the story as told by Rudel - talking as a Sole Survivor of the event ? Could he have recounted what he wished that he'd tried to do ? Speaking as a retired RGN with a bit of formal training in the manifestations and treatment of Hypothermia...; people who're frozen almost unto death percieve and think all manner of things at the time, & afterwards as they look back on it. Did the other two rescued Aircrew recover, and corroborate the account of Diving back in to try for a Rescue...? That would be good to know. Such is life, Have a good one..... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao

TY J 🙏🙏. His friends ending was just another caused by Hitler's ambitions, but at least the war was another day closer to ending & peace.

I can't believe he decided to land by the other plane! His bad judgement lost both planes and 1 man. He would have been better off leaving the others there.
@TrenchDiaries26 минут бұрын
No one gets left behind. Planes can be replaced, pilots are infinitely more valuable.
