Good ideas. I retired at 53.5 - travellled months... Went to seminary for 3.5 years.. graduated last year and serve God actively thru church - guess this is my semi retirement tho I declined compensation. I still travel periodically on weekdays. Only thing I didn't do is regular exercise!

Good sharing Jonathan. Can share more numbers regarding finance - how much do you spend per month now and how much did you feel is the min before you retired?

Josh, excellent video. Thanks. I've retired at age 65 in 2019. I know many in my age group did not even prepare a spreadsheet to know their networth. Of course, many are shy to show their liquid monthly figures available up to age 80, 85. Very important is to keep the brain active - reading, thinking, solving problems, appreciating nature etc. Solving one very hard Sudoku is for me.

Thanks. I retired young at age 35. You have good points. All are so relevant. I'm learning from experts like you to have a great retirement. I'm lazy to exercise but I agree with you. After exercising, I feel much better. I have a dog, I own a charity and I teach online language classes for brain stimulation.

Also, expenditure over the past 2 years has been very low (for us) Zero travel, restaurants closed etc etc. Also, we got rid of the car years ago because it was an almost pointless asset where we live (in a big city).Of course not everyone wants to live thus, but certainly shows that life need not be as expensive as many perhaps think....

I've retired 10 years ago when I was 60 (compulsory) and I didn't bother to look for any part time job because I don't even have enough time to use now. I enjoy some hobbies and meeting good friends now and then to enjoy a meal or chit chat. Daily chores include exercising , house chores and shopping. I have short siesta daily. I can still drive and go to places I like because Malaysia is big enough for me to enjoy the nature. Time is limited and I don't believe in working because I don't have the luxury of time like the younger ones. However, I love learning new things from KZbin, especially investing. That's why I love watching your investment tips. I enjoy life and intend to travel again when there are fewer restrictions in future. I have no financial worries and my health is still good. I know many elderly Singaporeans still do manual work. I wonder if they enjoy the work or work because they don't have enough money. I'm lucky I don't have to do such work.

I don't know why people even retirees like to ask how I spend my time during retirement. I don't have time to feel bore at all. Exercise, spending time with friends and loved ones, educating myself with financial information, tracking & accounting for my investment, hunting where to eat healthily with occasional indulgences. Freedom to do what you like and time really fly. I am still trying to find time to watch the world go by which can be fun.

Recently there is a video by CPF - avoid the taboo topic like financial issues and it's the usual so much about nothing.
@robertdagge2003 жыл бұрын
Good video thanks. The photos are of people who are quite old - actually, I know retired and semi retired people in their 40's and 50's. I even met one fully retired guy in his late 30's. Seems to be a relatively new and popular thing - people are tired of work/the office culture/ nine to seven etc., have a bit of money saved up and just stop employment, to do what they want while they physically still can (or at least stop doing what they no longer want to do). I have also met many people who are wealthy but continue working simply because they don't know what else to do.

SGP is still very elder unfriendly in job market. Lots of hollow talks of treasuring elderly workers, but execution on the ground entirely different matter. Only 4 jobs are readily available anytime. Security guards, pte hirers, food delivery, cleaners. Once potential employers see the age, the figure obliterates everything else!

my take is it depends if the senior person can add value to the company or not and has all the right attributes and mindset. I had a senior FC that retired at 50 but the CEO wanted him to stay on as a consultant on similar pay package because the CEO knows he adds value to the company. Some senior people take the liberty that they contributed 10-20 years back to the company and no longer add value or update themselves to stay relevant. It really matters in the attitude of seniors if they can keep themselves updated and continue to contribute positively to the business like my senior FC or just rely on past achievements and stagnate.

@@superjames3556 very well said. It really depends on value to organization. I do know of someone employed now back at age64 on contract but still at a high pay

Good video. But something else you missed. Find out what is the meaning of life. All the above you ‘ve mentioned belong to the outer life. But somethng is missing, the inner life. But I can understand, very few people knew there is such a life in the first place. The outer life is the life of the material, while the inner life is the life of the spiritual. In the context of Singapore, being so modern and sophisticated, the inner life is very under valued or known. The inner life is a life of meditation and prayer. It’s not quite the same as a religious life, though. While a religious life is mostly concentrated on any one religion, Spirituality is more universal on its outlook on God and the values of human goodness. It has a more holistic approach as compared to religion. This is something most people in Singapore do not know. You mentioned self-compassion and gratitude. That’s part of spirituality. But you did not mentioned God. God is not within religious context. It is actually beyond any one religion. But, like i mentioned, people don't usually interested to understand or talk about such things. Most people don't even knew such things exist. The foundation of compassion and gratitude is actually God or Truth. So as all the spiritual values such as peace, light, forgiveness, etc. All these values are rooted in God, which are universal beyond any one religion. Anyway, my point is this: Death is inevitable. Getting to be closer to God before your death is better than after death. The whole meaning of life is to be closer to God. Some, like me believe that this is not the only life. There is such a thing as reincarnation. We will be reborn into this world again. Our future life really depends on how close you are to God. The closer we get ourselves to God, the better will be the conditions of our future lifetime. I’d encouraged people to read books written by an enlightened master named Sri Chinmoy who was alive during our lifetime (1931 to 2007). He had written 1,600 books which are available in book depository website. He led meditations at the UN for 37 years, from 1970 till his demise in 2007. I am not interested in converting anyone to become his students. Please don't get me wrong. The purpose of life is to achieve peace on earth. But world peace fully depends on the cultivation of human beings. Every little thing that we do such as prayer and meditation will help humanity to be closer to this eventual goal. I started meditation 28 years ago with Sri Chinmoy. It has been my most amazing experience. I have had 4 near-missed car accidents. I believed my spiritual life protected me. I have seen real miracles. I know God really do exist, from my own life experiences.

Our body will expire one day, but our souls never die. They will go on living, so get prepared while you still can, before your body collapses...on you. So don’t just plan for your retirement, plan for your next life, while you still can.
@64ytb2 жыл бұрын
When you return back to God, God is not going to ask you how many millions you made, He is only interested to know what good you have done for humanity and for Him. Most people only want blessings from God, but very few want to serve God. Climate change is a good example.
