I got sick of sliding my mower deck in and out too. Now I only use my loader to install and remove it. Drive up to your mower deck until the front tires touch it then point the bucket down in almost full dump position and lift the front up until the tires will clear the deck. Roll it back, lower back down and install as normal. To remove, unhook all linkages, lift front end with loader, roll deck forward and resume the rest of your day.

@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead *First, THANK YOU for this great video! We finally had enough of the nonsense, and moved in to an extremely rural home (as in 2 months ago). We **_definitely_** made the right decision, but the learning curve is much higher than I expected - the tractor has ben the most difficult. Our place came with a 1994 AGCO-Allis, which I have been able to figure out is closest to the Kubota series of garden tractors, so I'm looking at every video I can find to learn what I can. If the thing hadn't come with the extreme low use (less than 900 hours), and in such amazing condition (except for the seat, it looks nearly new), I would likely have sold it and shopped for a more modern machine, but saving all of that money is really important right now (between the purchase and the move of several hundred miles), so I've decided that learning about this machine and keeping it is a better plan than buying a newer (or actually new) model and dumping more of that scarce cash; your video was a **_really_** good overview of this device, and I am **_genuinely_** grateful for you posting it!* *If you take "requests", I'm looking for a good operating tutorial, as the transmission is making me crazy in short order :-/ I've got more than a million miles as a car driver, but the experience is so **_completely_** different on a tractor, that I am a little scared of it every time I turn it on. We bought a place with a little over an acre of very hilly back yard, so driving over it on a machine I'm uncomfortable with can be a draining experience - your overview helped a LOT more than you probably think, so I am grateful for the great video! I'm subbed, and will start working my way through your "catalog" today!*

Just ran across your video and I'd lie to share some of the things I've done with mine. First I bought it in late 2016. It's a 25D. I'll address each issue as I see it. Never had an issue with cutting front tires. I have had an issue with them coming off the rim because I failed to diligently keep an eye on the pressure. They are such low profile I never realize they were low until they are rolling off the rim. I've ruined 2 tires so far but hopefully have learned my lesson by now. I agree with the mid deck. it is a pain in the ass however much I've read about the drive on, they are a hit and miss too. My solution was to replace my small zero turn mower with a 60" commercial grade zero turn. They are way better and faster at mowing. I sold my mid deck which solved that problem. As far as the backhoe, I've dug up a few trenches and at least 40 tree stumps. I love it. I made a roll around carriage for it so when I unload it, I can roll it in the corner out of the way. Also makes it easy to hook back up when you can move it around easily. To address the rops height, after running into a few things, I bought one of those skinny fiberglass mast they sell for bicycles with the little flag on top. I mounted it on the floor right against the left loader bracket and cut it 1" taller than the rops. It is now in front of me and it will hit/scrape anything not tall enough for the rops. It has saved me several times. I dont switch between the 3pt and backhoe as much as you so I really dont have much issue with the 3 pt. As a matter of fact I made a bracket for the 3 pt which as a 250lb weight, 2 holders for a shovel and rake, a good size tool box mounted on the top, and a power inverter mounted on the tool box. These days that pretty much is on 75% of the time. I dont think I've ever used mine at night so I can't comment on the lighting. Lastly since I dont have a mid mower I installed one of those skid plates from BXPanded. A very nice piece. Easy to take on and off if you still want to use the mid mower. To bad I can upload a few pictures. Might give you a better idea. Like you said, despite all the little drawbacks, it is a work horse and I'll go before it does.

I agree with all your complaints about the BX 1880. I cut my roll bar down. Yes i understand that it will be addressed on the day I sell it. I added 2 off road lights on the front and the back and at my feet. I cut grass after sundown because it’s cooler temperature. But that pesky mower deck. Boy oh boy. Use lynch pins in the anti scalp wheel shafts then you can turn them easier. Also lift the tractor with the bucket and outriggers just a bit and the MMM slips right out or in. And it makes it easier to hook up the mid PTO because you have more room. I don't have trouble with the MMM and I'm a month shy of 70 yrs old. I also use a 2 X4 to push it out so I don't have to get out of my wheelchair.

To remember to lower the Rops, I have a roll of ‘bird tape’ shiny red/silver streamer to tie in trees to scare birds away. I cut long streamers and tape the ends on inside of my garage door, when I open the garage door the tape hangs down and blows in the wind, giving me a warning to stop and let the Rops down. When garage door is down, the streamers are not in the way. Works great and only $2.00.

I have a BX24D. I am 76, and yes, pulling the deck out each year is a pain, but I still manage it. Not going to pay for a "roll over" model! I love my BX, and it does great mowing, I have hilly ground, and locking the 4 wheel it will climb a mountain! Good video, but some of your complaints were things of your own doing. I removed the top of my ROPS, might be dumb, but I got tired of running into tree branches. Don't need to carry a bunch of tools, only have 6 acres to care for. Be careful of where you drive, and don't wreck your tires, or fan. I have had my BX since 2005. Now for the complaints. I have a major problem with sputtering and stalling, even though I have drained and flushed the fuel tank, replaced both fuel filters, fuel pump, and solenoid . 950 hours, and I think the next step will be to replace the injectors. Don't have any more answers. Fuel is clean, run it in my wife's GR2100 diesel, and she has no problems. Only other complaint is a lack of qualified Kubota mechanics available here in the mid west.

Great video. Thanks for taking the time. I love my BX23-s as well. I have the drive over deck and I don't think it is any easier. My biggest complaint would be how difficult it is to swing the seat around to use the hoe. The seat barely clears the rops and if you are clearing a bunch of brush stumps really adds time to the job. On smaller digs I don't even swing it around but reach over the back of the seat.

2020 BX23S owner. I am not using mine with the same hours as you, but. . . I have the ride over mover deck, and the only thing easy is in the name. If you dont have it on flat, level, concrete you will have problems. Most of the time i need a second person to hold it from getting pushed forward when i try to drive over it. I have also found out it is mostly a finishing deck, so not great for field cutting. So i have overheating issues that extend the amount of time it takes to cut the grass. Popped a wheelie once bringing it back and forgetting the bar was up. Moving the seat to use the back hoe is a pain. The tractor is a beast though. Grading, fertilizing, snow removal, and a bunch of stuff i havent done yet, but will in the future, super happy with it.

Mid mount mower installation issue: I use a tow strap to install and remove the deck. The hooks on my strap do not have safety latches. The inner diameter of the hook closely matches the od of the metal rod of the scalping wheels. Once everything is disconnected, I put the hooks on, step into the loop (facing the tractor) and lay it across my lower back/hips. I then walk/push backwards dragging it out and use my hands to direct where I’m applying the pull while working the deck around the wheels. To reinstall it I pull the tractor beside the deck and throw the hooks under the tractor and drag it back through from the side of the tractor opposite the deck. I do this on gravel and it still works. You of course still have to make the final adjustments on your knees or bent over but at least most of the dragging can be done standing upright. I hope this helps. Thanks for the video.

That is a pretty good solution. I’ve since learned how to reach over the deck with the FEL and raise the front tires up in the air so I can roll the deck straight back. This has become my new method of installation. Takes a little practice. Overall it works well.

Specs from Kubota say it weighs about 250 and it’s a beast to deal with on your own. Hookup is a real pain but something that helps a little with the mid pto collar is you can pull that latch back and it will actually lock in the open position so you can get a little feedback once you slide the shaft back on properly-that click back into place helps. Im going to modify a 2 wheel dolly or appliance dolly to become my deck dolly for when i get it slid out from under the machine so you can move it around easier Mounted a toolbox on the ROPS using the 2 bolt holes on either side of the ROPS

As far as tool boxes go I mounted a cheap metal Harbor Freight one on the left side of the tractor where the ROPS goes. I removed my ROPS because it was an issue. One was when I first got the tractor I did a wheelie and slammed back down when my ROPS caught a large branch. I am surprised nothing broke. Removing your Rops is probably the biggest risk you can take, you can’t cut it down as it is engineered to specification for your machine. If you hit a tree branch you can hardly blame the machine, that’s operator error. I don’t need to tell you what the consequences are if you roll the machine and Rops uninstalled. Add no seat belt and you probably won’t get to read this comment, ever.

I am with you on Quick Hitch and mower PTO being a pain. And my first question was why dont they at least give us somewhere to put a toolbox? I am trying to figure out how to attach one to the ROPS. I replaced those key rings too with better pins. I would add that its a pain having to raise the mower fully before you can adjust the height limit on it. I went for the full tractor tires for best traction and as long as you dont turn aggressively with the power on full, they dont damage any grass. And I too would buy another in a heart beat..

I settled the light issue with LEDS on the ROP front and back. The storage is in an ammo box on the ROP, like every one else. The front tires are not designed for really rough terrain. My local HE tire shop have told me that. They recommend a better sidewall tire, which they can order for me. And YES I should have bought this tractor a few years ago. Take care and stay safe. I have a 2005, same as you I bought the floor model in 2006. It's got 500+ hours so far with no major complaints about the functions. The 3pt hitch? I have a backhoe and never take it off, so that's not a problem. the backhoe footwells are also a good place to put tools. The ROPS? Mine might be a little lower because I can get into my garage with a less than 8 foot door. The lights I agree. I usually have the bucket up above the lights so I can see, but then it's right in my line of sight. One complaint I have is they loaded the tires with a sodium solution at the dealer. Within 7-8 years BOTH rear rims rotted out from the inside. Luckily the fronts have both gone flat at times and that solution leaked out long ago. You might get lucky because i hear they don't use that anymore. Right now it won't start and I think I have a safety switch problem. Which is what brought me here.

If you think that BX23s is hard to swap the mower deck on/off, you haven`t tried it on a John Deere 420. With the JD420 & 430, you have to jack the front of the tractor up real high to get the deck out from under it. And the JD deck is alot heavier than a BX deck. We still use the JD420 for mowing to this day, so the deck stays on it. Our BX23s is a far easier tractor to take the deck on/off/on. Use your frontend loader. Pick tractor up, roll deck under.

There is a decent BXpanded options for an ammo case mount, that attached to the ROPs bar. No storage is a big one for me. And there just isn't many good places to add a box that isn't in the way in some fashion. One of the other things that bugs me is the stabilizers being on the inside of the arms. When they are on the outside, you can always attach wider implements, and you only have to loosen to attach smaller items. With the BX, you have to over loosen to load something bigger then readjust. After using both for many years, the stabilizers being on the inside are far more annoying. One other thing that bothers me, but is an accepted tradeoff, is the low trailer hitch bar. If you want to use BX for row planting in your garden, that bar completely kills your ground clearance over rows. Other than that, I love mine too.

BKT Skid Power HD 18x8.5-10 skid steer tires. The gardenmaster R4s are severely underrated for loader work. The 8 ply BKTs are literally twice as thick as the gardenmasters which results in twice the load rating. You'll likely need a specialty tire shop to mount them as the small rim and thick tire isn't something a typical tire machine can handle. I got mine on sale for around $80 each.

Agree with the front tires, no tool box, and most of all difficulty of removing the mower deck. That on its own is a big pain. Now add to that the mower deck raises and lowers with the 3pt hitch. Unless there is something I don’t know, leaving the mower deck on when you use a box blade over some really deep ruts and tough ground doesn’t seem doable. It will tear it up. So time to sing the hernia song again. Now, the worst part is that the first fuel filter is waaay under the tractor and not possible to change with the deck in place. Like another commenter said, This is a terrible location. Just horrible. Before I learned that I have to use fuel stabilizer religiously in my humid area, I had to pull the mower deck twice just to change it. Water in the fuel blocks the filter off instantly. I recently saw a third party company makes a fuel filter relocation kit. Haven’t tried it yet, but will the next time I have to change it. All in all, though, the BX23S is one of the best purchases I have made.

i BOUGHT MINE IN MARCH OF '20. iT IS A '10 MODEL. Got a lot more hrs on mine. Like 1200 and today i am changing the Trans fluid for 3rd time. I dont have a lift but i run it up on a plank on my drive held up by 4 cement blocks and then I can get under it with ease. My drive has a slop to it. Where they put the filter is just nuts. It is hard to get at. Next is the seat. All it will do is turn around. There is no adjustment to it anywhere. I'm just 5'6" tall with a 29" inseam. The seat is set for someone well over my height. Like someone over 6' with at least a 35" inseam. This means that they built this thing so that less then 29% of pop will be comfortable riding it. I have to sit well forward on the seat to reach the paddles. This makes it very tiring to run. Then there is the drive saft for the front wheels. It is open to the air and will bet stuff tangled up around it. I did this the first month I had it. It did in the front seal on that drive shaft. I had to get a new one and put it on. Big hassle. It should be in a protective shield so this will not happen. Then there are the 2 pins that hold the backhoe on. They are very hard to get ot work. I have to beat on them to get them to work. Then there is putting it back on. Takes forever to get it lined up so u can do this. Last is that little filter screen u have to take out of the back. Real hard to get out. They need to put a pull something on it so that it will come out with ease. Dont have the lawn mower b/c I collect grass and compost it for garden. I looked into buy one but they wanted 1/4 of what i paid for Tracker and I cant even move such a thing around at 76. I have a Husqvarna 42' to mow my 3 ac lawn. Even they dont make a good bagger for it. I had to get an aftermarket one what was built a lot strong after just 2 seasons. So u see even top names blow it a lot when they try to make things as cheap as they can I would be will to pay a lot more for something well made rather then the shit they make today. Btw I am a Hay farmer with beef on the side. Make most of my money selling hay to an organic dairy farm in S CA. I own 6 other trackers. All build before 1990. I bought the little BX b/c I need its backhoe. Ya I do a lot of work with the little one but I would really like it if they would come out with a new seat that will move forwards and back. I live where water, to much not to little) is problem. Got the Bx to dig drains on new land. Old land has them already Paid someone to dig them. Got tired of paying out more then the Bx cost every yr to do this. have saved over 40G's already with it.

When I had my BX2380 I could have made the same video, excellent group of gripes. Now with the LX it's actually lower than the BX even with the big tire option. Im not sure what they were thinking with that ROPS. Stay well! Mark from the Cay. 🌴👍🍻

That’s good to hear about the LX. I may be looking to step up at some point. Thanks for stopping by, Mark!

ROPS answer.... use the KISS technique (keep it simple stupid) .... just like the string that hands down for the quick release for your garage door, you simply need to hang a pool noodle (Styrofoam) horizontally from 2 pieces of string about 48 inches apart attached to the 2nd from bottom garage panel to create a warning sign to recheck your ROPS are folded down. I have the same issue only on the way in, obviously. As soon as I get out, I put them up and they stay up all day. But I forget coming back into the garage. Just make the string long enough so you can see it, but not too long that it will be an issue for your car. The pool noodle should be safe so you won't get close lined as you pull in. You just move it up over your head or go slow and let it move itself up and over your head. Use an orange noodle if you can find one.... lol. As far as the Mower deck, I'm still working on fabricating a pair of auto movers that probably will make moving it easier.

Definitely an orange noodle! Lol. That’s a good idea. 👊

Great idea as a reminder - maybe just take it on the bottom of the door (inside & out). DollarTree had noodles on an outside rack couple weeks ago. *clotheslined

Would you get the drive over mower deck if you had to do it all over again?

I don’t believe so. I’ve heard some complaints about that and I’ve figured out a decent way to install mine now.

thanks for the video! how big is your yard? I`m trying to understand if the investment is worthy for a 1.5 acres of land

I mow a couple acres. I needed the BX to maintain the other 36 acres, but using it as a lawn mower was part of my justification for pulling the trigger. There might be more cost effective ways, but in the end I just really wanted one.

Lol. I love my BX but if you’re happy with an L3901 you wouldn’t have been satisfied with a BX. 👊

First, I also hate the tiny front tires, but I never cut the sidewall, my problem is that when you really fill the loader, the tires can dig into dirt then create a slow leak because of dirt went between tire and rim, I don't use the mower, in fact I sold it, but you could change the split rings with pins plus you could also lift your front end with the bucket, makes it easier, as for the toolbox, I installed it on the ROPS, I agree the 3 points is a pain, but I do it twice a year, to put on and remove the snowblower, all the TLB have very high ROPS, imagine all the times you would forget they were lower and hit your head...lolll, and all tractors even pickups with a bucket or a blade have the same issue, I installed led bars on the ROPS for the front and also for the rear, as for the undercarriage all tractors are made a bit weak there, they should improve, what really bugs me is the front capacity, I would like to have an option of bigger cylinders, to lift more, I understand they would be slower, but that is one trade off I would be ok to live with!

I hate the quick disconnect of the bucket Hydraulic lines. It cracks and leaks. Have had to have mine replaced 3 times in 2 years so far and I have a 2019 BX18. Other then that love the tractor.

Lots of folks have that issue. I had mine replaced and it hasn’t leaked any more. I’m very meticulous now about turning the machine off and relieving the pressure before disconnect/reconnect. I hope it holds up because when it works right, I love it.
