Why is there no other kart racer with an Adventure Mode?! The use of themes for groups of tracks, while making each unique, was brilliant. And the overworld was fun to just explore, with secrets to discover all over the place! And the use of different vehicles? Brilliant!

I remember when I wanted Mario Kart 64 for Christmas and my parents got me DKR instead because "The guy at the store said it was better". I was happy to get a new game and a present but disappointed at the same time as all my friends had Mario Kart. Once I popped the game in and started I was hooked on DKR and had a blast playing it! I had some friends try it and my friends all wanted DKR and were begging their parents for it. I don't know who you are but thank you random person for suggesting this game! You were definitely right!

Loved this game as a kid! Timber was always my guy, partly because I adored tigers. And this is the first game I know of with transforming cars. Long before Sonic All-Stars did it. I think they went with hovercraft rather than boats just so you could still move it on land. And I always wondered if there was a ditched mechanic of racers being knocked out of their vehicles? I mean we see that several times in the opening where they are running back to their cars. And the deleted vehicle makes me wonder if they planned a new space vehicle for Wizpig's home tracks? I still would have loved to see the racers in tiny Arwings rather than the planes in the space levels.

One of the best parts about the the 2 Player Adventure code on was when it came to Silver Coin Challenges you could designate somebody to get them and have another guy intentionally be an enforcer to take out conventionally stronger racers so you can mess with the pole positions to ensure you could win comfortably after getting all the coins. Greenwood Village was the bane of my existence but if you made sure racers like Diddy, Pipsy, or Tiptup didn't get close to first, it was a hell of a lot easier to manage. Speaking of co-op in a Rare game, Jet Force Gemini allowing 2nd player to play as Floyd once you put him together was good fun especially since it was never bad to have somebody who had unlimited ammo and couldn't exactly die.
@jmay3089
@jmay3089 Жыл бұрын
That was such a great strategy. Me and my brother also played this way. Although me as the enforcer would simply park on the home straight or nearest red balloon collect 3 of them and then create carnage by firing 10 rockets into the oncoming pack stopping only to avoid hitting my brother. Given both of us were both young kids and not particularly fast against ultimate AI this was the only way we could win. I engineered some epic comebacks for him as his sniper team mate. Great memories

Shame that Krunch was the only character that was flat out "bad". Because the DKR tracks prioritized tight turns more then straightaways, the lightweights always had a disproportionate advantage over the heavyweights. You didn't get enough of a chance to build up speed for higher top speeds to matter, so the Pipsy and Tiptup ended up having an unfair advantage with their fast acceleration and tight turning with car races, which were the most common. Their tight turns were almost a detriment in the hovercrafts, so that's when you'd want to use someone else. All the Medium weight cahracters were broadly the same: medium enough that they were all solid. Banjo was the Viable heavyweight, as while his steering and accelartion were poorer then the lighter characters, they were usable enough that you had a chance to make use of his higher max speed. Krunch's steering is SOOO bad you needed ot use the breaks to make any turns.... and having the worst acceleration meant you were constantly slowing down. So him having the best max speed out of the original roster just didn't get a chance ot play out. And by the time you're good enough to make use of him, you've unlocked Drumstick, who's the same character but even FASTER with slightly better steering: Drumstick's steering was still BAD but still better then Krunch's. I think the game would've benefitted from making Weight have more of an impact: Heavy Characters took less to time recovery from attacks, and could knock other carts out of the weay w/o losing speed on impact, ect.

The 'timetolose' code (harder AI) really does make a big difference. When will someone finally wise up and make a DKR2? Maybe not with the exact characters and title but another racing game where you can explore, open up tracks etc... basically, a spiritual successor. With future proofing, those characters can go on ahead and star in their own games. Conker, Banjo and Diddy are in other games. Imagine if Bumper or Timber went on to have their own games! Possibilities are endless. Last thought: There is one mystery that's always bothered me. There is a music track that doesn't appear anywhere in the game, only in the music player. Was it a music that never made it in? When I was younger, I always thought I was missing a special race track or missed unlocking something.

is there a reason why this guy talks like he's AI generated?

There are two other videos on this channel that has a real man doing the voice-over work instead of an AI program.

Oh, I used red to color code the things you didn't know series. Thank you for the insight, I'll have to adjust that.

In the players guide for DKR, it lists all the cheats available, though it doesn’t list the codes you must enter to unlock them (you’re given a random code every time you win one of the Wizpig races). There’s a ‘high speed racing’ cheat, and to this day, no one knows how to unlock it. The game simply never gave the code for it.

Interesting. Would it not be the Free fruit cheat? To start with 10 banana's right away.

@@thequestgamer Turns out the cheat would have to be unlocked using a cheating device. It would make the racers be at top speed (150 mph) all the time. That would’ve been a fun code, though it’d make unlocking T.T. easy (ace the time trials).

Ah, That makes why they wouldn't include it then. Theres a video on the cheating devices planned, I'd hazard and say this month it'll come out.

Wow, there are codes for co-op multiplayer? omg, i didn't know.

Yeah, rare put a lot of the games features behind magic codes. It was a strange approach, but also I guess was their way of trying to incentivize players to replay.

@@thequestgamer Yeah, i knew about a lot of them on Conker's Bad Fur Day, to unlock stuff in the multiplayer mode, but unlocking a whole new mode is just crazy. Rare have such a trick game design philosophy it just keeps surprising me.

So I wonder why Nintendo only removed Banjo and Conker for the DS version. Maybe that their names were in game titles?
