A small bolt cutter is a must in every boat. When my cousin hooked me in the leg two weeks ago that bolt cutter allowed me to fish for three more hours before my trip to the ER. Of course the hand sanitizer, a small plastic squeeze bottle of alcohol and some toothache numbing stuff helped as well. The bolt cutters and hand sanitizer are always at hand and not in a tool kit while the alcohol and toothache stuff is in the first aid kit. The toothache medicine numbed my entry point of the hook well. Just sayn'...know whati mean?

Love your videos… one tip I would add is to attach flotation to the tool, first aid, and other emergency kits. When you need those, your usually stressed and prone to making a mistake and having a kit go overboard. And if your boat swamps/sinks your have a chance at saving your emergency kits.

For anyone interested in the MTM Ammo crate, be mindful that the ammo boxes themselves taper in at the bottom. They are not symmetrical like the boxes we all know. If using for ammo it seems like it's intended use would be ammo unpackaged and tossed into these.

Hey, real nice list. I believe in being prepared for whatever circumstance may arise so have all that you suggested already and then some. I agree with you about the Olight with the magnetic charger. Had one for years, always clipped to my pants pocket. It worked well and the battery lasted a long time on a charge but I found that when I was grinding metal, the shavings would adhere to the magnet on the base of the flashlight, making the processor do all sorts of funky things and it was a pain in the butt to try to clean metal filings off the magnet. I couldn't throw away an $85 light but when it finally wore out I did not replace it with the same type.

Good stuff! I keep enough on the boat to live on the bank for a day or two if needed. Lighters, cracker etc. My favorite is my 12v lunch box heater. I have heated meatballs in sauce to bubbling in it. And of course my butane cooker. If my boat breaks down at night and I'm stuck I'm camping somewhere.
@scottmeacham17382 жыл бұрын
I believe we can make a rope dispenser out of pvc pipe and 3 fittings. I'm pretty sure I can get rubber grommets for the threaded top to feed the rope out through it. I sold my boat to buy another kayak and now I have 4. My 12' kayak has a Lot of dry storage so I can carry all my fishin rods and a tackle bag along with a First-aid bag and a rope dispenser. That's a great idea about the lighters. I'm SO glad you used your vacuum sealer on that bearing and race. You can vacuum seal some other stuff too! The lighters, First-aid bag and tool bag can all be vacuum sealed. Just remember that anything vacuum sealed won't float so you might want to attach a pool noodle or something to float it or a lanyard to attach it. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!

The ammo boxes are neat. I created a similar set-up on my kayak using a Pepsi "Wis-Pak" plastic crate/tray (the kind used for bottled drinks). It fits three standard plastic ammo crates perfectly, and then I just run a bungee cord over the top and through their handles to secure them. Pretty sure I could hit the highway and not worry about them going anywhere.

#2 certainly resonated. Ta-day, was a good day! 😅
@Archangel_21 Жыл бұрын
That's good practice, unless a previous owner can prove when he had recently changed, just have them replaced as soon as you get the new-to-you boat. I did that because it was obvious that one had failed, but I forgot about the tires. Even though they looked to be in good condition, my eyes couldn't see the dry rot on the inside. So, while trailering said new-to-me boat home, I get a blow out on the highway. While limping off of the highway trying to make it to Walmart, I get blowout #2 on the other side. Had to drop the trailer in a residential neighborhood, make it to Walmart, and four brand new trailer tires later, I was on the road home again. So if a trailer has been in and out of the water, and ESPECIALLY if it's been sitting for a while, figure on bearings and tires.

Those electronic lighters are great for cutting braided line or anything that you need to melt and cut at the same time. I use one that's a stick style and just has one arc instead of two like yours. I use it to cut all my fishing line whether it needs to melt or not. The stick style let's you've read precise. I lived that can of rope. I've never seen it but I'm definitely gonna go find some.

Got a Bubba bottle as a gift. Best thing ever, I must have 8 or 10. The big ones certainly hold more than you think and when on sale, they run about $12. Unlike a glass thermos, it is all metal so you won't break anything. If you want cold beverage, I but the empty bottle in the freezer and then fill it up in the morning with already cold drink. The only way to go! Rope - darn right. Especially if you have one of those kind of significant others - if you know what I'm sayin :) I normally have them on all my cleats with a big carabiner clip. Great for tying off on trees when fishing, no worry about messing around with knots.

One, there's no need to keep spare bearings on the boat - in the tow vehicle is better. Two, if the cap on that thermos is hot, that's where all the heat is escaping. Pretty poor.

If you use those Ryker bags or similar, you may want to soak it oil first, if not they trap moisture & your tools will be rusty & corroded when you need them the most. I now use a plastic ammo can. They seal pretty good (depending on how cheap you go) & keep your tools dry! Not all of your hacks are for me but most all are really cool. Out of all the hacks you have come up with, the ryker bag was only one I can say was just bad. And keep your first aid kit in a small ammo can, dry bag or dry box.

Regarding charging the olight flashlight. There a couple of things you could do to charge it and not need the special magnetic charge cable. First you could buy a second battery to take with you. Second you can keep that second battery charged with a 12v 27100 battery charger on the boat. You could use one battery and have the second one on charge for if you need it.
