I am not a fan of poutine, but that version with smoked meat on St Laurent - just steps from Schwartz' deli does look appealing! So much to love in Montreal, and you seem to have a good grip on the language. It is one of my favorite cities in the world. Thank u. In NYC the monthly subway fare is $136. My train comes every 7-20 mins during rush hr. There r signal malfunctions every day. Often times, u spend $136 on a metro card, and then need to pay for an Uber b/c the train is delayed. It's very abusive. Then a billionaire leave 50 million to a cat.

The nightlife is hard to beat if you know where to go. Also, you REALLY want to learn some French and try to speak it everywhere. But you will be able to function just fine almost everywhere (unless you are trying to cruise in that nightlife) regardless of your actual level of French. The rate of bilingualism is high in Montreal, and most here speak 'some' English, with many fluent. If they see you 'trying' but having a hard time, the vast majority will switch to English. The important thing is that you try. Oh... And pot is legal in Canada.

@@mariesoto2056 Take a walk on St. Laurent, up from Sherbrook. Hang a right on Rue Prince Arthur and keep walking till you hit the park. Come back to St. Laurent and turn right to continue north. Don't miss "The Main" as you walk, which is a renowned local deli (don't let the lack of decor fool you). Keep going till you hit Duluth and hang a right. Keep going till you hit Hotel de Ville. Let your eyes take in the smorgasbord of opportunities at every step. One nearby gem you would miss on tour though is Café Santropol on the corner of Duluth and Saint Urbain, which is a longstanding delight. A breakfast/lunch diner you must know to be a proper Montrealer is Beauty's Restaurant at 93 Mont-Royal Ave.

Love going to Montreal from Toronto..Winter time in Montreal like Toronto if you live near the subway You are able to get to the underground city Which has everything you need for winter. If not It takes you closer to somewhere that has what you need One of the downsides of Montreal is in deed traffic Keeping in mind many people are traveling from the east coast to west And West to east Many of them stay in Montreal over night And view the city Old port is packed with people wanting to see alittle taste of europe with cobble stone roads The A20 is always under construction And always has a crash choking the traffic back for miles Never use it on a longweekend You will spend most of it on that highway There is a by-pass highway Which has a toll to cross it...If i did not get stuck trying to merge over I would of spent the money lol If you are a foodie This is one of the great stops ...

This is informative. Looking to relocate to Montreal from NYC. In NYC, if yr not a billionaire u can't enjoy your life. It takes an hr on the subway to get 2 miles away. I make all of my own meals, as restaurants and bars r overpriced. Also, rent is 2k-5k throughout NYC (including Staten Island, Last stop in Queens, 2 hrs into Brooklyn, the Bronx, etc). People agree to pay $1500 to have roommates. People also agree to pay 2k for apartments that r 10 min walk from the train that is always under construction and rats everywhere. I have lived here since 2001, thinking it would improve. Middle class and poor/homeless pay all the taxes, and u cannot enjoy your life. Most people evaporated during COVID. They dont tax billionaires properly. Also, if u commute in from NJ, it can cost $30 roundtrip to go to wk. Chris Christie did that. Also NYS tax, NYC tax. If u live in NJ u pay that tax as well.

'La Main' is not only good for its 'poutine' but also for great smoked meat. There is a lineup at 'Schwatrz' !? Well just cross the street to 'La Main' and have a wonderful smoked meat as good as Schwatrz or I should say even better. And you could try their 'Verenikas'. Kind of polish dumplings. Boiled or fried. I prefer the fried ones but its up to you. Have a nice tour of Montreal!

I've visited Montreal for many decades, and spent time there last month, and honestly it felt reeealllly slow, even on weekends. I had thought things would pick up after the pandemic lockdown. The tourist area was busy, but sidewalks/bars/restaurants outside of the tourist area (ie Old Montreal) were very slow. Lots of empty businesses, too, especially on Ste Catherine. I was pretty shocked how slow the Gay Village was, as I have been going there for 35 years. If you are into it, cannabis is legal in Canada, but the laws in Quebec are amongst the most restrictive in the country. You must be 21 years of age, and you have to go to a government store. Unlike other provinces, it is technically illegal to smoke it in public, but in Montreal it seems to be okay to do so.

You were excellent! Well done:)). Im a Montrealer and I want to visit those restos and neighbourhoods you hilighted:) lolol Montrealers are suffering these days...lots of poverty and healthcare woes...we need to go to restos to motivate ourselves with newness...new interior design..art..great food. Thats how we stay beautiful despite our poverty of finances. A coffee is $5 and we use our laptops for 5 hours doing our homework or contacting employers. Thank for promoting my city :'( ...:)))

Most people just come here to save on education and eventually move out to settle either in the west or the east. I can't wait for the day to graduate from McGill and drive down Highway 401/Autoroute 20-Ouest to settle in Markham, ON.
