6 months ago I bought my very first drum set. A Tama Imperial Star. I played it for about 2 weeks and then bought an ekit. No tuning required lol. I hardly touch the acoustic set anymore but I should probably spend a bit more time on that too. It came with cheap HCS cymbals. As a beginner that's good enough for me but someday if I get good enough I'll probably update them. Thanks for this

ekits are super convenient! I need to get another one that's not busted lol, but that'll be someday too. Tama makes some sick drums ! Definitely love their hardware. Thanks for watching!

My ears can't stand B8 cymbals, except for Paiste (never owned any but they sound great). Started 20+ years ago with a Sabian B8 cymbal pack, the only okay cymbal was the ride. Also playing drums sounds different from where your sitting than the front of the set

I agree with that! Paiste really knows how to continually make their B8/CuSn8 cymbals sound phenomenal.. I don't know how they do it so well lol

What's the lowest price you think is possible without compromising quality and/or sound? I know it's a tough question to answer, but I'll be fine with your best guess. $600 is a whole drum set. Lol. Or is paying as much for your cymbals as you do for your set the nature of the beast?

Sadly, It honestly is kinda the nature of it all if you want quality. If we are talking B20 cymbals only, you could spend about $700 as of this writing and get some decent Sabian XSR's (performance set). Or, you could spend a little more and grab the Sabian Stratus cymbal pack ($850). Those new Stratus cymbals sound fantastic for the price-point. I know Meinl makes some decent B10 cymbals that are a bit more affordable that you could look into (Classics series). I think they sound pretty good (a little around $600). There are tons of other cymbal companies that make great cymbals. Even more under the radar who aren't as well known.. Honestly too many choices lol.. Makes my head hurt. Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste Meinl, Dream, Instabul, Stagg, Wuhan (just a few you could look into) Saluda cymbals is another great company. You could build a cymbal pack with their different lines and probably spend around $600-700 on a decent amount of B20 cymbals. Hope that helps you!

@@AttunedMusician Thank you for the info and the advice. I'll have to check em out. It's sad that that's the nature of the beast. 😔 But I have heard of Wuhan before. I'm gonna try them out soon! There was a Zildjian K Crash/Ride that I really liked, but it was around $400, at a USED store!!!! I'm looking into Wuhan because they might be able to give me the crash/ride I want for an affordable price. The other crash/rides I've seen at the popular stores are too thick and clunky for my taste. The whole crash/ride idea was inspired by a Gordy Knudson instructional video in which he started the video with a BADASS groove. He had a 2 piece, hi hats, and a crash/ride which I thought sounded very smooth. And I had a hard time trying to find that smoothness with the crash/rides I found. Also, I'm not starting out as a drummer. I had some good experience drumming (I played at church pretty well, then I took a hiatus). I'm getting back into it, and I thought about trying this video (thanks again). I've been getting cheap and used cymbals overtime to fill my inventory, and I'm in the process of setting up two kits: one with the works and one that's more "minimalist" (it's a Ludwig Breakbeats set). Thanks again for the info fam. 😁👍

If you can afford them just go straight to Zildjian Ks. There is no comparison. lol

Man Zildjian Ks are great. Another great line is the Sabian HHX line and specifically I think of the Complex line. Zildjian are the OGs though
