I love *the swoop!* Thank you--and, for me with my Janome M7, *the swoop* will save me so much time. I just finished a quilt with 255 squares and freehand quilted a separate rose on each one, man had I thought of this (which I obviously didn't), it would have saved me at least 255 minutes (at least 4 & one quarter hours)! And that was made the task daunting and at times, unenjoyable. I love this, "The Swoop!*

TIP: Wind at least 6 bobbins before you start quilting a quilt. Also, I’ve had a glide foot for years - which I’ve never used because I did not know what tool to get the other foot off! Now I know, thank you! 🌸🌸

Thanks for all of the tips. My favorites were the Swoop, changing thread quickly, changing feet tool and lift the post. Wait...I can't pick a favorite and I wrote them all down. Thanks again for the tips. Keep on Swooping!

Great video! I keep a cheat sheet of tension settings for each thread brand/weight/type combination I’ve ever used. I start my test with what I noted on the cheat sheet, then I only have to make minor adjustments.

I have an Infinity. As I am getting older, I am "shrinking", so it's getting to be a long reach for threading. I have started bringing the head all the way to the right, and threading from the side. Sooooo much easier!!!!

When you do need to retread the needle, hold the thread very close to the end, position the thread in the groove that runs down the front of the needle, slide the thread down the groove, and it will pop through the needle eye. Before letting go, grab the thread in the back with a small tweezers (otherwise removing your hand from the thread tends to to pull it back out of the eye)

Great ideas! I totally think “efficient” is a better word for your tips and tricks because “lazy” implies the quilter doesn’t care and gets sloppy about things.

Love the swoop! I'm going to buy another bobbin now😊. I love my red snappers to load a quilt. Gone are the days of pinning.

I'm so excited about *the swoop!* See my comment above. Now, with the set up I have (my goal is to eventually buy a longarm) I can freehand separate individual designs without concern of all the interruptions to bring that bobbin thread up through the quilt. This is fabulous!

To help with the “drifting” of pattern problem in an e2e: Baste a vertical line on the left side of the area box in the throat space and make sure the start point is located on the vertical line. Each new start point is aligned with the vertical line by using modify, reposition, left right etc. Continue basting the vertical line down the left side in the new throat space as you advance the quilt. You can get rid of the area box after baseline and just use the vertical line as the start position. Works great for me.

I take the time to clean out the bobbin race area, oil the machine, and swab the needle neck while my bobbin is being wound between each bobbin. Pre-wounds may be in my future, but those other little tasks still need to occur, so I’m not sure how time saving it really is.

11:57 my post that the foot attaches to does move up. When I went to raise the presser foot up s bit higher, the whole thing dropped down to the plate! My dealer fixed it for me, but there is still no spring to it at all!

Where can I get the screw driver for changing the feet?

Not sure the one in the video is available for purchase. Mine came with my machine. Go to your local hardware store. Tell them you you need a “2.5mm hex screwdriver”. I know that is the correct size because I just checked it. They’ll know exactly what you want. Of course it won’t say Handiquilter but it will get the job done. If they have different lengths get a shorter one it will be less awkward.

Kim/Kristina: I noticed you use the "bowl-shape" plastic foot most of the time in these videos lately. What determines whether to use the round plastic foot rather than the Sure Foot as recommended previously. I have a Moxie.
@HandiQuilter

The Sure foot is always used when doing ruler work. The glide foot is a great option for edge to edge quilting. It's all about choosing the right tool for the job.

I’m looking for a ‘lazy’ tip on cutting bobbin threads. ??
@HandiQuilter

Tip #3 and Tip #4 start at about 3:55 and talking about pulling up your bobbin thread to trim.

My lazy (efficient) thing to do is, like you did, put one giant piece of backing on the frame (literally fill the frame) and then load on bunches of smaller items to quilt. Then you only hv to load once! The downside is that you can’t take them off until they are all done! 😬🤣

Different color threads are different tensions? I never knew!
@HandiQuilter
@HandiQuilter 11 ай бұрын
Just to clarify....are you referring to when we talked about using multiple bobbin cases if we are using multiple colors on the quilt? If that is the case, we are using different bobbins which will require different tension. It isn't necessarily that it is because of the color but more of that it is different thread.

I was told by my dealer to take the spring out of the bobbin case with the magnetic bobbin…is that not correct?
@kimsandberg1364
@kimsandberg1364 Жыл бұрын
You should never take the brake spring out of the bobbin case. It helps hold the bobbin snuggly in place and prevents it from turning backwards when you stop.

I was also told to take out the spring brake out of the bobbin when using magnetic pre-wound bobbins by a well known TV quilter. Does it matter if it’s a different longarm brand? Thank you for your tips, I need to try out the swoop!
