Great thoughts here Robert! Lots of people freaking out about AI recently. Personally I don't think we are anywhere near the freaking out point with AI yet. Fast forward 10 years and some will look back and think they were overreacting 10 years ago. I'm still waiting for the flying cars that were promised when I was a kid 😂 I'm pretty excited about all the new tools coming out and have only found them very useful so far. Great demonstrations in this video pal, really enjoyed it and your thoughts on the topic!

Cheers mate. I think it's important to keep abreast of new technology. Time will tell how this is really going to affect photography and people's definition of what it means, but I'm definitely open minded. I'm looking forward to the flying cars too! 😂

Great video Robert, sometimes and with in reason AI is a good tool. It can repair or reset that photo which for one reason or another just needs the extra adjustment. We have all made mistakes with what could be a great photo, it is an aid but not a replacement for good photographers. Keep up the good work.

Thanks John. I make a lot of use of the masking and denoising type tools - not so much the art generation side of things. I think it's fascinating though, and I'm conscious that it's easy to get left behind if we don't acknowledge new technology. 😊

Although I am not a fan of sky replacement and most the AI stuff in third party software and especially not a fan of Luminar, nor do I use any of the Neural filters in Photoshop, I thank you for sharing this.

A lot of scaremongering around at the moment about AI but I think you're dead right to actually look at the improvements and help it offers us as photographers.....and personally I don't think AI throws up much risk to the vast majority of professional photographers either, just as other technical breakthroughs in the past haven't, embrace it, don't fear it. Good message amongst the many naysayers Robert......Whether ai can produce art, by its very definition, is something I'd have to dispute though. But a much longer discussion probably required for that hot potato! :)

Cheers Dave. It's going to be interesting to see how it develops. I think a lot of creative people often feel like their art comes from an unknown place. There's inspiration from other sources, experimentation and variation on that inspiration (and this seems to be what AI is good at emulating), but then there is another, more mysterious factor, where the ideas just seem to come to people from nowhere. I wonder if AI can ever emulate this. If not, there's definitely a place for human art and photography in the future. Thanks for watching and joining the discussion mate. 😊

AI is an amazing thing. But it won’t take over photography, only help it. Don’t really use it but I can see it coming in handy for people that don’t edit much.

I use the masking and denoise type stuff a lot - not really the sky replacement or generative type stuff. I agree though, pretty amazing what it can do, and it's really fun! Thanks for watching Paul. 😊

Nope, sorry. Image augmentation to that level is no longer photography.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Is there a particular tool you're referring to? Or do you think all of these tools augment to a level that isn't photography?

@@Robert-Bishop Things like sky replacement or blure or adding light. I am seeing a lot of it now and while some effects are nice, it's a hard pass for me. I don't want to sound like a stuck-up hater but we need to recognize that there are boundaries and once you cross them you're just using photography to create images but not photographs anymore.

@@kevlarnegative Yeah, I wouldn't include things like masking and denoising in this category, but you're right, some stuff is using photography to create art. I'm comfortable with that, but I realise some people won't be. It's not always black and white though. Replacing a sky with one from another photo you captured, isn't that different to creating a double exposure, that combines two images you took. I think there would be far fewer people who would regard a double exposure as anything other than photography.
