I'm one of those that doesn't like blazers so I have a collection of WHBM cardigans that gives me the 3rd piece that completes an outfit in a softer way. I can pull off the cardigan in a dressier way with skirts or casual with your favorite denim. Love your channel 💚

So many great tips Jamie! I agree about the buttons. I’ve been know to thrift high end blouses and even men’s shirts for the buttons and to make bias tape and pocket linings! One thing I would add is to press your garments, even an inexpensive one will look better pressed.

Viscose is the European name for rayon. All rayons- including cupro, modal, etc. - can be manufactured in different weaves and weights, just like silk, cotton, wool.

Yay! thanks so much for mentioning the importance of buttons -- An attractive clothing item with cheap, looking plastic buttons really takes a good look down a notch. I have seen this even on items from fairly expensive brands and retailers. So thanks for reminding us to always check the buttons!

Banana Republic is absolutely stomping the competition nowadays, the fabrics they use are far superior to other brands at this price point and the construction quality is great too. Fabric quality is the most important consideration to me, but BR’s styles are outstanding too, classic, but modern to the minute. I’m so glad that I took another look at this brand, which was off my radar for years. I think the prices reasonable for such great quality. No brand affiliation, I’m not an influencer, but I do mention brands that I love this much. My other favorites: Theory, Equipment, and Lily Silk, and some items from Quince, especially their perfect silk skirts. I used to love J.Crew, but they have moved in the opposite direction by downgrading their fabrics, generally. That said, I did just get a beautiful navy and white striped cropped cardigan from them, in 100% cotton, that I know I will love for decades. Madewell can be good, too.

I am right there with you with Banana Republic. I use to shop their a ton years ago and stopped for the past several years. I am glad I decided to give them a try again and I absolutely agree with you on all points! I also love all the brands you mentioned but I still have not tried Quince. They are on my radar to try though. Thanks for sharing!

I started shopping at BR a year ago. I am a trim stylish 74 yr old and their style works for me-especially their blazers. I prefer to spend a little more and buy a little less. Also, I look for their 40% off sale on new merchandise and buy more at those sales. The sales associates are super helpful and the store is beautiful. Thanks for mentioning Banana Republic Jamie!

I don't feel that it's about looking expensive, but more about looking put together in a classic more sophisticated manner. Your tips do point us in that direction. Love the striped top you purchased from BR. I too, have rediscovered this brand. They have changed their entire styling in the past two years. Being sustainable is important and that has to do with buying natural fabrics like cotton, linen, wool, and silk. Even when I shop at Loft, I only will buy their 100% cotton tops and sweaters. These two brands are great for me because I wear petites. Great video, Jamie.

I agree that there is more quality synthetic fabrics that have different name, like viscose. Also the cut is important. I just ordered 6pairs of old navy jeans . They looked nice online and fit well, but the back pockets were huge and low, making my rear end look flat and saggy. Huge disappointment ! Returning them all.

I was going to suggest the same idea: dark-wash, black, white or ivory jeans, which do look more expensive than light-washed denim. Light washes and distressing have been dominating jeans trends for several years, but they will never look expensive, classic or elegant, they are just too super-casual.

I like rayon because it’s so cool, soft and breathable, but the low-quality versions, including viscose, at those cheapest price points aren’t very good (viscose uses a much more toxic manufacturing process than rayon). I would much rather wear even cheap viscose or rayon, though, than any synthetic or synthetic blend. As with other fibers, quality makes all the difference for the rayon/viscose family. Zara rayon dresses use much higher quality, thicker fabrics than H&M, Walmart, Old Navy, etc., and look so much better. They are twice the price, but so worth it. Rayon items from Nordstrom are often very high quality. This is a fabric I value, along with its better version, Tencel/lyocell, the best and cleanest of the group. I don’t consider any polyester or acrylic items to be good quality, nor are these plastics very wearable.
@YourGuideToStyle
@YourGuideToStyle Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this information. I did not know that about Zara so that's good. I do like Tencel/Lyocell better than rayon and viscose. I have a blazer from Everlane that is made of Lyocell and I love it!
