I became super-lazy about wearing any makeup or jewelry during the pandemic. I need to get back on track, even just a pair of earrings and some blush makes a big difference. My usual toilette got cut to the essentials - shower, teeth, sunscreen and clothes. I’m at home alone most days, but I know I would feel better if I made a little more effort, even on ordinary days.

I love how you provide various styling tips for one item. I wish I could wear button-up shirts and actually button them up.. I’m very large busted, but narrow shoulders. If I get a size to accommodate my bust, the shoulders droop too far off the shoulder. Oversized shirts look awful on me because I’m also very short - only 5’1” - and curvy. Alterations are very expensive, so that is not an option. So glad you included ways to wear them without buttoning.

What about those of us who are apple shaped or sporting an apron belly? How to style the shirt to hide that?
@dianeknott3655

That's me - tummy, small chest, thick and short waisted. I just can't tuck in my shirts. I look all out of proportion. I'd love to tuck them in, but it just doesn't hide my tummy and I'm only 5'4". I generally wear slimmer pants, a shorter T-shirt or tank top and then top it off with an open button-up. It's the only way I feel works for me. It's so frustrating trying to proportion my out-of-proportion shape.

2:02 No matter the big red cross on the style, it looks super hot. It has the magical out-of-bed styling quality only red-heads with curls can pull off. Oh, and DITCH the fireplace mesh. It is super annoying as backdrop for your legs.

.. .I find those jeans look too short, ( when you were showing the tuck in white shirt ) ...I dont get the " highwater jeans", they look odd to me, because I was taught ( DECADES AGO ) to make sure your hem of troysers / jeans reaches over your ankle . I have worn a white button down, left untucked, with a beautiful black vekvet Blazer, but it was hip length and looked good.... I like that look, I think its personal preference as to what one prefers when it comes to certain things. I dont do " trends " , and every white button down shirt is not " casual ..."...I have several white shirts that are quite dressy. I dont like cropped blazers , ...again, personal preference.

With your cropped blazer, I wonder if the style is to have long sleeves. It looks as if the blazer is too big or perhaps you should have the purchased a Petite blazer instead of from the Regular size.

The sleeves are a bell sleeve, and usually, those are a little longer and loose looking. I don't think I could go any smaller in the jacket!

Great video, Jamie! I am currently wearing a white cotton gauze button-up shirt, while the temps are above 100 degrees every day. When it cools down, I plan on bringing in my regular white cotton shirt because I think it transitions better into fall than the gauze one. Right now, I'm wearing the shirt by itself because it's just too dang hot to layer anything... lol. Keep those videos coming. I love them! ❤️

Great video! I’m saving this one for future reference! Quick question about the button up with the cami over a maxi skirt. Do you suggest going with a white cami to match the button up or could you change out the color of the cami? Which do you think gives a better look? Thank you!

Great video and nice ways to style a simple button up shirt However, ... none of these would ever work for me. I am 5'8 and a flamboyant natural (don't do the salad mix). This means that when I'm slim I have long lines, narrow hips, and wide shoulders. When FN's gain weight they gain it (usually) around their waist and sometimes their bust. I've put on weight and now that I'm in perimenopause ... well, it's not getting any better. The last thing I would ever want to do is highlight my waist in any way. My solution is to wear a tank top (snug or loose depending on day) with the same colour pants and a contrasting button up over top - unbuttoned. This gives 'a column of colour' under a contrast and it allows for the tank top to skim the body showing off the bust and hide the bulge. I wear the button up with the sleeves rolled up and sometimes with the collar jauntily turned up. I always wear a necklace that sits around my collar bone to break up my jowl and chest. My second solution for cooler days is to put a blazer on top of the above outfit with the button up being left undone. I like to wear an oversized tweed blazer that I wear with a white w/navy stripe button up and then a navy tank top and navy pants. If I get hot I can just take the blazer off and I'm still put together. There are other options to looking chic that don't involve tucking anything in. However, if tucking your shirt (blouse, button up, etc) in is your thing then I think many of the methods you've shown on your channel are spot on. Thanks for taking the time to come up with some innovative style ideas.

Thank you truly for finding us what seems to be the elusive “perfect white shirt” (and telling us how much to size up for the perfect fit too.) I can’t help wondering how hard it is to keep it looking like yours looks in this video…… do you pretty much have to iron it before every wear? Or do you steam it? Re: the cropped blazer. I struggle with sleeve length on jackets too. I’m 5’3” and my arms are quite short. HAVE to do Petites or have them shortened or use one of the hacks to keep the sleeves pushed up. Just like we need to see a waist, we need to see “wrist” to keep jackets from overwhelming us and creating the “kids playing dress up” effect. Another reason I wish I lived near a Nordstrom-free alterations!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Jamie! I have struggled with shirts over the years, especially as I love jackets (third garment) dressing. The whole double collar thing is tricky and, until I pounced on your cross criss tip (which I've been practising) didn't know how to deal with all that fabric at the hem. I still "invoke Jamie" with your shirt tie tip (right over left then left over right) which does result in a nicer finish. I've also graduated from having no shirts in my wardrobe to acquiring a few lately, mostly in preparation for the coming spring.

Hi Jamie, Great styling video on button ups…I will need to take some time and practice. The “N” sale winners…Open Edit long line cardigan for less than $50 was a real winner. The Treasure & Bond leather bomber jacket was another, thanks for the heads up. The Sam Edelman double breasted tweed coat in magenta and the Joe’s coated wide leg jeans are exquisite and great fit. The losers include the Avec Les Filles faux leather orange jacket and the mixed plaid double breasted blazer. The brand runs slightly small…the jacket was very, very cropped but adorable…and just didn’t work; the blazer was lovely as well but had too much wool for me. A few blouses, shoes and beauty items so I’m set for fall.😂

I have some clips (they were popular items years ago) that you can use in a variety of ways. One of the ways I like to use it is to add some waist definition to a boxy or over sized shirt/jacket. It is 2 clips connected by a band or chain that can perform similarly to a back tie. Make 2 separate box pleat folds by hand (be careful not to pull too tight or space them too far apart) & clip them. It will temporarily "alter" the fit of the garment in back. You can also use it as a sweater accessory or to hold an open front (non button) jacket or sweater closed. I had actually forgotten about these clips but found a couple when going thru my mom's things after she passed. She also had some stretchy bands that look like bracelets that I assume are used to hold your sleeves up & some plastic rings to help style & tie scarves. My mom kept everything. Bless her. :) I really wish button up shirts didn't all have breast pockets. (Large busted) I prefer a plain front with bust darts or princess seems if it's a fitted shirt. These are great styling tips. I absolutely love your channel for demonstrating how to wear the same items in different ways.

I have taken breast pockets off before. It's easy to do with a seam ripper. Afterwards, once you wash and iron the shirt, the little holes left by the stitching disappear and you won't even know it ever had pockets!
