Key summaries are: - Visceral fat elevation can lead to elevated insulin levels, impeding the body's ability to burn fat effectively and promoting fat storage. - Identifying and reducing visceral fat can help prevent metabolic decline. - Metabolically healthy obesity is a rare exception where individuals can be obese but still metabolically healthy. - Limiting sugar intake, especially high fructose corn syrup, is important as it can lead to insulin resistance and increased visceral fat. - Increasing soluble fiber intake, such as flax seeds and chia seeds, can reduce visceral fat. - Cardiovascular exercise, particularly higher intensity aerobic exercise, is more effective at reducing visceral fat compared to resistance training. - Getting sufficient sleep is crucial for managing visceral fat. Strategies include consuming tart cherry juice, taking tryptophan supplements, avoiding carbohydrates before bed, scheduling exercise appropriately, and exposing oneself to red or low light in the morning. - Consider getting a DEXA scan to assess visceral fat levels and track progress.

Tips to tackle visceral fat: - Eat fruits instead of refined starch - Cardio: Aerobic exercise - Reduce stress - Monounsaturated fats ( macadamia nut and olive oil ) - Reduce sugar ( desensitised insulin receptors ) - Soluble fiber intake 10g increased in a diet daily ( can be in the form of flaxseed and chia seed ). - Sleep 😴 : no carbs 3 hrs before bed. High intensity morning and low intensity around bedtime. Also you could have red tart cherry juice

Can't eat fruit. Love it, but when blood test said risk for NAFLD went keto/low carb and stopped my usual snacking on cottage cheese and fruit (grapes, kiwi, banana, cherries. etc.) Within the first 6 months lost 35 lbs and dexascan showed .07lb visceral fat. Almost 4 years on keto/low carb now and recently wore cgm to see which carbs I can tolerate. Sadly most fruits except berries cause a glucose spike (even just 1/8 red grapefruit with protein and fat).

So far my weight loss journey has had some mixed results. The first 6 weeks there was no change whatsoever. And I just wanted to give up. After week 7 things started looking up. I was losing weight and the fat was coming off for the next 3 weeks. The next 2-3 weeks nothing was happening again. Then I was maintaining the same weight for a cple weeks but losing size. After that I gained weight but lost size. So I've had some interesting results.

@@Circa1775 I cleared out a room last month, and converted it into gym space. Weight training is more of a muscle building, and toning thing. My fast paced walks are more cardio. I have lost some visceral fat, but I attribute that to avoiding people who cause stress, and attention to liver health. Some of what is going on in my gut is edemia from when I was drinking. That is a condition that few people understand the cure for. Ive been on a strict keto diet for the last 3 months, and have noticed a substantial improvement in my health across the board. Sorry Thomas, but if I'm not mistaken, you're rather off in terms of your calculations on what makes up 10g of increased daily intake of soluble fiber. My daily dose of supr colnon clsne (misspelling intentional) provides only 2g. Then, my twice daily bowl of old fashioned oats (2 x 1/2 cup) provides only another 2g. As much as I love it, having (10) 1/2C servings per day isn't something I want as there are too many carbs. I'll check further, but upping by 10g per day seems quite challenging from what I currently have on hand. As always, great content though. Thanks!

Flax has a lot apparently, and I do eat a lot of avocados. Black beans and sweet potatos have a lot as well. I guess I'm going to have to weigh getting at least 10g of sol fiber per day with having a low carb diet. I really don't see how I can have both.

@EA-ck4so Жыл бұрын
@@rickkennedy7256 I am one week strict keto, 3 weeks low carbs for many months. No issues with fiber at all. But then, I eat 1-2 avocados and nuts every single day (one large avocado is almost 10 grams of fiber). That said, black beans are so high in fiber that by having a reasonable portion you can both get fiber and still stay low carbs. I have also discovered lots of root veggies that are low carbs and can add additional fiber to my diet: turnips, rutabaga, kohlrabi, carrots, pumpkin (no butternut squash though). And of course, all kinds of mushrooms!

I wonder if those few outlier individuals with "metabolically healthy obesity" are mostly NFL Offensive/Defensive Linemen. Those guys are like 6'5" 320 but they are legit athletes. They are burning that fat while playing and need to constantly eat calories to keep the weight on during the season. But a lot of these guys retire and all of a sudden have 6-packs without loose skin. Just look up Joe Thomas, but he's one of many.

thats basically my problem: 1 and a 1/2 decade of bad habits, low activity, lots of soda and candy.. i am skinny fat and even after doing diets, i still have weird fat on my belly and chest, looks awful... i did like 3 diets in the past years when i lose fat, it seems like i only lose "invisible" fat underneath, my awful looking upper layer of fat stays the same, my hangig "manboobs" and fat belly even though i lost 10 kilos and look skinny in clothes... for me it seems like its absolutely impossible to lose that kind of "visible" fat... it drives me crazy :(

The question is how many calories you are taking in at the Iftar. To lose weight you need to eat at a calorie deficit relative to your base metabolic rate, and with all of that delicious food (and sweets!), I can see how it’s easy to mess that up.

Poor posture adds to the appearance of a pot belly as well, a lot of people stand with their hips popped back. If you straighten up your stomach falls in line better.

We don’t need a test to tell us we have visceral fat, you just showed us an example of a person with high visceral fat. It’s hard to eliminate fat a certain area of your body. Losing fat happens all over the body. You can’t spot reduce, other than surgery.

What's the scoop on monounsaturated fats? I keep hearing mixed perspectives - i.e. CarnivoreMD
@williamoconnell1233
@williamoconnell1233 Жыл бұрын
keep going on the monounsaturated fats! those are the healthy kind. just make sure you don't eat too much of it. Eating fiber will help with that, and keep your protein high, and your carbs at a moderate level. Make sure that your fat intake stays low.
@thealiusjones
@thealiusjones Жыл бұрын
@@williamoconnell1233 this is what I mean... what you just said has been contraindicated by various papers and individuals in the nutrition science space. I don't think keeping fats low per se is necessarily good advice. Obviously, calorically and nutritionally, we have to be mindful, however, I think the source of monounsaturated fats also matters.

Is walking like 10k steps a day a sufficient cardio exercise?
@thoroughfaretonothingness623
@thoroughfaretonothingness623 Жыл бұрын
More than sufficient!!..you burn around 400 calories doing so..and add in a daily deficit of 300 calories in your diet and you'll lose a pound of fat every 5 days !! Sustainable and easy to stick to..avoid binging at night or eating out of boredom..when you're bored drink so much water that your stomach feels heavy and you'll lose the cravings..may give you a temporary bloating issue but in 4-5 weeks you'll look very lean and in shape
