Congratulations brother I know how you feel I was there 3 years ago 🔥 The possibilities are endless. What a great job of automating your garage. I picked up many tips, lots of places to apply the modules. I started automating my house in the late 1980’s using Radio Shack/X-10 controllers. Technology ha come a LONG way since then! Thanks for the presentation.

I'm with you on the "did I close the garage door when I left?" I do it all the time. The garage door opener I recently purchased comes with a wifi app that allows you to monitor the status of your garage door and remotely activate it if necessary. Definitely a great addition to a smart garage. And I gotta say, I just stumbled across this video, but your intro "I'm not lazy, I just like technology" is a perfect summation of my feelings as well. That statement earned you my subscription. :)

@@DIYCreators you can take it 1 step further and put an Alexa puck in the garage. So instead of hitting a button, you can be totally hands free and just say, "Alexa, turn on shopvac" or "turn on lights" or "open garage" or "turn on TV" etc etc etc. With proper configuration, you could even ask Alexa the attic temperature and "she" would respond. The puck runs for about $99 (I think) and all you do is connect it to your wifi.

Hi. I just want to say how much I enjoy your videos. I am a 56 year 'OLD' lady. I am a beginner when it comes to woodworking. I love to fix, create and imagine all kinds of projects. I think What drew me to you [and keeps me watching] is the way you explain things. Simple and straight forward. I use youtube often to learn how to do new things but often they are so far over my head I can't follow. The first video I watched of yours was the floating shelves and I actually built them! Twice! Thanks for sharing your list of Smart items. I recently added the myQ Garage Opener to my garage for the same "Did I close my garage door" reason you mentioned. Great to see it through the camera (which I long considered), but it's even better to not have to turn around and head back home to shut it since the app allows you to both close and open the door.

@@JuvenileWolf well thank you dr. I don’t tell her what to do, she’s grown and can do what she wants. I wanted a shop since we built the house. So after she told me I couldn’t make a man cave in the garage, I built the shop. And I’m genx and a veteran, my feelings don’t get hurt. I had thought to put a camera in the garage (and outside so I can catch the next person who sideswipes our car when parked), but the coolest gadget is the leak detector. I put a drain under our washing machine with the idea that if the worst happens, water has someplace to go. But, the detector would be a nice alternative to that solution. (Or, maybe in addition to the drain.) Thanks!

Nice! The sensor on the garage door should tell you if it's open or closed, and maybe you can trigger a notification to tell you if it's open for x number of minutes. The Vibration Sensor you can also glue to the garage door and if somebody is messing with it you get notified. And maybe add a camera outside...

Hi, a couple of suggestions. You should put a check valve on the output of your water heater. On the input side of the water heater you should be an electrically operated valve that is activated by a water sensor. Home Depot sells these. In the event of a water leak it will shut the water off going to your water heater. You'll still have all the water in the heater leaking out but with the electric valve will prevent an endless flood. The check valve will prevent all the water in the pipes from flowing back and adding to the flood.

This is second video of yours I've enjoyed. Got an idea for you: Smart home ideas for Seniors, or at least helpful. What comes to mind (since the viewer Matthew below asked) I got one of the flatbed (folds flat) carts to place my recycle bin on when going to the curb with trash & recycles. In winter in Michigan the driveway can be slippery or hard to slog through snow, so having the cart to hold onto is a safety measure and I can look at where I'm going, leave the bin at the curb and use cart for stabiity getting back into garage and house. Same to pick it up when bin has been emptied. Cart can be used for other things, too. Give us more ideas.

What sort of career path would you say you work? Like what would someone need to do to get the sort of education you have with DIY building, carpentry, etc. that you do? It seems like a fulfilling line of work where you have more freedom, which I always enjoy seeing on this channel! Also, I like your conventional approach to smart tech! I've always felt that most smart tech was too invasive to privacy, and would make people too dependent, but these are all practical examples of the good that it can accomplish. Awesome video!
