Thanks in advanced and stay healthy and Blessed.

@@sxvxgebeatz Hey hey! Hope this finds you and your family all safe and healthy in these challenging times. Thank you sincerely for your kind comment and for subscribing, and a warm welcome to the Hack Music Theory community, we really appreciate you being here! Regarding stock plugins. I'm afraid we don't use FL Studio, so we can't help you there. However, hopefully someone in the community who uses FL Studio will see your question here and jump in with an answer! Thanks again for stopping by and connecting, and we hope to see you again soon :)

The Phoenix Project not sure about stock plugin but as 3rd party bass station novation would be my suggestion. The original is designed by the guys who made the legendary wasp so its a decent bass house hence the name ✌🏼✌🏼 another good option would be moog: model d, animoog... classic. Wide spectum from glassy to warm. Animoog is madness with isotropic engine and an xy pad with many morphing options and expressive keypad. Comes as an ios app but hope also is a vst.

As a metal muso that usually keeps it melodic, this was actually something that I really needed to know. Bass for my writing was usually all roots but I knew it needed some spice. Most of the time it was too much "spice". The whole 80/20 thing makes a lot of sense and I'll try to give an update when I start recording again

@@HackMusicTheory I mainly write for quartet. I play violin and a friend of mine plays cello, so I started noodling with musescore to make little duets. Since I can add more than just us two, I started adding in a second violin and a viola. I always feel like I write the base parts too boring, or flip with my cellist and give her the melody while I play a soft backing--then it's too complex for the softer sound of the cello to shine through. This 80/20 rule really helps make a nice baseline that won't be boring but will let the cello shine, too. Thanks again for the great advice!

Great video from a geat channel! Using the third or the fifth of a chord in the bass, though, does raise the subject of inversions. It’s definitely not a topic that could have been covered in detail in a 7’37” video, but I feel it would have done no harm just to mention it for the record.

Steven my friend, hope this finds you well. There are many DAWs (digital audio workstations) that you can choose from. We use Reaper, which you can download here: reaper.fm It's only $60, and that also gets you lifetime updates, which happen surprisingly often! We're not endorsed by Reaper, we've just been using the DAW for over a decade, and prefer it to other DAWs. Hope that helps, and I hope to see you back here in the comments on our next video. Until then, take care. Ray :)

Hey friend! Thanks for stopping by and connecting, and a warm welcome to the Hack Music Theory community! Thanks also for your interest in our book, and yes, you can buy the paperback version from Amazon, here: www.amazon.com/dp/1988410045 However, if you're happy to spend a few dollars, you might as well buy the full version (Hack Music Theory, Part 1) instead: www.amazon.com/dp/1988410002 Our free book is a hack-only version (i.e. summary) of Hack Music Theory, Part 1, so if you buy the full version then you'll not only get the hacks but you'll also get all the chapters, which contains they why/how the theory works, as well as creative ideas for using it in your own music. Hope that helps, and thanks again for being here, you are very much appreciated :)

Hey, great contribution to the music universe. I don't find a readily available way to PM you, so here it goes in public: Its not about the content of this and other vids you present on the KZbin platform, its how they're presented so that the viewer can absorb it. I'm at 3:15 in this video and wanted to back up and pick up something you'd said. Must be different ways each presentation is configured, I didn't have the "back up 10 seconds" button available. Lost my train of thought. Maybe that's the HACK format. You don't get to go back a little bit and clear something up --- your content is rich enough to be worth to do that. Is it when you compose these videos that you have some checkbox to include "back up 10 seconds" navigation or is the Eye of Sauron trying to push us towards its homogeneity? Thank you for covering theory concepts. My role in our little enclave of musical noise makers is to attempt to make sense out of some controlled noise. Par example, today's workout is 20 minutes of bass riffs for stems. Maybe I can modulate or tweak a passing tone. ..... WHAT WAS THAT YOU JUST SAID? Maybe this channel is worth expanded listening to at

Hack Music Theory . I don’t anymore. I got fed up with dealing with technology problems so got rid of all my equipment and went back to the piano. I used to run Cubase Score (90s?) but may try to find a simpler DAW as things have changed so much since then. Let me know if you have any DAW suggestions.
@HackMusicTheory4 жыл бұрын
Yeah sometimes it's great to totally go back to playing an acoustic instrument, and take a time-out from technology! If or when you feel like returning to the DAW, we use Reaper and love it, cos it's super simple! reaper.fm

@@HackMusicTheory Thanks for your response! My parents are professional musicians, so over 50 years or so I absorbed a few undisciplined skills, and a host of bad habits. Now, in order to actually learn something, I do not allow myself to touch the instruments until I have completed work assignments in music theory, and my motivation is piqued daily by the new digital recording studio I have finally completed - although I don't get to record anything yet (for fun, outside of composition assignments) until I complete the first theory book, then I can play. My tastes are eclectic, mostly leaning toward ancient classical music, you know, like Beethoven, Strauss, Aerosmith, Bach, Stones, Stravinsky, G&R, Grateful Dead, etc., but my main output is bland commercial backgrounds/donuts, and a few original scores (that were rejected) for low-budget films. I can score very compelling orchestral pieces using DAW software (various) on the PC, which I have been working with for as long as there have been DAW-capable PC's (think Atari ST and Commodore Amiga), but I couldn't conduct a band to save my life. But that's electronic music employing sampling synths, VST, and MIDI. My "hardware" instruments are acoustic and electric guitar, synth guitar, the keyboard (workstation), tenor sax, clarinet (because I wanted a CORNET that Christmas, but somebody misheard me, so not to look ungrateful I acted like I wanted it all my life and learned how to play it, sort of), various marching band bugles, and a violin (just for looks). I can make reasonably musical noises with all of them, except the violin which scares the hell out of the dog for some reason...

Hi Kate. We are doing well, and what better thing to do than make music. I’m going to sign up for your course - but with a specific objective in mind. I’ve written a piece with a climatic orchestral part that right now sounds pretty lame. The 80/20 rule was one thing I needed, but there’s much more needed. Most music I write isn’t all that complicated, but this one’s an anthem project. Looking forward to the course. Stay safe you guys. BTW Ray, I’ve started drinking tea. ;-)

Hey Michael, we're relieved to hear you're doing well in this potentially challenging time. A big warm welcome to the Apprenticeship, we're thrilled you're inspired to take your climactic anthem to the next level! And you're right, this is the perfect time to dive deeper into music making :) Ray says congrats on the tea drinking and wants to know what kind? All our best, and enjoy the apprenticeship journey, oh and if you feel like it, feel free to share your work in progress in the apprentice network. We'd love to hear what you're up to :)

Hack Music Theory I’m now on board and enjoyed the introduction. As for tea. It’ll be earl grey all the way for the next 17 lessons. This old guy will be taking his time, but I think I can tackle one per day, plus look for applications in my song. My song (Sonny) is already written so I’ve bounced a start version, then will bounce a completed version based on what I learned from the course. Should be fun, and I’m excited. Cheers from Sudbury to Vancouver.
