I felt Whitney over Earth Angel went over a bit better than the reverse. Maybe this tells us that vocals in straight time work fine over a shuffled beat, but vocals in shuffled time don’t map so cleanly to a straight beat

From those mash-ups, it appears to me that what makes a song unique is never the harmonisation but the melody. I still belive that can nowadays take a I - iv - IV - V and make a hit because you created an amazing melody upon it. When "the scientist" by coldplay came out, it was a overused "iv - IV - I" with an overused piano hammering but the melody just made smth new appear. I'm not much into jazz because I can't understand the thrill of a music solely based on harmonisation..

I feel that this video is slightly misleading as it (Most likely not intentionally) gives the impression that songs will pretty much ONLY work over other songs with the same chord progression. Some of my favourite mashups I ever heard mash songs together that have completely different chord progressions.
