One of the devs here - glad to see you enjoyed your playthrough, Equestria is an extremely old country in the game and I would highly recommend looking at more up to date or recently created nations for a true example of what we can do - suggestions include Hippogriffia (there's a very cool commie route there as well as a strong harmonist route and a couple of secret paths) Colthage (many paths, including a secret one that involves multiple civil wars to get to and has more writing as a route than some entire other nations) or Wingbardy (Beakolini go brrrr.) There are even some paths for countries based on the country being capitulated by a neighbour and then using the event prompt to tag-switch - Chiroptera being beaten by a neighbour is an example of this, and leads to a few choices including a religious-socialist route.

You'll need to take the choice which involves NOT supporting the Mayor (i.e, side with the army) and on completion of that side of the tree, you should be able to appoint one Mr Trotbert Horse.. Just remember, The Horse always wins..

I watched Stakuyi's video and I'll never forget the outcome to his "Bat problem" focus. Every time Taureor said "I'll deal with them in a bit" I was like oh boy, and then he did the focus and got a peaceful reintegration. Like lots of kudos to the devs to put something like that in the game, where Stakuyi got a "Blood for the blood god" Daybreaker and Taureor got an "Empress protects" Daybreaker.

This mod is rather amazing if you're coming in from basic HoI 4. Imagine Road to 56 tech and pretty much every single nation, except for Zebrica (The Bottom Continent), have fully fleshed out focus trees. Though do keep in mind some focus trees are more railroaded than others. Most nations get at least 2-3 branching paths, usually different ideologies or something similar, but some of them can be rather hard to do if you don't know about it in advance. Equestria is kind of a prime example there, officially it plays like democratic britain with some government reform focuses at the end, but if you know what to choose during certain events, you get everything from a civil war that let's you play as the smaller split off states, to turning into a completely authoritarian world conquering empire.

The equestrian civil war is fun too. To get to that, just fail badly at Luna's project to integrate the batponies. Your decisions in the following event-chain will decide the starting conditions of the war, and you get to pick either side to play as, or sit it out as one of the puppet states. The changelings are likely to attack during the civil war. But the civil war also helps to end the stagnation of harmony earlier, allowing an earlier buildup.

My guess as to why people love it is because it's extremely memeable just like Sponge Bob or older cartoons. And the hate comes exactly from "nah, you can't watch that, it's aimed at X" crowd. Tbh this mod has a lot of collaborations with other mods and you can enable them if you want to play human. If I recall you can even put NCR against Red Army in this one. P.S.: there's an option in game preset that asks which path you want dread league to take. Choose both.

You need planes as that is still the airforce even though the Pegasus can fly they are your elite special forces unit so you still need planes in this you need a lot when going up against changeling lands

it is a fun mod, has a lot more than you see in the normal focus trees, a good example : if you conquer the hole continent of griffonia you can a second focus tree for reformes (which at that point it matters not but it is nice flavour)

Equestria is the first continent they made, it's still very good, but the countries that came out later have greatly raised the quality bar. I strongly recommend playing for Hippogryphia - a kingdom and sea ponies located in the northwest of Zebrika for the Communists. An incredibly worked-out path.

If some of the stuff related to lore and such feels overbeering and that you need to watch the show to understand most of it is...partially the case. Mod in itself is inspired upon a show but most of the stuff in it is pure fanfiction, like Griffonia (continent on the right) has maybe one canon nation of Griffonstone and that's it for griffons, rest is made up by the dev team, so playing this and hardly understanding what is going on is just basic confusion to a new setting, you don't need to watch the show since everything is already explained here, some characters and motifs are from the show and they lay fundations on core content, to which mod team built upon. So, if you come into this thing open minded and be willing to read some of the stuff that mod has, you don't need any other media to understand the stories.

I've been holding off on trying this mod for years after first hearing of it, dismissing it due to being a My Little Pony mod. But after hearing time and again of how good it was supposed to be I did give in and tried it at some point. And it was totally worth it! It is without a doubt one of the best mods for HoI4 currently in inexistence. Even if you are not into the puns and backstory, it has really great an innovative mechanics and fun focus trees with lots and lots of options. Also anyone who thinks this mod is child-friendly is sorely mistaken. You can play nations that base their economy on slavery and raiding neighbors for example and either abolish that or fully learn into it. One nation even unleashes a magically enhanced plague on their neighbor, which I strongly suspect to be an option for the player to do, albeit I've so far only been on the receiving end, due to not having played the attacking nation so far. In regards to Pegasi: Mechanically speaking they are paratroopers, not an airforce, so you need fighters even more (and transport planes) if you want to get the full use out of them.

Clarification on Pegasi: They're basically Paratroopers combined with Motorized, they're fast and they hit hard, and they get supply use reduction due to being special forces. Any pony nation should do their best to lean into using as many pegasi troops as they can because they're just really freaking strong.

The continent of Equus as a whole is actually pretty weak. It's currently undergoing a massive overhaul update to make it better. Griffonia and North Zebrica offer a significantly stronger gameplay experience. And if you do end up watching more of the show it'll probably give you as much appreciation for the mod as it gives you gripes with it.

my classic war with the changelings often involves Co-op Equestria and Crystal empire, focusing on defence with Equestria, real life Soviet Union style, and once the Changelings take over a third of Equestria you cut them off pushing through the crystal empire. Requires infrastructure planning
