Good shit, good shit... I was born in '82, and was around 4-5 years old the first time I saw this commercial, and instantly fell in love with and became obsessed with "Waiting for a Girl Like You" by Foreigner (and subsequently fell in love with Foreigner in general), and for whatever reason, that song always felt kind of...spooky/creepy to me, and it still has that spooky/creepy feel about it despite now being 36 years old, which is weird. And to this day, that song is my most favorite song on the planet, and probably always will be. (But extremely close runners-up "Cool Night" by Paul Davis, Killer Queen by Queen, Thriller (no need to state who the artist is, unless you just crawled up from under a rock), and nearly any/every song ever made by Chicago, most especially "Baby, what a big surprise". So, the only 5 year-old on the block belting out "Waiting for a Girl Like You" incessantly, who was also in love with Dan Rather, and an all-consuming obsession with Robert Stack (also obsessed with Unsolved Mysteries in general), telling all my kindergarten classmates that my biggest goal in life was to marry Robert Stack, who at the time was almost 69 years old.....that combined with telling anyone who asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, that I so badly wanted to become a forensic entomologist (in those exact words).....all combined to create a perfect storm responsible for shaping me into a creepy, eccentric and downright odd little girl, a 6 year old in love with a man 13 times her own age, that had the career aspirations of a geek working in a field that most grown adults haven't heard of and don't even know exists, and who, to this day, still gets the creepy-feel-y's everytime she hears her favorite song for the billionth time. (Basically, I've been 50 years-old since I was 6.) That incredibly long reminiscent ramble aside...I remember this commercial exactly, word for word, song for song, and it brings back so many memories from my childhood and was responsible for creating my taste in music, from Foreigner to Sergio Mendes to Air Supply, and everyone in between. Good times, good times....
