i'm 48 and watching Commercials of the 80s. Better than today's TV

God there is a magic to kids commercials from this era that is like the biggest nostalgia bait to me. Even though I was born in '85 so all my solid memories start at the end of this decade...

I know people say this channel is like a time machine, but this video truly is, as it depicts advertising and television, and how it evolved over the decade. Brilliant video, and happy 800!

I have that 1989 airing of Bugs's Bunny How-O-Ween and It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on tape (in fact, I'm watching it right now!) It actually cuts off at the first few seconds of several of those commercials in the last bit, including the Hallmark, Sunmaid Raisens, and Fruity Pebbles ones, so it's nice to see the full things. Ah, Halloween 1989. I was Batman that year.

3:00 Appropriately for Halloween, I believe the father in the Honey Nut Cheerios commercial is Burke Byrnes, who appeared in "Child's Play 3" and "Witchboard".

I got the Millennium Falcon for Christmas 1980. It was awesome for at least another 7 years! I don't remember anyone owning that Imperial Attack Base. Matter of fact, I don't remember this existing! I remember the Imperial Probot set with the Rebel Cannon...I saw that plenty of times. I always loved those Puppet McNuggets. That Wrigley's Spearmint Gum jingle is infectious. Red Lobster for lunch....I guess $5 isn't bad for the late 80s? Whispers "Sizzler" Wow, I completely thought Joel Hyatt was a local Portland attorney..."You have my word on it!" DuckTales was awesome! Remember the days when you could eat in at Pizza Hut? Admittedly, the last time I did was to get items for The Phantom Menace in 1999. That Special Presentation bumper always gets me. That's when you knew the good stuff was about to come on! The Fruity Pebbles rap by Barney Rubble was ever-present in my 8th Grade world. We did love Fruity Pebbles in a major way! Great volume! Congratulations on 800!

Arm and Hammer Commercial- That husband sure gets impressed easily by something as simple as Baking Soda. Missing PSA- That kid in the photo looks like he's smiling and cringing at the same time. Commercial Bumpers- I always love the artwork they used to represent each show. Simple, but effective. P.S. Congratulations on reaching 800 videos of 80's commercials. :)

Congratulations on the 800th video of 1980s commercials! Re: The Paul Laxalt ad. My guess is Paul's attention was turned more in the direction of chairing the Presidential campaign of close friend Ronald Reagan. One other piece of trivia: Joel Hyatt (in the Hyatt Legal Services ad) is the son-in-law of former Ohio Senator Howard Metzenbaum, and when Metzenbaum retired in 1994, Hyatt ran for the open seat but was defeated in the Republican tidal wave that year by then-Lieutenant Governor (and current Governor) Mike DeWine; and later co-founder the old Current cable network alongside Al Gore.

Hamburglar looked a lot less scary in 1986 as compared to 1985. Grimace still had those freaky lips though. Interesting product placement in the Kroger’s ad (16:08). I believe Kroger used commercials featuring “Alex” for a while as I recall seeing them on TV as a small girl in the early 90s. 32:54- This is one of my absolute favorite 80s commercials. Love the heartwarming jingle!

Kenner didn't bother to update the theme of its Millennium Falcon commercial for "The Empire Strikes Back." That Star Destroyer was definitely a toy that relied on imagination, so much so that I didn't see it as necessary for me.

i just did a quick search for Jose Dominguez. He was never found, but two of his "friends" that he met up with on the night of his disappearance were charged with his murder eight years later. i don't understand how two people can be charged nearly a decade later without having found a body. Jose's family members are still searching for him. i hope they get some sort of closure soon.

Gotta do all these separately! Block 1: I had no idea the GRINCH had a Halloween special! That's cool. The "Star Destroyer" is cool how it mounts on your arm but that's about it. Also Chewbacca does NOT say "YEAH!" Block 2: I watched the Garfield Halloween Special every year and even got the accompanying comic-style book "Garfield in Disguise" that follows allowing with the special. Block 3: Nice to see the Garfield end credits again but that dang CBS voiceover went over the whole end theme! Ugh but sadly The Great Pumpkin is no longer on regular TV as of this year. Larry Cedar was in the Kroger ad! Block 4: These commercials came from WTTG and not WTIC. Those were some cringe-worthy Three Stooges in that McDonalds ad! That dang pumpkin again from last year!!!!! Block 5: I remember seeing that Hallmark ad reviewed on the old X-Entertainment.com site! It's been years since I saw it again. THIS IS MY COSTUME! Overall thanks for another great year of Halloween ads!

I'm A Big Girl Now-yet you still rely on your mother Darth Vader's Star Destroyer-Luke shouldnt be that hard to find since he's presumably drifting in space Imperial Attack Base-Han:"What the-Chewie when did you start talking???" The Equalizer-McCall learned that a organization named Cobra-Kai has been targeting his son Kroger-with Daphne Maxwell Reid Sizzler-actress in the middle is Gail Edwards,better known as Danny's love interest on Full House Signet Bank-Mike:"My favorite bank,you ask..? It's THIGNET." Wonderful World Of Disney end credits-those hookers better call The Monster Squad No Peaceable Kingdom tonight..? :( then again CBS was about to cancel the series anyway CBS Special Presentation Bumper-that never gets old

Wowzers! 1980! That's the year I'm looking for. I'm amazed that anyone had VCRs/ Beta yet. A VCR in '80 was approx $1400 aka $3200 in 2020 money! Maybe they dubbed it off the live feed? The quality is amazing.
@andrejg41364 жыл бұрын
Well, this is probably from '85, so VCRs were starting to come down to middle/lower-middle level. I think it wasn't until the late 80s when you could walk into a Wal-Mart or Sears and just straight up buy a generic VCR if you were a lower-middle/working class family.

I agree, since I prefer the real dairy one myself, though maybe it can be an option for those who are fully lactose intolerant. The rest of us how ever...hand over that can of Reddi Wip or any premade aerosol whipped cream in a can made from real cream. Yea got a three pack of Reddi from Sam's Club and liked it.
