80's Commercials Vol. 82

These commercials aired on local NBC affiliate KRON on January 26th, 1986. Thanks to my Uncle for recording these.

The baby in the United Way commercial (Howie Long's son) is now a defensive end for the St. Louis Rams. That's kind of cool to see him as a baby in a commercial.

Kenny Rogers seemed to be everywhere during the early-mid 1980s; whether it be the CBS version of We've Got the Touch for 1985 or the Volvo commercial here (to say nothing about how big his songs {by himself or duets with the likes of Dolly Parton and Sheena Easton} were on the country and in some cases pop charts)

That "100% Guaranteed...period" line really sounded familiar. Did B of A use that slogan a lot throughout the 80s? 86 seems a tad too early for me to remember a commercial (I was 2.5 years old when these aired.)

I think I remember the old KRON 4 logos, where the 4 is placed over part of the Golden Gate Bridge.

0:20--Wow; I didn't know that BankAmeriCard existed in 1986, or that it came in both Visa and MasterCard! My recollection is that BankAmeriCard was the forerunner of today's Visa, and that Bank of America sold their credit card business in 1976 or 1977 (I was VERY young then, as in single digits), when the cards were rebranded as Visa. Maybe the 1980's BankAmeriCard was regional--the ad mentions California, and I'm from Iowa.

HA! California lottery! My grandparents spent $200.00 a week for ten years (no lie) on the California lottery back in the late 80's and early 90's. They were convinced they were going to hit it rich but never one a dime!

that woman was weird looking at 1:55 why would you want to advertise yourself as a "quiet company?" (Northwestern Mutual) what in the world is this "Hilton?" those figure skaters are sure blasts from the past did anyone else notice that the song in the background of the "United Way" commercial is "Memory" from "Cats?" 40 phone conversations?! WOW!!! ahh, yes, everyone needs an "I (heart) my Volvo" bumper sticker!

Why, exactly, is showing boat and F1 racing supposed make me want to stay a Hilton hotel? Was actually showing the business center in the hotel(s) really that much out of the question? "We need an ad campaign for Hilton to appeal to business travelers." "So, we'll show the hotel services that cater to their needs?" "No, I'm thinking more like racing." "So...F1 cars?" "Yes! Oh, and boats too."
