I remember going to watch ice racing many times as a kid in the 80s and 90s on a local ice track in Finland, many Beetles and Fiat 850s with crazy long spikes and tuned engines (and a lot of dents) going around. Great fun! Later had some unofficial "racing" on the same ice where we plowed our own track, I had a Fiat 127 with spiked front tires, and it spat flames through a motorcycle muffler, raced against a Lada that got stuck on every lap in the same patch of snow, and some unrecognizable Datsun sedan with bullbars. Crazy!

@TheVonMatrices3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you're talking about. In the crash, the camera got pointed at the sun and overexposed the sensor, which is the streak you're seeing.
@AaronSmart.online3 жыл бұрын
@working_country ___ yeah, that's an artefact of tube-based image sensors (vidicon, etc.), this is definitely not a solid state camera. They were still widely used in TV production at the time as broadcast quality CCD cameras weren't really there yet. Pointing them at the sun directly could potentially cause permanent damage, but it depends on many factors.

If only them ''crazies'' knew how gradualy valuable them ''11-12-13-14'' year old cars were to get in our times. Some things are just not worth freezing your betacams off. :) Special cars/carts should be built for scrap'em races like these. I'm been sentimental, don't mind me, I love older cars.
@AaronSmart.online3 жыл бұрын
Can't save them all! And cars just didn't last as long back then, most of these were probably already rotten and barely roadworthy

@@AaronSmart.online You are right Aaron, it's just I got sentimental thats all. Btw, I believe cars of older generations lasted better than modern cars. But I do get your point, they were probably not worth saving at the time they were made ice-dodgem-racers. : )

My how times have changed. Back then, once cars were 10 years old, they were ready for the scrap heap. Today, they're still worth $10,000 or more and can probably go another 10 or 15 years! Not to mention, in these Covid times, it's hard to find any car, new or used, regardless of price. But if one was to get a car for ice racing, it would probably mean getting a rusted out late 1980s or early 1990s car, so at least 30 years old!
