I'm gonna be fair here, my 3 year old msi does 13-14 both on hibernate and shutdown. Even if it does 20 I'm okay, the thing is these days every device is so fast that no one would consider counting the second but I'm actually from the dial up generation so I know the real pain. The extra boot up time was due to the DDR5 memory training. It is also present in desktops. DDR4 memory training does not take as long as DDR5 memory training.

Can you explain the meaning of 'training'? Is it similar to training an ML model?

@@gamersanditparadise It's a part of the POST process that the motherboard and CPU work together to ensure that all installed RAM are powered on, synchronizing the frequency, applying memory settings(such as the XMP profile), etc, then do a few quick tests to ensure the RAM modules are working properly according to those settings. Since DDR5 is running so fast and it's running in a fake dual channel setup for a single memory channel, it does take a while to ensure that the training is done right. Hence why the extra boot time, it has nothing to do with the storage like the NVMe SSD not being fast enough.

Bigger the SSD the more time it takes to boot up. It does not conclude just by the boot up time which laptop is the faster if the SSD isn’t same size.

@@gamersanditparadise No, memory training is when your memory controller validates and tests memory settings and timings at boot, sometimes automatically adjusting subtimings. The slowest DDR5 is already running at speeds where DDR4 starts to behave very strangely so on some DDR5 platforms it can take well over a minute to make sure it's even stable enough to boot.

That's not a fair comparison. That's not only included boot up but also powering the board. And, as you can see, the Scar has a power on keyboard animation. There's a lot happening before the actual boot up of the operating system.

I'm very much aware of this, and had thought about it in depth, but decided to start recording the time right after hitting the power button. The reason is, this implementation on the Scar is taking way longer than ROG's prior iterations (like 2020, 2021 and so on) with per key RGB which used to take far less time to get to the boot screen, almost identical to the G14 shown in the video. That is why I decided to keep it this way, as this is actually an issue. Otherwise as far as actual boot time goes, both should be pretty even.

There are animations in the per key rgb keyboard tho. And let me tell you that intel alderlakes additional layer of security on the Intel 12th Gen Evo boards could explain why boot times are longer.

Hmm of course, I know that the RGB does contribute to the delay in boot time. But the prior generations of ROG laptops (with per key RGB) were a lot faster at initializing the RGB drivers than this Scar SE, so just to create awareness regarding this, I decided to measure boot time right after hitting the power button. The additional security measures as far as I can recall, are disabled on 12th Gen gaming ones, they are not Evo certified. But again, maybe 12th Gen's hybrid architecture could have something to do with it.

Yeah, boot time has reached a point of diminishing returns nowadays. If you uninstall the bloatware that comes preinstalled on Asus (and most laptops in general), your laptop will boot a lot faster than mine. Even though mine has a 2TB SSD in RAID 0 configuration, still it boots slower than my Zephyrus G14 which has a slow 512GB Intel SSD lol.

I've a vivobook pro 15 m3500QC(ryzen 7 5800h). It boots almost instantly. Maximum 5 Seconds. It's not a game oriented laptop. But it still has a rtx 3050 ti(4 gb). What I'm trying to say is that pure gaming laptops take significantly more time to boot than laptops which aren't meant for pure gaming
