This reminds me of a friend of my brothers in high school. He use to work at an auto parts store. He put a 350 small-block flat track racing V-8 in a Willis pickup, set up with full drag racing slicks. At my high school they, literally had a bleach box start area next to the school buildings for people doing burnouts at lunch time. (the high school had recently put in speed bumps). "Ken", had gone through the line and was frustrated at having to wait his turn to go again so, turning into the middle lane of the parking lot he stepped on it. The Willis went sideways tearing the motor mounts and axle out of the back end.

Cam and compression play a big role. Boost is hard on engines even with soft tune ups, this one has never seen nitrous. This clutch was an ACT metallic disc diaphragm setup with .040 Of air gap, and it was just a touch too aggressive for this combo. Car is getting some front suspension and chassis work done but it will be back. Rear suspension is stock length urethane control arms with 50/50 shocks, stock springs with one coil cut, and Lakewood trac bars. Best of 1.41 short.

Late on the first and second shift, limbo time between shifts got you past 8000, not sure if you got a rev limiter or what that bad boy makes power up to. 84-8700? When does the valve train get unhappy? 9000? I do not like that limbo time in between shifts, it looks like 400rpm it free revs before loading up on the next gear. Rev limiter won't save it if you miss the shift if you have it set near the motors rev limit. That's why we go with automatics lol. Top loader as in old school? I think it was mainly trucks but I remember seeing some 390 mustang fastbacks with one and a Fairlane. I remember back in the 80's, IHRA event, exhibition race with a 6 second 57 Chevy vs a wicked 56-57 t-bird, blown alcohol, but not a standard hemi type engine, it was a Ford "shot gun" motor. This was back in the day where shit like that was all done by hand, not c&c like today. If you had dart ANYTHING, it was like you owned a helicopter or yaht. Anyway, t-bird, 427 shotgun motor backed up with a 4 speed, lol who the hell has the balls for that now? Fuckn bitchn car dude, nasty nasty as hell. High 6's these cars ran. With a 4 speed and clutch? LMFAO that's insane, but in a badass way. Burn outs, they stage....WAHHHAARRRRR Amber Amber Am DUMP THE CLUTCH, BAM!!! Blew the fucker up at the line. Cool shit.

Now that the SBF has the Boss block option and the Dart SHP you can build nasty roller motors unless you went Windsor. For so long the aftermarket was expensive but now you can get heads and the top end stuff for reasonable prices. Fought with the 2-bolt stuff forever but now it is Boss 44-bolt and ridiculous power without fear of cracking. Boss 347 with Hellion 6266 but no way are we pushing it past 7200. That is where the rev limiter STAYS for us. :) Teenage racer for a driver so he won't back off until he crosses no matter the RPMS. nice run!
