I had an lc with a 265 hemi six pack 4 inch bore and 120thou offset grind crank with a 15 inch engine set back,on the streets of brisbane in the mid 90s it was unbeaten,was Probally a mid 11sec car. fuck it was mental.Never raced Andy fox or the top hitters but it surprised everyone.

I'm 62, and have owned my LC gtr since May 1978 ( bought it 10 weeks before my 16th birthday ). I went through the go faster stage, eventually running a pro-stroke 235 with a garrett strata turbo with a 48mm Dellorto / supra 5 speed 3.36lsd combo. eventually got sick of the constant tuning / maintenance regimen and pulled it all out for an RB30et / tremmec TKO and 3.25lsd 9". the car is super reliable, i hardly ever touch it mechanicaly now and it is super smooth in traffic or goes like a rocket riding coyote when i want it to. good to see i am not the only "mature man child" to still be messing with toys.

I know he doesn't like to think about dyno figures too much but I like to use them as a comparitive tool. If you doubled this cubic inch you would be in the 900hp range with a 400ci which is about right for a 1.5ftlbs per cubic inch engine. This is right in the range of cup car performance. I also watched a video about a track E49 that was making 450hp and that was worked like hell for this Holden to be making the same power with 63 less cubes is a fair effort.

Fan bloody tastic. Not bad for a car that was originally derived from a little ol' Vauxhall. 460 bhp would make it a helluva lot more powerful than a similarly-sized Ferrari engine from a 275 GTB/4 with twice the cylinders & carbies & 4 times the camshafts. The Fezza might be a bit more streetable, although they revved pretty high, too. And all to win a bet of a six pack from his doubting mates. Hope it's not some crap like Tooheys or VB.

Kudos needs to be given regardless of your affiliation. I'm a a motorhead and I love all cars whether its a v8 ,rotary or straight 6 . It's about recogniizing those that push the the limits and getting the umbers out of all engines. Man I have to say though isnt that is a great little torry from the 70's . 10 sec's ,Congrats.

The builder is far king great! As for that engine, he's downplayed how much effort it takes to get a red motor to not grenade itself pulling those kind of revs, when they were originally valve bouncing at about half that! I've owned and blown quite a few of them - it's not hard to get a monster cam in there and big revs, but you gotta be so careful and have good self control. The red motors (stock cranks) are poorly balanced and there is a harmonic (I think it was 5750rpm) that caused horrendous trouble. The cast blocks move around so much that if you rev them hard and don't spit a rod, you'll throw the balancer off or chew the main bearings to buggery. I blew up one red motor when I was accelerating hard in second and hit some water on the road. Instant wheelspin and the revs peaked well off the 8,000rpm tacho... tick-tick-tick-clunk-clunk-clunk-bang-bang-clang-DEAD.

My T- Bucket did 11.9 seconds.1250kg 400hp 351.300hp at the wheels also.I was the fasted on the day.The cop car did 12.5 sec .So much Hp out of this 202 is nuts.

the story behind this was good to watch ... and hes 100% right, High dyno figures don't really mean faster 1/4 times. when it come to drag racing there's wheel size, diff ratios gear ratios that combination with a stock engine can improve a 1/4 mile time drastically... my car pulled 583rwkw and i bet if i ran it down the track against something like a 350rwkw Mitsubishi Evo. i'd say i'm 80% sure hes beating me with all wheel drive shorter gears

I had a LC GTR Torana at 17 , not an XU1 just a GTR that got you 186 ci , M20 factory 4 speed and Disk Brakes / LSD Banjo diff ! My only problem in Brisbane in 1990 was with 3 loverly ladys from Toombul Skating Rink/ Shopping centre i kept stuffing uni joints proving the 235/13 inch Yokohama 352 s made lots of smoke ! Lol

I always wanted to put a Chev 292 ci six and Saginaw 4 speed in a LC Torana 2 door , the Chev six is almost identical to the Holden six , put 186 stickers on the 292 and im guessing 95 percent of people would never know ! Thats a 4.8 litre monster !

Ya got a rippa there bloke. I suppose you're running the good cast pistons, Starfire rods, and the race 186 head with 202 valves. That cam sounds like a 3/4 race job, maybe even close to a full race cam. Brocky run one of them. He did 9s in the quarter too. Careful on those takeoffs, the banjo might let go one day. Anyway, I'll be up there with ya soon. I building a killa 138 to speedway spec, gonna put it in me HK. Dad always said the grey motors were the best. Bob Sherry ran 10's in a 6cyl Torana 35years ago when he raced street cars, back then was a big deal then he went in raced super stock A-Street with Peter Michaels bob had the 2nd and Pete 1st fastest 304 V8 in the country and raced top Fuel, any one who drag races knows who Bob Sherry is, he build lots of quick cars in Adelaide raced him many times in my 327 stroked 308 HQ Monaro you got nice cars bro love LC & LJ Toranas

Friends of mine had a gen LC GTR which did around 12's back in the 1980's and then got it down to 11's, which is a lot for a 186 block and in the 1980's think about it with the hi performance parts these days it would be easy and expensive as well, more over i still have not seen a Gen GTR with factory running gear do the 1/4 mile?

When are people going to stop bullshitting, even through a big auto, fat converter, and drag radials, you should be figuring on about 20% drivetrain loss at most in a front-engine rear-wheel-drive car. And that's 20% of the rear wheel figure, so if this makes (for example) 310 horsepower at the rears, a safe estimate for flywheel horsepower is 372.
