Funny, you can clearly see ledecky kicking harder on the last 50m, but the speed remains pretty much the same. combine that with the fact that she barely kicks during the race (almost 2 beat kick). Kicking doesn't necessarily making you faster, it really depends on the style and stroke rate..

Yup, seen really fast Triathlon swimmers kick very little on purpose to save the leg muscles for the cycling parts too. They could add kick and win 1-3 mins but would lose 4-20 mins on the bike (depending on distance)

@@barath4545 yes that is a known concept. And still she barely kicks and have the same speed when she kicks more.

Actually she brings in a fast kick at the end to bolster her stroke because even KL gets tired at the end of a really fast 800. And you get quite a bit of power out of a 2 beat kick.

First of all she never tested positive in any games she competed. Do you know that she’s been competing since 2012 and she never lost 800 because she was good. You are looking a 3 three peat Olympic champion on the same event.
