800m Pacemaker Fail

He was told for some reason that it was a 600m race and was told to hit around 1:25. Not his fault but definitely dumb on the meets end

Even so they started at the 800m mark and surely he would’ve been able to use his own brain cells and realised it was 800m.

I remember him coming through just under 50sec at 400m. That's pretty much perfect on WR pace and likely what he was told to do given the quality of the field. The field just started slow

He didn't even go out that fast btw. World record is 1:40.91, and Rudisha split 23.4s for the first 200. This guy ran 24.xx for the first 200, which would put everyone else on pace to run 1:42-1:44 which is very doable and realistic for a Dianond League race. The problem is just that the racers had a different plan than what the pacemaker was told to do, and decided to make the race tactical and go slow over the start

He went to the 400 in 49"25 while Rudisha had gone to 49"28, plus it is Rudisha we are talking about not just anyone, he definitely started too strong.

The announcers saying he was a pacer, the comments say he thought it was a 600m. I can promise you he simply went out fast and wanted to hang on as best he could. 99% of the time the pacers dont finish. So the announcers are wrong. And the 600m is so rarely run outdoors i highly doubt he believed it was a 600m. So many silly folks in here
