805 - HGIBO Gundam Astaroth Origin (OOB Review)

The story of Astaroth is that the family that owned the suit lost their money and sold all the armor off it, now the protagonist of the manga pilots the suit and works with a son of that family that owns it in order to get all the parts back and get revenge. The origin form being the "true" Astaroth, and the first kit (the white and blue one) the make-shift armor. The arm is from a Man Rodi, the shield is a Hyakuren skirt piece I think. On the Astaroth Origin the attachment that hold the sword better transfers energy from the ahab reactor to power up the sword.

the shoulder wings are called variable blade shields and are also used on the kallisto which is a customized version of the hyakuri

The cool thing about the IBO series suits is that the gunplas inspires the purchase by letting us pick and mix which combinations fit our aesthetics and that gives us more freedom to mix and match stuff up. Its really a genius way to make us buy more kits and they are really cheap compared to other HGs.

Anyone else reminded of Bloodborne with this Suit's accessories? Its sword/hammer combo is comparable to the Kirkhammer, and it includes a shotgun. Too bad the shotgun can't be equipped in the left hand.

Yup i was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this kits weapons. i suppose its possible to use a generic angled left hand (if you can find one) on it instead, Decent kit but think ill wait on this one until my painting skills improve.

I've found that the crimson back armor actually inhibits the frame, preventing the torso from tilting back as far as other kits like the Barbatos.

I ended up taking off the chest sticker on mine. It just stood out too much, especially since I had to reapply it. I honestly like it better without the crest on the chest.

This review covers the bases pretty well. It's a really nice kit, but much less so if you're planning to leave it OOB. There are some big parts that are meant to be colored that they don't even give you stickers for, so painting really is just necessary for this kit. I only used the emblem stickers. I sliced away the excess and just left the white so they look sharp, and I found this was a good enough alternative to having to get custom waterslides. I'm really happy with the finished kit, and it wasn't some massive amount of work, but it's just simply not a kit for OOB builders. You need to have some intermediate paint and panel skills.

one way i overcome the unmolded marking like the chest and shoulder blades is by putting the stickers on a piece of masking tape and cutting out the shapes with design knives.

A sledgehammer that also acts as the sheathe of the sword? Sounds cool but doesn't exactly feel very logical. Wouldn't the blade of the sword break from the impact of using the sledgehammer? Would've much preferred two separate weapons but that's just me.

They're not going to do that. BUT if you carefully trim away the excess, you can make the crappy stickers it comes with look a lot better. At least the emblem stickers (paint everything else).

i feel that the wings on this kit is kina dumb. Such a big piece but wings that people rarely gonna use it. if i were to design it i would make them as shields as its huge or combine both into a buster sword of something. Just my opinion anyways.

shame on the dark grey and light grey sticker that should be a colored part by itself. and the emblem sticker on the side just.. I can see it peeled off like 5 days after this review. foil stickers are only for the eye and camera part, not wrapping an entire single part like that, and a foil sticker on a non flat part just.. hideous.
