Got a question and I can't find any videos on my issue. I am having a BITCH of a time trying to get my rear wheel to line up perfectly straight, to where the drive chain doesn't rub up on the rear wheel. How do I fix that issue? 3/4 of the wheel clears the chain, but when it's rotating I can't see and hear the chain rubbing when the wheel wobbles a bit while I'm spinning the tire. I can't fkn figure out for the life of me why I can't figure out a solution. I REFUSE to pay a bike shop $40 for such a simple thing. I should know how to do it and I don't and it's pissing me off. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🤘🏽

Good video , I used a wheel and ground down my dust cap and used it a s spacer over the motor sprocket and the brake arm clears the bolts and keeps everything tight while still protecting the bearings .

3rd motor in. completely tore apart 2 rear assemblies attempting to find out what every self proclaimed mechanic in my neighborhood couldn't seem to help with. (How the rear assembly works with a coaster brake). If I had found this video sooner I don't think the chain would have snapped off the second motor and the first braking mechanism would have worked out without replacing the 1st one. Now all I need is a video on removing the coaster brake without stripping the nut and how to re-center the inner parts so my chain isn't so close to the tire.

you dont need to throw out your dust cap. You can dremel out the opening in the sprocket to be large enough to go over the dust cap and save your bearings.

Hughes motorized has a video about trimming the dust cover down so you do not have to automatically chuck it. It is not all that difficult to do, either.

i have done that before , you have to trim so much off its like you aren't using one anyway plus i never ride in super dusty offroad areas anyway so it doesnt matter

@jumpa01 i think people know not to stomp on the brakes doing 40mph the bike will slide down and it will ruin your day thas why i sujest in other videos to put a cable brake on the front wheel for added braking also what is with the grease crack if you dont like the video fine i figured i would make the video to help make sure someone does not have there bearings fly apart on them from lack of grease dont blame me if you did something wrong be mad at yourself

I left the dust cap on and placed the new sprocket over it. I found an untraceable rubbing and chain not moving as it should. Now I see that I must remove it and rebuild. Any advice on which way the sprocket should face?
@TheRandomMechanic7 жыл бұрын
i normally face the sprocket out so the chain is the furthest from the tire i have had problems in the past with the chain eating away at the sidewall causing blowouts ,
@TheRandomMechanic11 жыл бұрын
you do have to bend the coaster brake lever to clear you need to toss the dust cover it will rub the sprocket if you dont these motors work suprisingly well on the 29" genesis onyx from walmart very mean looking bike my only gripe is you have to throw away the handlebars and buy smaller ones because the throttle doesnt fit the larger tube used on the bike

do you mean the hole in the middle of the sprocket no i left it alone you can open it up if you have to the guts in a stock HiStop coaster brake fit perfectly through the middle of the sprocket if you need to open the hole up you can file it or use a dremel to get the desired clearance

What does it mean when u try to brake and the engine makes the pedals turn despite you countering the forward motion

It usually means that the coaster brake arm is stripped out , the hole with the two flat sides has become completely rounded out

Hey man, building the motorised bike and I've got the default alloy wheels... but was planning on reinforcing the spokes with copper wire and solder. Do you think this would be much of a problem?
@Fcreveryoung10 жыл бұрын
While it's a very interesting idea, the spokes need to remain tuned and flexible. The more tension you add to them the greater offset tune you are likely to face. I would recommend something like the 'manic Mechanic hub adaptor' rather than potentially damaging your spokes. It's all up to you, and if you actually follow through with the soldering project I would love to watch a video of it. Really an intriguing concept :) ~Mike

So can I just take the coaster arm off completely?
@TheRandomMechanic Жыл бұрын
And leave it off ? No that is the only way your brakes can operate and without it the first time you forget and pedal back your brake will overtighten and your axle will either break , threads will strip or it will spin in place damaging your entire hub and probably the rear of the frame , i had the coaster arm center strip out once and thats what happened .
@jefftober7252 Жыл бұрын
I have other brakes. I don't want the coaster brake. Not worried about that. Worried about fitting sprocket on back rim. Without the coaster brake working. So it will spin free backwards. Like you can pedals backwards with a freewheel.

On the rear sprocket what side is the best, teeth facing in or out toward the frame? I see yours is facing out?
@TheRandomMechanic10 жыл бұрын
sorry it took so long to get back to you this whole new comment system is junk i tried every day to answer my comments but the reply button didnt work its working today for some reason the direction of the sprocket realy depends of your bike if it looks like the teeth or chain will rub your tire or frame then you can turn the sprocket around to get some more clearance you can then use the tensioner to align the chain where the sprocket meets by tiping it left or right slightly to center the chain links with the sprocket teeth

what happens if you remove the coaster brake arm only,and put the wheel on and start ride n
@TheRandomMechanic8 жыл бұрын
the coaster brake hub needs the arm to function properly it might work normally unless you back peddle at all or the brake is somehow engaged due to centrifugal force , in that instance your peddles will be forced forward and your hub assembly may over tighten itself since the parts that were originally stationary can now spin with the torque of the brake causing self destruction of the hub , i had a brake arm strip out once and that is what happened to me thats when i switched to the star pattern brake arm ,

@steviemagana76459 жыл бұрын
My braking all the sudden got extremely sensitive and will squill really loudly. Any ideas?
@TheRandomMechanic9 жыл бұрын
Stevie Magana either the coaster brake needs to be cleaned and re greased or the inside of your brake surface is worn down to the point that it is fixing to break internally or lock up look for scoring on the inside surfaces , metal shavings , or old nasty grease , it could also be that your brake arm has been wallowed out and can spin on the shaft if that happens the nut will over tighten when you brake and cause severe damage often busting the rear hub in half
@jamescollins44658 жыл бұрын
just got in to this for a hobby, I got a huffy cranbrook got the motor and everything together,put the sprocket and hub in the back,could not get the coaster brake arm to fit, so I took it off and put the wheel back on ,have not drove the bike yet is it ok to ride
@TheRandomMechanic8 жыл бұрын
if the arm wouldnt fit what you need to do is bend it so it will fit , it is not a good idea to drive it without the arm attached unless you want to replace the rear wheel or end up going to the hospital it could literally lock up self destruct at any moment without the arm , every bike i have ever made needed the brake arm bent to fit after the sprocket was added , its annoying but necessary , btw nice choice with the cranbrook which one did you go with ? the black and green one walmart has now looks pretty boss
