It was all over the news in 1995. Our local radio station just dedicated an hour playing his whole discography with a few in-between breaks by the DJ to remeber him by because he met him personally at one of his concerts before his death and he was a fan of his music. To think, someone that young and at his peak was taken from us that early.

I'm just gonna consolidate all the lore I like into one consistent timeline for the hell of it. Pre Malone was born in 1962 and was a popular rapper and singer throughout the 80s, albeit a controversial figure due to his face tattoos. He gained his prominence in the early 80s through collaborations with George Michael. He released this song, 'Circles' in the summer of '84 to massive success, landing on the soundtrack in a '86 movie starring a young Robert Downey Jr and Ariana Venti (the mother of Ariana Grande lol). The song managed to maintain radio play well into the late 90s and after his untimely death. He had beef with Michael Jackson in '86 after a short fling with Janet Jackson. Has a daughter named Water Malone and then passed away in 1995 shortly after the birth of his son Post Malone. There are differing accounts of his death ranging from drug overdose, being killed in a car accident after running a red light, being mysteriously murdered in his home, to faking his death and moving to Canada (I choose to believe in a combination of all the above lol). RIP in peace Pre Malone (1962-1995)

Dear Austin Richard Post Sr., Sometimes at random instances throughout the day, I think of you. I think of how thankful I am to have you in my life and about how your music spoke to me. When I felt like I had nowhere left to turn, there you were with an open heart and open arms. I never knew how much you would mean to me when I first listened to your music. There is just something I needed to say to you. Thank you for helping me find myself. You told me that this was my time to think about me and to be a little selfish. You helped me to realize my worth and to never let a situation define that. No matter what, I'm still me. Though it may sound vain or conceited, you made me realize how great of a person I am. I'm proud of myself and how far I've come. I was so low and had forgotten about my own needs, but you were always there to remind me. Though there is so much more I have to say to you, this just seemed to be the most important. When I heard news of your death, a part of me inside died. I could not believe it. You died way too young. Crazy what drugs do to your body. I can't believe it has been 25 years. Thank you for getting me through my tough time. I can't express to you how much you mean to me and how great of a friend you are. I turned to you from the very beginning and you were there until the end. I owe you the world. I love you and I miss you, dear friend. Rest in Peace, the original Post Malone 1962-1995. Sincerely, your biggest fan.

The story is that he was supposed to sing a pivotal line in “We Are the World,” but he came late and drunk to the studio taping. Quincy Jones had no choice but to give that part to a young up and coming pop singer in order to get the song cut in time for worldwide release. That pop singer’s name . . . was Michael Jackson.

This brings back such good memories! I remember driving my dad’s red ‘69 Mustang Mach 1 while listening to this. Me and my girlfriend went on a road trip to Miami back in the summer of ‘84, we left Atlanta and I remember I stopped for gas at a Shell gas station and I saw his band’s cassette tape, I bought it and I didn’t think much of it but when I played it we immediately fell in love with this song. I remember cruising on the highway and just listening to this while we both sang along for hours! We had such an amazing summer together, and this song brings me back again to the good old days. Now she’s my wife and every once in a while we both listen to this song and talk about the summer of ‘84, we both laugh and think about how amazing that road trip was! Well, bad news was that I scratched my dad’s Ford in a McDonald’s parking lot and he was pretty pissed, but hey, at least I had the best summer of my life. Rest In Peace Austin Post Sr. 🕊❤️ such an amazing man! Never forget! Thank you for all the memories! Me and my wife still listen to your songs ❤️

I can't believe he got the chance to collab with Hall and Oates around this time, what a small world. I heard he got the musical inspo from them in this song. It's too bad, he never got as much credit as they did. Either way, this album popped off in 85'.

God dude, just listening to this brings the memories flooding back... I remember when this song dropped in '86. I was a Junior in highschool and I had been crushing on this girl like crazy. We ended up going to prom together that year and this was the final song of the night. We danced together and I took the oportunity to kiss her and tell her how much she meant to me. She was touched and after highschool we got married and have been together ever since. We moved to upstate New York (we were from New Jersey) and have 2 beautiful children. It really is a shame he passed in '95. He was such a legend. Thanks Post for all the wonderful songs and the memories that now come with them. Gone but never forgotten. R.I.P 1962-1995 ❤
