For some reason commercials and films around 1988-1992 had this distinct feel to them that makes me comfortable. I love that short era for films. The cinematography has that warm feel to it.

My grandma had a Geo Metro in the 90s. The AC broke fairly early and she didn’t do anything to get it fixed. I also remember it having poor acceleration. Looking back, I can totally relate to that episode of the Simpsons when Homer was chasing Ned Flanders a la Terminator 2 and Ned explained, “I can’t go any faster. It’s a Geo!”

All these ads from the end of 1992 are hitting me right in the feels. Between the $2.99 Big Mac deal, the promos for classic season 4 Simpsons episodes and the fact that I'd be getting a lot of SNES games for my birthday in December and for Christmas!

I'm surprised that at the height of Nintendo's popularity in the 80s that McDonald's didn't have a "Little Mac" deal, with Mike Tyson as the spokesperson.

Also, I don't recall ever seeing this "Pepsi / Alien" commercial before now?!? If I did, it's not hitting my memory. I'm just....shocked they would use one of the most iconic Hollywood monsters to sell soda.

I watched Fox during this period. I remember seeing promos for "Woops" and I believe I watched the first episode. Didn't watch the rest (also, that Fall I was more into Fox Kids - especially "Batman the Animated Series"). I think "Woops" got rejected so hard because there wasn't a market for "post-apocalypse" satire, because in 1992 we had just won the Cold War. The Soviet Union had collapsed a year prior, and that brought on this feeeling of "we achieved world peace!" that was prevalent in the 90's. So a TV show set after a nuclear holocaust wasn't going to cut it. Maybe such a concept for a show would've worked around 1975....

Saturn was marketed well. The big deal about it was that it was an American plant outside of Michigan, in Tennessee. Now there are auto plants all over the southeast and the rest of the country. I remember how that Saturn commercial (and probably some others) had a corresponding print ad. There is an article in Tampa Bay Times about that Robin Millage in the commercial and how she received a lot of letters from fans.

I can remember seeing a few episodes of Whoops! back in the day. Yeah, it definitely didn't look like the kind of show that would last long, people seem to prefer their post-apocalyptic shows to be dramas a la Walking Dead, and the comedy wasn't that great. I can remember VCR Plus too, the TV Guide even had codes next to shows for people to type in to record the programs. If you knew how to use it, it was just as effective for programming recording as using the menu.
