It's so interesting how these are so compelling. I know nostalgia is a huge part of it, but I even love old commercials from before I was born (74).

I watched this exact feed in 84 on KRON. Loved Knight Rider and V.

The jingle game is strong in this volume and I like it very much! 1984 has got to be one of the best year of the 80s (if not the best). Of course, I am biased because my boyfriend turns 36 today.

Not my most favorite but still pretty good. It's a part of an 80's trifecta... 1984,1985 and the pinnacle 1986! Btw I turned 54 in October...

Every time I see those Frosted Mini Wheat Commercials where the adults become children, it always reminds me of the ending to the movie, "Big" with Tom Hanks. I bet if these effects were real, people, especially the elderly, would probably go for it to become young again.

9:19 - Oh man, the "Where's the Beef" lady. I remember how this woman became a pop culture phenomenon around this time. She was everywhere. I hope she made some good money off of her brief fame, so she got to end her time well.

Wendy's fired her the next year when she did a Prego commercial where she said she "found the beef" in Prego spaghetti sauce. It's odd that Prego would even script that with a reference to the Wendy's tagline, surely knowing there would be a kerfuffle over it.

0:30 - James Hampton in the Honda commercial. I just the other day saw him in an old episode of Gunsmoke where he came to town vowing to shoot off "that little hangy-down part" of his uncle Festus's ear.

Pretty sure that's James Hampton in the Honda tractor commercial. He was a minor celebrity then, was in Teen Wolf the next year.

That scene of Mr. T laughing at 2:12 had me laughing. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a 10 hour video of said scene 🤣

0:00 I actually have that RCA remote somewhere I got it when I got my CED player. I also like that whole aesthetic that commercial has too.

@oldradios90 I totally agree that commercial was great. It was so 80's cheesy. It definitely dates itself to 1984. Btw how many people on the comments even know what a CED player was. I remember wanting one but never owning it. It wasn't until 1990 that I owned a Laserdisc player...☮

I learned about them from my dad about 2002-ish when we went to goodwill and saw a player (didn’t get it but I ended up getting my player in 2011) I got my LD player in 2013 I didn’t know what a laserdisc player was until 2001.

@Karkle I have LITERALLY only heard "i-BU-profen" in this commercial alone. Not even doctors have pronounced it this way. Is this another "gif/jif" thing?

I remember my dad had both a Betamax player AND a VHS player but a lot of VHS tapes. I was only 8 when I first saw those. I was born in the 90's I remember this original look of the McDonalds packaging. Ah simpler times Lol

Doug Henning at this time was just coming off a massive flop on Broadway, a musical/magic spectacular about the wizard Merlin, with Henning in the lead role. It was supposed to be a mix of Henning's magic act and a story based musical, but it didn't work, because Henning just did not have the acting ability to carry a production like this. At the time, it was one of the more disastrous and expensive flops in Broadway history. A before he was famous Nathan Lane played a supporting role in the show, and he was once quoted as saying, "The best trick Henning did in the show was making the audience disappear every night".

RCA "Digital Command Center" LOL the remote control that's as big as a modern tablet! I gotta admit that Mr. T laugh is pretty addictive as well but then there's the guy at 18:19 "RIIIIGHT!"

Hm, I didn't know "It's Your Move" started on Wednesdays. I started watching it on Saturday nights that same season, and one night as I waited for it, "Spencer" was on instead. I just looked up the dates and found that "Spencer" started that season on Saturdays but I didn't watch it then. "It's Your Move" was put in its Saturday night slot January 26 for a few episodes before being cancelled, and then "Spencer" was back in that time slot.

RCA had the right idea with universal remotes, but not the right method.

As a kid, I loved "The A-Team" and "Knight Rider," but as an adult, I can only tolerate the former. Nature Valley Chewy bars..."hey, let's pour some sugar on this healthy granola bar!" That NCR commercial was a pleasant surprise. Jack Riley would've been a familiar face as Mr. Carlin from "The Bob Newhart Show," and the 80s weren't the 80s without Dom Deluise! I wasn't able to watch "V" when it aired, because my brother wanted to watch something else. Fantastic show, and had decent special effects for a TV miniseries.

Yikes! No wonder Mondale lost. His campaign had all the sex appeal of aluminum siding.
@80sCommercialVault

Mondale lost because the economy bounced back in 1983-84 and saved Reagan. This is often incorrectly attributed to Reagan's economic policies (aka Reaganomics) but it's mostly because the economy was extremely depressed in 1982 and rapid growth commonly occurs after a deep economic slump like the one we were in. Mondale was not a strong candidate and his campaign was boring, but if the economy had not recovered after 1982 IMO it's likely that Reagan would not have been re-elected.

Along with Dom DeLuise, the NCR commercial is a real who's who of character actors, like Jack Riley and Johnny Haymer. But I can't quite place the actress.

Do you know what the best part of all these commercials are, first the actors who are in them don't make an ass out of themselves like the ones on television today do and second is you don't hear the phrase DOT COM every few seconds like the worthless commercials that are on the tv and radio today.
