1980 was wonderful because it had that early 80s feel with a WHOLE lot of 70s still mixed in. The best of both worlds.

I always thought the Betty's Breakfast commercials were a bit much. Would you really go to a place called Betty's Breakfast and order Post Raisin Bran? And wouldn't Betty be insulted that of all the items on her menu, you chose cereal out of a box? Or were her eggs and pancakes just that bad?

I took the 80s for granted. The best music, movies and shows, especially the music. ‘Friday Night Videos’ & ‘Night Tracks Chartbusters’ on WTBS back in the mid eighties were the highlight of my weekend as a kid.

The guy in the first commercial, the Trac II ad, is George S. Irving. He was the voice of the Heat Miser in The Year Without A Santa Claus. He died in 2016.

For those curious, Marv Albert was the voice-over on the Bic commercial. Regarding Dwight Lauderdale's name, not only would he have been seemingly destined to be a Florida anchorman but specifically one working in Miami.

Yeah, I keep trying and trying to find some safer kinder interpretation of it. My best one is a meta analysis, and somehow the actor/director were convinced that it made sense to the audience that Sally was his son's girlfriend and the others were just friends and he wanted to get to know his possible future daughter-in-law. But they don't at all indicate that. In fact the son is sitting as far away from Sally as possible and is sitting next to the other girl so I think it was either bad scripting or bad direction. Sticking with that idea, what they forgot was for the mom to say he was coming by "with Sally and a few of his friends". Then it would make sense. Otherwise, all we are left with is a very awkward interaction with dad and Sally.

Today on Walmart's website, Bic razors are $4.30 for 24 pac. That is 17.91 cents each. Less than 1980's price. Thank your big corporation for moving manufacturing to China. They would cost 10x more if made in the U.S. Think your neighbors would be happy to pay that price? Would you be happy to pay it?
