@@ToyotaGuy1971 It's partially that, it's partially the non-economic values capitalism rewards in us, often the worst parts of our nature are reward (like greed); it encourages us to "work harder" at jobs most people seem to hate to make more so as to _consume_ MORE and MORE EXPENSIVE _things_ and wrap up our entire identities in what we own, believing that accumulation of material wealth is the only true evidence of "success" etc etc etc Our entire economic system is trash ... unless you're one of the 1% who benefits from owning everything, including the consumers (you're only as "free" in the U.S. as the choices they sell you) AND entire governments (so as to protect and advance their interests, with meager concessions to the workers)

I worked as a janitor downtown around '89 to '90 and was a fan of this movie. I would often try to figure out the filming locations. I think you did a terrific job. Me and a coworker would often talk about the film on our lunchbreak as we sat on our utility carts eating tacos by Olvera Street, and when we saw the uptight suits walking around, we'd put on our Hoffman shades and say, "They live!" Good times, low pay.

I watched this movie a couple of years ago, and I couldn't believe my eyes, a '80s low-budget movie showing some real life scary stuff, and it hit me like a train. I'm not a huge fan of terror/horror movies, but this movie became one of my favorites; I love the story, the music, the action, and even the goofy parts. Thanks for showing some of the movie's locations, love your work!

Subscribed. If I may make a few suggestions. 1) Use more pointers/arrows when making references. 2) Consider using freeze frames. 3) Consider placing some shots side by side so that we can compare the locations from the past with what they look like now. Overall, really fun to watch. Takes me back in time. Great job!

The “Reshoots” (Then And Now) Channel has been doing a horizontal split screen for the before and after shots and that makes seeing the changes really easy to focus on. I don’t know if that makes editing the footage really difficult - but check out their latests when you have a minute - it’s pretty cool.
@80sLife3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you for watching and subscribing. Ok, request for more pointers noted. I'm not a big fan of split screen though. Maybe I'll give it a try one day on a video with fewer locations. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.

Thanks for making this great video. It adds another dimension to the brilliant movie. As it says in the beginning movie credits, They Live is based on the short story "Eight O'Clock in the Morning" by Ray Nelson. The story is only six pages long, but it's worth reading. An internet search for the name, followed by "PDF" comes up with a few hits.

Awesome ... I love it!! I'm a huge fan of John Carpenter's movies, and the music he does for them is iconic as well. I met him a few years ago, and he's a super nice guy. If you go back, and watch the original Halloween movie, a lot of the towns he mentions, as well as the name of the mental health facility (Smith's Grove Sanitarium) that Michael escapes from, are towns close to Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Excellent video! I recall the tall building behind the shanty town. I believe it was on the SE corner of Beaudry and Temple. It was torn down several years ago to make room for more housing. Long before that building was built and even before the 10 and 110 interchange were constructed, there was a circular drive in that area that can be seen in pre-1950's aerial photos of the downtown area.
