To be honest, in such a small tunnel, the risk of asphyxiation is absolutely real! This can happen very easily and fast. My dad climbs into small tanks at work, and they have lots of very strict safety procedures they have to consider. They always take a device with them that measures O2,Co2, and CO. There always has to be someone outside in fresh air that can see them at all times to call for rescue if needed. And they wear safety harnesses so the fire brigade can pull them out in an emergency. Yes, I know that he has built his own ventilation system, but yet this feels a bit sketchy and quite risky to me. This breaks any safety guidelines that need to be followed in a professional environment! And they are there for a very good reason
