Spread butter with a spoon, not a knife. It won't tear the bred.

I use Aluminum, it works WAY better than Aluminium. ;)

Ironically it is the E22 bottom, tho around where I live (kansas) they're called the Edison base as that is who patented it. We also have the other one for smaller applications like automotive lighting.

Believe it or not we use E26 threads for our light bulbs... I guess because that's dang close to an inch? What the heck USA.

What's the risk of touching both of those contact rails at the same time, by hand? What current flow is there between them with an average knife with little electrical resistance? BTW - I am not an engineer... ;)

I think a better way of heating up a knife is to use induction heating, but it sounds like it was too complicated for Colin to use.

It might actually be a bit more reasonable in the US America, since their electricity only has half the voltage of the UK. That should make it heat the knives more slowly, rather than instantly heating it to butter-burning temperatures. Unless Emily is crazy enough to try connecting it two a two phase outlet for the full 240V. She is pretty much insane, but hopefully it's not that kind of crazy. EDIT: Never mind, I saw your comment on Emily's video. I'm glad she loved it, because it is pretty awesome!

Why you dont use a high frequency induction heating? You can put knife (of different dimensions) inside a coil and it go to red in few second.

1) The bayonet mount lightbulbs are B22. The screw mount is an E27. 2) In North America, E26 is known as the edison mount, and wikipedia says that the E26 and E27 are usually interchangeable.
