I miss having the model auto magazines.money's been a little rough this year.my 95 year old mother's bee in the nursing home twice.but she's coming back home.1st week in 2025.getting better.but I still take time out working on my model car's.

I like the Merc as a gasser. Altered wheelbase not so much. Awful long tail. I always thought the 49-51 Merc had an extra big but in the 1st place. I get AWB funny cars. I was around then built most of the AMT AWB Funny Cars when they 1st came out. Maybe use the Atlantis Skorpion 53 Studebaker? But that's probably still short on wheelbase as it's an AWB car too. Maybe 2 Skorpion chassis, or 2 AMT 67 Mercury Cyclone chassis, stitched together. Then you have the Ford SOHC engine already. Straight tube front axle. Nose in the air. Blown or injected engine. Big slicks. But more of a gasser than an AWB Funny Car. And HEY! Glen is famous for gassers. I love the Contest Cars issues. Have a pile of them. Last one I ordered, they never sent, though. Never got my $$ back either. Punks. The 1st race car I ever sat in was a belly tank. My dad's best friend, Tom Beatty. I was 2 years old. I have a video in my head of it though. At the model show at the NHRA Museum in 23, there was a guy named Tom Walsh Jr, who brought his 40 Ford Sedan Delivery built as Tom Beatty's blown Olds powered tow/push truck. About as famous as the belly tank race car and a Bonneville record holder in its own right. And his dad's incredible scratch built large scale model of Tom Beatty's belly tank. After sharing some stories and pictures with Mr. Walsh, he surprised the heck out of me by sending his Tom Beatty 40 Sedan delivery home with me! It sits at the top front of my display case now. Ther should DEFINITELY be a kit of Tom Beatty's belly tank. The only belly tank resin kit has a really fat body shape and generic chassis. AMT already has a kit of his 40 Sedan Delivery. It would be easy to make a race team kit.
